Fleet News
Not a whole lot has been going on in the fleet. The XO continues working on the new database. And even though the Naval Corps is closed, they still have listings on the Command Openings page. As always, check the TC News page (http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp) for the latest.

Wing News
In spite of some nasty rumors that appear to be circulating, Wing IX continues to kick serious tail in BCR III. Everyone is busily flying FT100, with the last day being the 31st. After that, it’s all over but the shouting and the whining of those wings who didn’t win.

Our commodore continues to be sidelined with computer troubles, leaving the tyrant…I mean enlightened overlord…General Ricaud in de facto command of the wing. Always by his side is the trusty General Steve, ready to bash heads in his own loveable eccentric brand of justice.

Squadron News
Things are looking good for Phase 3 of the BCR. Every pilot has either flown the mission or checked in with an explanation. Not bad at all, people. And I hope you join me in saluting LT Owen, who tried manfully to complete the mission in spite of a bad joystick.

Aside from BCR news, the biggest announcement is the creation of the Spear Squadron Writers’ Guild. Most of you are signed up for this new mailing list, and if you’re not (and would like to be) let me know. I’m sending out information about the first discussion topic today, so look for that soon. There’s a good market for fan fiction in the Emperor’s Hammer newsletter, so let’s see if we can hone our writing skills.

Our squadron standing orders are almost ready to be published. They await the approval of the Battlegroup Commander, and then go to the Flight Office for final approval. They will (hopefully) be approved at about the same time LT Ironfist gets the Spear web page up and running.

LT Pirat has joined CM Darkfire in the Reserves, although for different reasons. Join me in wishing him well, and hoping that he’ll be able to return to Spear soon. We are now down to five pilots, about the average strength in the rest of the wing. This puts a premium on recruiting. We can’t spam the Daedalus roster (so DON’T even think about it!), but I know some of you have prospects that you’ve talked to on IRC or whatever. See what you can do to get them to join the Corps and request Spear for their postings.

“There’s a horrible farty smell in here, and it’s bloody not from my bottom!” Rick (with a silent ‘P’) in my token Young Ones reference for the week. Perhaps he wandered into the Stardrifter Lounge on ‘Baked Beans and Brews’ night, a new invention by our gallant doctor in his daring attempt to raise our morale (or kill us all).

With Darkfire’s transfer to the Reserves, we have an opening for a Flight 3 leader. If you’re a Lieutenant or above (which is the entire squadron) and can maintain a reasonable level of activity, e-mail me if you’re interested in the position. Flight 3 deserves an active leader to follow in the big footsteps of CM Darkfire.

Be warned! We’re going to be having a competition with Inferno Squadron over in Wing X after the BCR ends. Let me know what your flight status is, so that I can get the fine details worked out. The mission is still being discussed, but it will definitely be a Free Battle (one of the TCs) and not a Free Mission.
