Fleet News
Not a whole lot of general interest has been going on in the fleet. There was a big XWA competition not too long ago. The BCR finally ended, with Wing IX taking the honors and Relentless being awarded the coveted position as Battlegroup Flagship. And even though the Naval Corps is closed, they still have listings on the Command Openings page. As always, check the TC News page (http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp) for the latest.

Wing News
By now everyone should be aware of the ‘charges’ leveled against our commander, as well as the results of the HCI hearing. The less said about this whole mess the better, but I think you’re all aware of my feelings about the whole thing. If anything, all this did was make Wing IX stronger in the face of adversity.

Squadron News
We’ve got competitions lined up with both elements of Infiltration Wing and Inferno Squadron of Wing X. We’ll be flying against the IW first, with the challenge of Inferno coming later. So get those joysticks warmed up and ready for action. Let’s show these boys what Spear Squadron’s made of! The IW competition should start by Wednesday, and I’ll be sending out the selected Free Mission at that time.

We also had some promotions. Drinks are on me! And congratulations to LCM Ironfist on his well-earned promotion. As for me, I was just lucky...

On the whole, I’m quite pleased with Spear’s performance over the past few weeks. We may not be doing tons of flying, but communication is much improved and we’re coming together as a unit. LCM Ironfist reports that he’s making good progress on the Spear website, and will let us know when it’s posted and ready for viewing. On a similar note, we have a message board off the main Relentless site (http://www.fightingninth.org). Some of you already know that and have posted there. I’d like to see us start using it a bit more. The famous (infamous?) Relentless run-on on is also located there, although on the main forum. There’s some interesting discussion going on there. Add to it.

Spear’s Standing Orders continue to make their way through the command hierarchy. They are now in the Flight Office, which should be their last stop. I’ll be glad when they finally get done and we can post them. It’ll let you see how I rate performance and what’s expected of Spear pilots.

With the return of COL Miackus (another bird colonel…;)), we’re back up to six pilots. That means we start getting citations again and all that other fun stuff.

Attached to this WSR is a little mission I’d like you to fly. Consider it a warm-up for the competitions, although the follow-up missions will be spaced during the competitions. You have until Wednesday to fly it (don’t worry…it’s not that long). This is something special, so pay attention to the briefing questions and the like. I’d also ask that you only fly it ONCE. That’s right – ONCE. Fly it and submit your .tfr file to me. This is the first mission of a Proficiency Test (P-Test), and is targeted to test your recon skills. Future missions are based on the results of the previous missions. A little something I worked up one night while watching hockey. If you can’t fly for any reason, let me know. This one’s not optional, guys.
