Tartarus Squadron Report #1 - 12.13.02

In recent times, it has become apparent that many movies, books, etc. are often relying on past ideas rather than new ones, hence, our only recourse is, this week's...

Pilot's Lounge

"Any idea who've they've gotten?" Woobee said, glancing over at DarkC.
"No clue, they've probably sent down some nimrod..."
Suddenly, a sound came from behind the Tartarus Lounge door that indicated someone was intending to enter the room.
"Everyone at attention!" MAJ DarkC called out.
The door opened to reveal reveal a male figure standing in its frame.
Several gasps emerged from the Squadron which could not be surpressed.
"But, but, I thought you were..." one officer started to say.
"... Retired," Colonel Khadgar finished.
"Yes," the officer concluded.
"Well, the Frigate Phoenix is running rather low on beverage supplies, so I'm back here for the time being." Khadgar said.
"I have some new officers I'd like to introduce this week into the Tartarus Lounge." Khadgar continued, "This is Lieutenant Commander Beta."
"Hey, wait a minute..." one officer started.
"Erm, no comments, please!" Khadgar said quickly.
"Lieutenant Commander Beta is an android, he can calculate Pi to a hundred digits in less than a second." Khadgar said, smiling.
"How does that help us?" Woobee said.
"Well," Khadgar started, "All right, never mind. You people can meet the other officers in the cantina. Drinks are on me!"
The officers all went into the cantina, and saw several new faces in the cantina.
Woobee saw someone standing close to the bar sipping on a drink.
"I'm Woobee, who might you be?"
"The name is Kond, Thames Kond."
Across the cantina, other pilots met similar situations.
Leslaw saw a rather young sort of pilot sitting down at a table.
"Are you new around here?"
"I'm the new Squadron Hero, Fluke Skyduster."
"Hey... Wait, that sounds like..."
"Got to go!" Fluke said, quickly leaving the cantina.
"Has anyone else noticed this week that..."

The editor of this Report would like to apologize for the above fiction. Clearly, the original promise of unique ideas was not acted upon in the writing. Those responsible have been sacked. And now, this week's featured item...

Letters from the Cardinal...

Yes, I am back! You didn't think you could really get rid of the Cardinal, did you? Henceforth, I will be supplying my insights weekly in this part of the Report.

This week, I've noticed the increasing popularity of games such as "Counter-Strike", which are based on team-based tactics. Clearly though, many players do not know what they are doing, and often do not succeed. Therefore, in this week's Report, we will explore...

Strategies for Team-Based Shooter Games

1. Lie in wait near a friendly player, and as he is about to eliminate someone, pop out and steal the credit.
2. If you are on a map where you must guard objectives, never guard them. You must always race into the enemy base to attempt to catch enemy players from behind, or kill idle players.
3. Don't communicate with your team unless you want someone to boost you into a great spot or you want to exploit a bug in the map which requires more than one player.
4. Always complain and grumble when you die. Sound as if you wonder why people could ever take down YOU. 5. There is no strategy five.
6. Hide in obsecure locations away from your team to maximize your effectiveness.
7. Only play a select few maps, and specialize in them. If the server plays other maps, grumble and complain.
8. When people grumble and complain about you, dismiss them as a "newbie".
9. Always sneak around, even when you're around your own base.
10. Join the team with the best players, or whichever one is winning.
11. Don't expect to read silly strategy guides like this and improve your playing.

That's all this week.

Squadron Commander's Office

This is the part of the Report each week where I write my comments about Tartarus for the week. The first and most critical item is obviously the "Please E-Mail me" notes in the Activity Reports. If you are active, please send a mail off.

This week was admittedly rather slow for Tartarus. I think next week will show more activity, given that some of our regular active members have plans to continue their usual activity in the coming weeks. If you're reading this and looking for direction, my suggestions are as follows. Hone your Single Player and Multiplayer skills. Work on completing any Single Player mission that is based off of XvT, and try to attend Multiplayer events. I know that I wasn't at any this week, but I certainly attend to get in a lot this month, especially when the Christmas break hits on the 20th.

I'm planning to run some competitions once a new Training Officer has been selected, but there is always Wing-wide Competitions and soon a Battlegroup-wide Competition coming. With the holidays coming, I intend to be more active, as I've mentioned. If any of you will be on leave for the holidays, please be sure to contact me. That's all this week from me, Tartarus!
