Tornado Squadron Briefing - 4th July 1999

Okay I know my promotion may not be official yet, but I might not be able to
send the briefing tommorow, so I sent it tonight.

Well, once again I'm in the saddle of one of the best squadrons in the fleet,
and I've got to say it's good to be back :)

Fleet News
- As you all know, COL Kessler has left to become the new BGCOM, and has been
promoted to VA. Congratulations Kessler, we'll miss you.
- The Star Wars: Episode I trailers, teasers and various other videos are now
all available from http://www.starwars.com/episode-i/news/trailer/video.html.
For those of you that have seen the film though, there's not a lot of point :P
- Thrawn (previously Hammer's Fist Prefect) has been appointed as the new ExO of
the Corporate Division, after AD Obiwan was removed from the position.
- The TO Comp is still on going; the Wing X Design Team has come up with a plot,
courtesy of LT Andronicus, of Typhoon Squadron.
- The Logistics and Recon Office have created the EH Codex
(http://members.xoom.com/EHCodex/), which is basically a resource almanac
concerning the Emperor's Hammer. It will take around 5-6 months to complete, and
the EH Timeline has already been created.
- XWA Melee nights have proved very popular already, and take place on
Microsoft's Gaming Service, the Zone. Note: to play, you must have the XWA 2.0
patch (ftp://ftp.lucasarts.com/patches/pc/xwaupd202.exe). For more information,
visit the Combat Operations Office; http://aycantor.webprovider.com/coo/.

Wing News
- Our WC, LC Striker, has been promoted to COL, thanks to the newly appointed
BGCOM, VA Kessler! Congratulations Striker, you earned it!
- As you know, the flagship of the BGCOM is the ISD Colossus, but VA Kessler has
expressed the intention for a Battle Group competition, to decide which ship
should be his flagship. Let's make Kess proud, and get him back on the
Challenge!
- The Challenge mailing list should only be used by authorised people (COM, WC,
CMDRs) and all messages are reviewed then approved by the moderators (VA
Kessler, RA Torres, COL Striker, or CPT Corran Force).
- Pilot of the month went to LT Jennifer of Typhoon squadron, CMDR of the month
to CPT Corran Force, and Wing Commander's own to Typhoon. Let's see if we can
win back WCO for next month guys ;)
- COL Striker will be on leave from July 18th to August 16th, and for that
period, a Temp-WC needs to be selected (probably one of the CMDRs).

Squadron News
- VA Kessler gave us some good bye presents from our MSEs...congratulations to
CM Badlands and LCM Jofus, you both deserved those promotions! Myself and LCM
Veers also got a Palpatine Crescent, and CM Rea got an Imperial Security Medal!
Thanks Kess!
- We're now down to 10 pilots again, so we all have to work extra hard during
the play-offs...Niksa, if you have the time your return would be most
appreciated! :P
- From Monday to Saturday next week I'll be on leave in North Wales doing my
practice Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award (50 miles of walking and camping :P), so
I'll need someone to be a temp-CMDR for those 6 days. CM Steele, I'd like you to
take charge; you'll need to forward emails and files from the COM/WC to the
squadron, notify the squad of any important news, and send in any TFRs to the
WC. If for some reason you can't take the position, then CM Badlands can handle
the squad (Good practice if you want to be a CMDR yourself some day ;) ).
- TIE Corps Personal Profiles; as far as I know the profiles are up to date,
however I wish you all to check the profiles, and tell me of any inaccuracies;
http://www.tiecorps.org/main.asp
- Okay, now just a few changes that I wish to make to how we do things in the
squadron:

Squadron Positions
The Squadron Operations Officer and Squadron Tactical Officer positions were
originally created by (then) Major Striker, and even though HA Kawolski has
expressed a distaste for these positions, I wish keep the SOO position, as it
takes some of the weight off the CMDR. However, I think that the STO position is
pretty much redundant these days, and I am now dissolving the position. CM
Steele; it's nothing personal, but the STO serves no real function any more.

Submissions
Flight Members : Be it a TFR, artwork, or fiction, it goes to me, and should be
cc-ed to your Flight Leader. If it is artwork or fiction then it should also be
cc-ed to LCM Veers .
Flight Leaders : Again, send everything to me, and cc artwork and fiction to
Veers.

Tornado Report
There will be a Tornado report every Sunday. Flight Leaders should give me an
activity report of their flight by Saturday. This shows me that you are paying
attention to your FMs, and helps me with the report.

Tornado Website
The Tornado website is now up at http://fly.to/tornado
If for some reason the URL redirect doesn't work, then you can go directly to
the site through http://www.drsc.freeserve.co.uk/tornado/
Thanks go to VA Kessler (for Tornado Logo and Link Banner), LT Val Ricaud (for
Tornado Banner) and COL Striker (for Archives page design). Please report any
inaccuracies or problems to me.

Competitions

Squadron League - CR #12
Here are the top ten individual results for Combat Run 12 (with my correct
score):

1TYP/CPT Vader329.969
2TYP/LT Jennifer284.200
3TOR/CM Rea243.181
4INF/CM Nightwolf241.158
5TYP/LCM Brandon240.246
6TYP/MAJ Callista238.669
7TOR/CM Steele225.072
8TEM/LCM Vermin205.089
9TOR/CM Corran Horn197.402
10TYP/LCM Nazghul192.839

So now, the top Wing X squadrons look like this:

1. Tornado Squadron - 19.469.790 (90 entries)
2. Typhoon Squadron - 18.355.644 (74 entries)
3. Thunder Squadron - 7.688.774 (50 entries)
4. Inferno Squadron - 6.169.649 (31 entries)
5. Tempest Squadron - 3.738.937 (20 entries)
6. Cyclone Squadron - 1.936.943 (7 entries)

Over the past 12 Combat Runs, Tornado squadron has performed admirably, and if
we put the same effort into the Playoffs we are sure to do well. Everything we
have done will be for nothing if we do not try our very best over the coming
weeks, so focus all attention on the Playoff battles. If you have very little
time to fly the battle, then just play it on invincible mode, as every point
counts ;) . I'm going to hold off starting any more squad competitions until the
playoffs have finished now. Here's the fixtures for the play-offs:

Quarter Finals : July 4th - July 15th
Semi-Finals : July 16th - July 30th
Finals : August 1st - August 8th

The battles have yet to be announced.

June Tornado Competition
The competition has now ended, and results are as follows:

Wing X vs Wing I Competition
This should begin some time in July...

Wing X Battle Run
Once the SL and Wing X vs Wing I comp is over, the battle run will begun.
Battles will be played in numerical order (e.g. - TC Battles 1,2,3,4,5).

Training Office Competition #1
New members to the Wing X design team are always welcome, also XWA pilots will
be needed for playtesting...
