Fleet News
Lots has been happening in the Fleet this week. It was announced that the Naval Corps will be shutting down, and its pilots folded into the XWA wings in the TIE Corps. This comes on the heels of the announcement that the entire database is being re-coded. The FCHG ratings and other things won’t be available until this is done. Wing News
Let’s see… Wing IX was named the TCCOM’s Own for February, and if we keep going at this pace we might have a shot at getting it for March as well. In an outpouring of gratitude, or too many Blowjobs at the Stardrifter, GN Ricaud declared that the entire Wing would be considered the Commander’s Own (squadrons, commanders, pilots, latrine orderlies, floor scrubbers, etc., etc.) for February as well. And there was much rejoicing…. Over in Dagger, word came that one of their pilots was involved in a car accident. Our best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery go out to DeBastide, who in a frenzy of duty-bound valor still managed to get his graphics submission in. That’s Wing IX dedication for you!

The big news is that we (the Wing) had a 100% participation rate for Phase I. If we can do that for Phase II, we’ll make the other ships in the BG wet their collective pants, as well as take a commanding lead. My sources tell me that the Challenge is losing a bit of its confidence in light of Phase I. But the fight’s not over yet.

Squadron News
Both of our Flight Leaders were decorated for their outstanding work since taking over the job. LT Ironfist is working on a web site for the squadron. LT Owen continues his valiant crusade against the evil auto-mailer that has taken up refuge in the wall of the Stardrifter Lounge. And we had a stealthy addition to the roster around the middle of the week. Although I have yet to hear from the Flight Office about it, CAPT Qunitus appears to be our newest Spear member. Meaning that we have seven pilots. Welcome aboard!

So far I’ve only got three submissions for Phase II – mine, LT Owen's, and LCM CajunBoy’s. That’s not good, people. LT Ironfist, I think I might submit your web page draft for Flight II (or the squadron) as yours, since it’s an original graphic. So don’t send anything unless you really want to. That leaves CM Darkfire and LT Pirat. I don’t think they’ll require Quintus to participate, but if you’re who I think you are, PLEASE feel free to submit a graphic.

Also, I will be out of town starting later today and not getting back until sometime Sunday afternoon. I’ll let you all know (via the SpearSquad list) who will be the acting CO and where your late submissions can be sent. In case you missed that message, send them to GN Ricaud and make sure to cc me.

Has anyone flown TC152? I know some of you were working on it, but the next Phase is flying. Let’s see if we can’t get a bit warmed up before that.

Miscellaneous
Not much else to say this time out. Just some words of wisdom for dealing with the auto-mailer: “This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence.” – Vyvyan (my token Young Ones reference)

Some of us in Wing IX have started participating in the EH Directorate’s Conquest game. It’s an interesting diversion, and worth taking a look at if you’ve wanted to try your hand at being a governor. There’s talk of putting together an alliance there of Wing IX members. It was proposed on the SpearSquad mailing list that we set up some kind of squadron Writers’ Group. Let me know what you think. Most of us write, and finding people who can honestly evaluate your work is damned hard.

And it was my wedding anniversary two days ago. Seven years and we still haven’t mangled each other. I think that’s something of a record in the U.S. these days.
