TO Report # 61 (2001-03-01)

This report was submitted by HA Astatine

Lots of staff changes recently. Out are Fondor (TIE Tactics) and Ian Jackson (PHP). Vice Admiral Ari will be retaining his position as VBScript Professor as part of a collaborative arrangement between the Training and Internet Offices. In are LC Ford (TIE Tactics), CM Predator (Rebellion Tactics) and CM Daisuke Airyu (Graphics). Their respective courses will be up soon. PHP, XWA Mission Design, RebED, RPG Character Design and RPG Stats are still open. Details are at http://www.imperialacademy.org/jobs/

The EH Ladder, after a lengthy term out of service, is now back up. It features XvT, XWA and JK divisions and is about as automated as it can be. It even sends out pretty confirmation emails when a match is reported. So far there are 26 people signed up.

Over the last week or so there's been a serious DNS problem relating to the imperialacademy.org domain. This has happened in the past and has gone away. However, this time it's becoming a real pain. For each domain, there is usually at least two name servers, machines that are considered the highest authority for that domain's details. It would seem that one of the nameservers isn't supposed to be a nameserver and it also thinks my domain doesn't exist. It's highly likely that this server (run by the #1 domain authority in Australia) is feeding incorrect DNS data to the rest of the world, resulting in the errors people outside Australia are getting. I've called the hosting company (who's nameserver *does* work) and they're looking into it. I'll check back with them on Monday to see what the situation is. Hopefully, once the false nameserver is out of the picture, the correct data will flow through and everything will work within 24 hours.

IWATS courses continue (or rather, did before the DNS problems) to increase the overall graduate count. At the moment, the mIRC/1 course is almost at 1,000, while IIC/1 is a mere 4 graduates away from 500. SM/2 recently passed 500, making it the 4th most popular course. My thanks to Guthwulf for marking the tests for so long, even when it's been difficult for him to do so. Overall, the total graduate count is sitting around 6680.

Because of the DNS problems with the imperialacademy.org domain, the IWATS Core course has been mirrored at http://iwats.emperorshammer.ca/core/ This will allow cadets to still read the notes and take the test. Thanks to FA AbsoluteK for providing the space on such short notice.
