"The quiet hum of the holoprojector whirled to life, casting an azure glow over the speaking Squadron Commander. 'Greetings pilots. Look lively. Now, onto the briefing...'"

Squadron News

As usual, I hope everyone has had a decent week. Overall, this week, we did very well, especially in what was for the most part a fairly slow week for most of us, I think. Our activity in the Sovereign SP Ladder is still very strong, and again, I commend those who were able to stay strong and active in the competition. Such activity shall be remembered and rewarded. In other matters, we just got a new message board, and there's a link to it below. Let's make full use of it. As CMDR, I apologize for not having entered a submission and for only having flown four battles this week. Joystick calibration problems were rampant for me in the past few days as my joystick begins its last days, but still, I promised to lead from the front, and I will do my best to do so. In the meantime, we're doing good. We're rebuilding our squadron mission by mission, point by point.

Of particular note this week is the work of LCM J'Lek Arcanos. Not only was he active in the Sovereign SP Ladder and in giving suggestions to his CMDR, he also managed to score our first squadron high score. This is a milestone for us, and I have to commend him on such work. Great work, J'Lek.

Additionally, and worth noting in its own stead, Arcanos took it upon himself to contact large selections of recruits for help and guidance. Again, I have to commend him on his work. Finally, this week, the results of the two Wing I competitions were released, and we've taken both with first place, both going to myself. Good work to all who participated in our first major wins, especially Hunter. The medals have not been awarded yet because the OPS just resigned, but that should be taken care of soon.

As with last week, there are no duty roster changes this week. Now that we've leveled out, we have only to make our way upwards. With the efforts of several pilots, notably Arcanos and Q'jira, I have no doubt we will do so.

Finally, there have been a few fairly big updates to Beta Echelon this week. Three works of fiction, "Operation Bloodbath," "Operation Suicide Run," and "A Chance Encounter," all by CM Conker Blackwood, have been added to the Squadron Writings section. Good work, Conker. Work progresses on the History / Canon section after the completion of our first honor, the Order of the Stoic Yak. By the next report, I hope to have at least one more section up and formatted. Additionally, the meeting logs will soon be posted in the quote section, along with several IRC logs that I have found slightly amusing.

    From MAJ Brin Chaser's Announcement:

Following the success of the Torus Trooper Competition (ID 1776) the Wing Commander has augmented the simulators with a new piece of software. The pilots think it's a bowling simulator. To the Wing Commander, it's the perfect way to access pilot accuracy and control. Pilots need to send a screenshot of their results to the Wing Commander to be considered for the reward, as this is a pilot evaluation exercise.

Weekly Activity

As with last week, I'd like to suggest that we fly missions directed towards the Sovereign SP Ladder. Of course, just like last week, they're not out yet, but I'll get them out to you over the Message Board and the website as soon as they are.

Otherwise, have a good week. That's not a recommendation. That's an order. :)

Communications

From the thread, "Beta Squadron Requests a Message Board" (@ http://mb.emperorshammer.net/viewtopic.php?t=69)...

Jansj (Posted: Sun Mar 13, 2005 3:40 pm)
We of Beta Squadron, of Wing I stationed aboard the SSSD Sovereign, humbly request a message board.
Spammers will, of course, contemplate their infractions upon the tree of woe.

Sgeers/VA Stuart (Posted: Sun Mar 13, 2005 5:15 pm)
o.O

you sir... are intolerant... or dutch ;)

Jansj (Posted: Sun Mar 13, 2005 7:50 pm)
I have, from time to time, encountered this complaint before, not only from upper management but also from pilots who believed they were being... treated unfairly.

While I can neither confirm nor deny claims of Dutch ancestry, I would urge these individuals to consider the fact that such a solution is actual quite lenient in comparison to our former version of spammer rehabilitation, the wheel of pain. ;) :P

Frodo (Posted: Sun Mar 13, 2005 9:36 pm)
I like this guy, deliciously evil...

Joey C (Posted: Mon Mar 14, 2005 4:48 am)
Don't encourage them, CAT. :P

Bad Pun of the Week

There are two guys who have been lost in the desert for weeks, and they're at death's door. As they stumble on, hoping for salvation in the form of an oasis or something similar, they suddenly spy, through the heat haze, a small tree off in the distance.

As they get closer, they can see that the tree is draped with rasher upon rasher of bacon. There's smoked bacon, crispy bacon, life-giving juicy nearly-raw bacon, all sorts. And the smell... oh, the glorious smell!

"Look Pepe," says the first man. "It's a bacon tree!"

"You're right!" says Pepe, "We're saved!"

Pepe doesn't wait another second. He runs up to the tree, salivating at the prospect of food. But just as he gets to within five feet of the tree, there's the sound of machine gun fire, and he is shot down in a hail of bullets. His friend quickly drops down on the sand, and calls across to the dying Pepe.

"Pepe!! Pepe!! What on earth happened?"

And with his dying breath Pepe calls back: "Ugh, run, run!! It's not a Bacon Tree after all..."

"...its a ham bush!"

The Last Word

This week has been a bit quieter than the last, which is to be expected after such a whirlwhind time of activity. Hopefully, however, this week will have given us the rest we need to take things to the Sovereign and beyond in the coming times. With so much on our plate, we've really done well so far, and everybody in the squadron has put something in, I think. I look to the coming days with anticipation and curiosity.

For this week, however, it's your commander signing out.

"I staggered, wounded, blind, in the shadow of intimidation..."

In sincerity,
Serin "Yakman" Jansj
