Firstly, I'd like to apologise if I've been a bit delayed in answering any email this week, however I've had a few technical problems recently including a viral infections. While the virus has been cleaned (I think), there are some other more persistent problems & I'll be looking at going offline for a day or two in the near future so I can wipe this machine & reinstall. Thankyou for your patience.
Despite any problems its been a rather big week for releases from the Science Office, and so on with the news.
1. Patch Archive: The TIE Protector patches for XvT & XWA have been posted, feel free to try them out. They where temporarily delayed due to the addition of a new version of the install script which reduces the size of the patch for download (the XWA T/Prot is less than half the size of with the old install), and makes it even more compatible with other patches you may wish to install - including any shiplist.txt modifications.
These updates are made possible by a pair of small programs, a updated command line TIEPatch by CA:SCO/VA Den Darkhill & a textfile header/line echoing utility by myself. The source code to both of these has been made available in the SCO file archives. These updates to the install are 100% compatible with the previous version for installing/uninstalling and form the final conceivable update to the batch install format without moving to a dedicated program. The SSSD, MC-90, T/G, T/Pr & T/Dr patches for XWA will be updated with this install shortly, the XvT patches will be updated at latter date.
2. File Archive: A number of new files have been added to the archives this week, aside from the aforementioned source code.
(i) Custom Acts Tutorial - added to the instructional documents section, this is a brief tutorial by CPT Fenn Logan on how to put a custom planet (or other backdrop) in a XvT mission, as demonstrated in this months battlecry mission.
(ii) X-Wing 95 Pilot viewer module for UGE - added to the pilot utilities section, this is a small UGE module, by myself, set up to display historical mission scores, tour of duty scores & kills data for X-Wing 95 pilot files. It should provide the necessary information to complete a BSF for any IW-XW battle flown using X-Wing 95 (the pilot files for X-Wing 95 & X-Wing disk/CD are different and incompatible).
(iii) ZT Maker - added to the misc. essentials section, this is a clone of the patch maker from TIE Patch for windows updated for Windows 95 by CA:SCO Den Darkhill. Its slightly faster and fully 32 bit, supporting long filenames.
3. Fleet Manual: In the interested of disclosure and to alleviate certain repeated questions/suggestions, I've added another appendix containing a copy of the original proposal for the update project and a rough outline of the current status. It contains some rough completion estimates for phases of the project, and a rough breakdown of each phase. I'd like to stress though they are only a rough estimates and not definite figures.
Additionally, the image collection is proceeding well though hampered slightly by some computer problems. I'd like to again thank all who have and still are working on this :)
