Promotion Story XXXVIII: By Major Stuart (Ideas contributed by CPT Alexi Stukov)

Sub-lieutenant Ice flicked his tongue out to taste the air on the desolate snow covered wonderland Thunder had somehow ended up on. He was feeling a little sluggish from the cold - you see, he is reptilian and as such is cold blooded. The rest of the Thunderinians had sent him off on a scouting mission while they waited by a nice cozy fire.

”Geeze,” Ice thought to himself, “I sure could use a nap.” The bland white landscape started to blur together. “Stuart,” he said on his comlink, “I haven’t found anything.”

”Good, I had hoped there wasn’t any danger.” Stuart responded. “How are you doing?”

All Stuart heard on the comlink was Ice snoring. He giggled softly to himself and sent Alexi over to start whispering subliminal messages to a hibernating Ice.

Ice woke up in an ice cave. The walls gleamed and reflected his image, it almost looked like a grouping of his fellow Reavers on his home planet of R`sver. Worried about the location of his squadron, and the sudden new surroundings he started a frantic search. After running into a few clear sheets of ice that covered hallways the rather bruised Ice fell backwards down a set of stairs that suddenly appeared.

When he looked up the stairs were gone, however, through one glassy wall he could see his fellow Thunderinians, idly chatting. The other walls all reflected a strange square. It had two red squares and two blue squares. It was a Lieutenant badge!! He ran towards the center of the room where an ice pedestal held a shiny, new, freshly cleaned (after being used as a waffle iron) square of rank he desired so!

He picked it up and made sure he didn’t poke himself when he pinned it to his modified uniform. Now, to get out of here.

Ice ran up to the clear glassy wall that seemed to house the escape to his squadron and started frantically banging on it. No one on the other side seemed to notice, and they were starting to pack up. Panicking, Ice started frantically picking at the wall with his sub-lieutenant badge. He had to break through!! A crack started to form. Eureka!

The crack got bigger. And bigger. Just as Ice thought he was about to break through, the crack started moving up the wall and into the ceiling of jagged ice! Ice didn’t notice and continued to frantically dig at the wall separating him from his precious squadron. A loud CRACK prompted him to look up, just in time to see the entire place fall in on him.

Ice bolted up in bed and hit his head on Ryuu’s bunk. He fell back onto his pillow dazed and smiled when he saw a shiny new Lieutenant badge flying through the air at him.
