Commodore HA Dempsey reporting
Report ID: H.AD.020
Report date: December 27th, 2020
Outside the mighty ISD-II Challenge, the attack on the Rithgar outpost had expanded into a full battle. With more fighters at their disposal than the intelligence reports had said, plus the additional cruisers showing up unexpectedly, Dempsey had given up on a nice simple victory. No more taking valuable cargo home. All that mattered now was survival with as few casualties as possible.
Well, as few casualties as possible on the imperial side of course. She couldn't concern herself with the enemy.
Fortunately, her Commanders had trained their pilots well, and the number of enemy fighters in space was rapidly going down. A handful of torpedoes had reached the Interdictor Fairchild before all the Y-wings had been intercepted, but the shields could take a few hits without causing too much problems. And with the freighters all burning, the Missile Boats of Tempest squadron had now turned their attention the the enemy cruisers. One of them was already showing severe damage, with the other now starting to move in on the Challenge itself. It's captain was becoming desperate, it seemed. There was no way his ship could win a firefight against an Imperial-II class Star Destroyer. No, there had to be something else.
'Signal Tempest to prioritize the Munificent she told her Wing Commander. 'I have a feeling we don't want it to get too close to us.'
Elara nodded and relayed the order. Not long after, clanking noises could be heard on the outer hull of the Star Destroyer. Dempsey looked at Elara. 'The cruiser had all its energy focused on their forward shields,' the woman explained. 'The aft was completely unprotected. A few torpedoes struck and then she turned into this huge fireball. There must have been a massive amount of explosived aboard. Good thing it was as far off as it was when it went up. We're already taking damage from hull fragments colliding with the Challenge.'
Dempsey nodded. A little hull damage wasn't a problem.
Half an hour later, the blast shields on the bridge were raised, and Dempsey could see again what was going on. In the distance, the enemy base was ablaze, burning through every last bit of oxygen it had. The fire wouldn't last long. She could see a lot of debris floating around.
'All fighters are accounted for, Admiral,' a voice came across the speaker. '48 were launched, 45 have returned. Three are confirmed destroyed by enemy fire.'
Dempsey nodded. All in all, a loss of three fighters was acceptable.
'Send out the search and rescue transports. If those three pilots are out there, I want them back aboard this ship.'
Dempsey knew the odds were slim. TIE Fighters didn't come with escape pods, or pressurized cockpits. If a TIE went down, the pilot went with it. It was the fate of an Imperial pilot. Still, their pressure suits and personal oxygen supply might allow them to survive for a while in the cold of space. But only for a little while.
Dempsey turned to the navigations officer. 'Start calculating the jump back to Pyrath,' she said. 'We jump in 30 minutes.'
The last report of the year. So that means I'm pretty much at the end of my official first 6 month Tour of Duty as your Commodore. But since I forgot to send in my resignation letter, I'm stuck here. Or you're stuck with me.
Then again, if I had wanted to send in that letter it would have helped had I written it. Which I didn't. Because I'm not resigning. We gotta have at least 1 ship here that didn't change Commodores in the last two months, do we....
That said, we all know the big news. FA Silvius has resigned as Commodore of the Warrior, to be replaced by Sin CMDR COL Zekk Terrik. We're also hoping the new Wardens will be announced shortly.
Of course as some will have noticed, the November MSE was completed. And just in time, as we only have a few more days until the December one is due. Some of the medals have been awarded, not all, so expect to see a few more coming in. So far, I've seen a lot of high tier medals coming in (eg: 4x Silver Star of the Empire, 8x Bronze Star of the Empire). Excellent job!
To finish up the year, I've decided to go nuts again, and I've set up a little competition for those of us who are struck by yet another lockdown, preventing big parties on New Year's Eve. Well, you won't need to be bored, as on December 31st, we will play Dempsey's Lascivious Lockdown Lunacy. This one is open to every TC member on active duty. See the competitions section below for details. I hope you enjoy, it took me long enough to get it set up properly. Thanks also to FA Plif for pointing out a small issue with the timed tests that would have really messed with my head. Fortunately it was an easy fix.
We had a few rank promotions aboard ship this week, as LT Turel of Firebird was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, and CM EvilGrin of Inferno was promoted to Captain. Good job!
Lastly, Eagle squadron is filling up nicely. It's numbers have pretty much doubled since last week, so that's a good start. It will be interesting to see Eagle's MSE next week....
Welcome to those who have joined its ranks! The first of the Sub-lieutenants has been promoted to Full lieutenant, let's see how long it takes the other 3...

Dempsey's Lascivious Lockdown Lunacy
Are you bored this December 31st because you can't go out and throw a huge party to celebrate New Year's? Then I have just what you need. A one-day crazy competition where you will be facing off against 50 images of 10 different subjects all mumbled randomly. The possibilities are endless. The medals are aplenty, as theoretically speaking, every single participant has the chance to win a medal in this one!
There's not one but TWO timed tests needed to make this competition. Go out there, get as many correct as you posssibly can and start your 2021 off with a nice shiny Iron Star for your collection!
Note that there's a few music videos in there - remember to get both title and artist for a full mark there!

Dempsey's Weekly Screenshots
Every week, the report will have a screenshot. Not necessarily from a Star Wars movie. First Challenge pilot to send the correct answer to the mailing list wins.
Each victory earns you an IS-BR. Unless it's a 5th victory, you then get a IS-SR. Unless it's a 10th victory, which gives you an IS-GR. A 25th victory will give you an IS-PR!
Remember - your answer has to go to the list.
