Koph Report # 40 (2001-06-06)

This report was submitted by LC Firebird

Pilots of Koph Squadron:

It's been a spectacular week for Koph Squadron, for quite a few
reasons. We've got competitions, new pilots, new citations, and all
kinds of great stuff going on this month. So, here we go...

First off, I want to welcome Captain Mauser back to Koph Squadron!
Mauser was for quite some time the Flight Leader of Flight 3 and
between he and Iceman, they kept me submitting BSFs like nobody's
business. Some things have changed since you left back in January,
Mauser, but I think you'll find that the good things are still the way
you left 'em.

We have adopted squadron ID lines, and I have added just a couple
things to yours retroactively. Check the Koph web site to see what
they mean, although I'm sure you can guess :)

Your new squadron ID line is:
Captain Mauser - WC0x2/XIV/KAx3

Now for the serious business. We have this little competition with
Shin Squadron starting on the 8th. If it gets cleared by HA Astatine,
the highest overall scorer wins an IS-BW (think you can outfly Iceman?
Well? Do ya?) and the losing squadron must change their squadron
banner to a banner of the winning squadron's choice for a month. You
all know about the banner I think suits Shin
(http://apn.dhs.org/koph/shin_banner.gif), but it's up to you to make
sure it happens.

Secondly, LC Ford of Psi Squadron in Wing II has announced the first
annual Psi Squadron Invitational Tournament. Being the best comes with
perks, obviously, so Koph has been invited to participate. As quoted
from Ford's email:

"All ten squadrons are divided into three pools, each with four
squadrons in a pool. A short (preferably 4-mission battle) will be
assigned for the first round of competition. Each pool will fly the
same battle, and after a 10-day period, the winners will be announced.
The top squadron in each pool will automatically advance to the next
round, as well as the overall top two scoring squadrons who did not
finish first in their pool, leaving five total squadrons the
survivors. In the next round, a Free-TIE will be played, with each
squadron being given a week to fly it. The three squadrons with the
highest score in that round will advance to the championship round,
where a longer (probably six mission-long) battle will be issued, with
ten days to fly it. The top-scoring squadron from the final round is
then proclaimed the winner, with appropriate bragging rights issued.
Additionally, the aggregate top-scoring pilot from each of the final
three squadrons will receive an Iron Star - Silver Wings.

"Scoring will be measured by a highest total laserless scoring method.
Though averages are a popular method in multiple squadron comps, Ford
feels that a simple highest total method encourages participation, so
that members of each squadron who aren't quite as good as their
comrades don't worry about pulling the squadron's average down, and
are free to participate and chip in as their skills allow."

I have no doubt in my mind that Koph can win a competition such as
this one, but in any event we have to at least beat Psi in the
tournament. Anything less is unacceptable :)

Did I mention something about citations at the top of this report? I
believe I did... have a look at what CPT Mauser did for us simply by
rejoining the squadron:

Squadron Citations (12):
TC-TIE Battle 1 - Capture of Zaarin
TC-TIE Battle 3 - New Dimensions
TC-TIE Battle 6 - Destruction
TC-TIE Battle 7 - Betrayal
TC-TIE Battle 9 - Tracking the Defectors
TC-TIE Battle 10 - Battle for the DeathStar
TC-TIE Battle 24 - Save the Emperors DNA
TC-TIE Battle 26 - The Dark Troopers
TC-TIE Battle 32 - Assassinate the Fleet Commander?
TC-TIE Battle 48 - "Ski Hoth" - Star Wars Mercenaries
TC-TIE Battle 123 - Strengthen the Emperor's Hammer
TC-TIE Battle 156 - EH Wrestling Extravaganza

12 citations is fantastic, and far better than 8, but do you think we
could boost that number a but farther? I think we can...

So, there is no lack of things to be doing. If you're bored, send me
an email or find me on IRC on the Undernet in the channel #WingVI and
I will be more than happy to give you something to do >:)

Finally this week, the Koph Ace of the Week goes to CPT Mauser, as it is
Koph's long standing tradition to give the Koph Ace to the new pilot
on his first week in the squadron. Welcome back!

Your new Squadron ID line is:
Captain Mauser - WCOx2/XIV/KAx4
