Hey Report # 48 (2003-01-18)

This report was submitted by LC Josh Popelka

Hey Squadron Report for January 11th through 18th 2003.

Hey Hey! We've got some news to cover, so let's do it!

SQUADRON NEWS
-------------

Give a big a Hey Squadron welcome to SL Mirax Klivian. She comes to us fresh from Daedalus. You know, it's been quite a while since we've had a lady in the squadron. I guess I'll have to start acting like and officer and a gentleman again, won't I? No more hootin' and hollerin' at female pilots, deck crew, Sov personnel...*sniff*

LT Derek Klivian was awarded a MoI for assisting SL Mirax Klivian.

Our competition with Praetorian will be starting on the 5th of February and run until the 12th. I'll let you know what battle to fly on the 4th.

Work on the squadron website continues. LT Doctor Evil has submitted an idea for the site, I'll pass it on to the rest of you shortly.

Don't forget, the Hey Squadron Top Ace Competition is running. I only have one submission so far! With an IS-BW up for grabs, there should be a lot more! You have until the 31st to get your pilot files for XWA-IW #32 to me. Don't forget to zip them, please.

Operation Outraugeous Fortune
Opening: 19th of Jan
Operation Outrageous Fortune
A Sovereign Wargame, rules by WO/AD Pel, with help from CPT Mage, MAJ Argon, LC Freelancer, AD Proton
(Rules courtesy of the War Office site)

The game will be played by two teams, on a 9x9 hex grid (here ). Basic wargame rules (as outlined in the War Manual) are in effect. Each team will have one TFA (Task Force Admiral) and as many Captains as needed, keeping in mind that many game platforms will be used.

Fleets will build their own fleets. 40K will be given to each fleet in XWA points.....ships will be those on the list, AI will be limited to veteran only, and only torpedoes will be allowed for warheads. Warheads must be in full ship loads only.

The game will last 30 turns, or until one team captures 8 of the ten planets. In the event of the game ending on a time limit (the most likely result) then the remaining XWA points of each fleet, plus the XWA points on hand will be added up, and combined with bonus points from the SWGB and JK games. (see below)

Space battles will be fought with XWA, and casualties will be removed as usual. XvT and TIE battles will also be fought. When a battle is announced, a random Free XvT and Free TIE will be assigned. All those on both sides may fly it while the XWA battle is being prepared. The missions would be due back on the day of the actual XWA battle. Each pilots score will be computed as an average of the High Score for that mission, and each team will receive that many XWA points, to be used as the TFA wishes, to either repair lost ships from the battle, negate enemy repairs, or simply to create new ships. (for example, 10 ppl on Team one complete the missions, with scores of 33, 50, 50, 33, 33, 25, 25, 25, 25, 0 percentage. Total is 299 points that Team one gets, he can designate them to "save" a ship, to be used to void enemy saves, or to buy a new ship......the decision to void enemy saves is made WITHOUT him knowing if there even are any, and the points are lost regardless...... This system will allow a heavy TIE showing to really build up the points......up to one hundred XWA points per person, or almost a new fighter for everyone who flys.......if the scores run in the 80-100% range.

If a space battle occurs over a planet, and the attacker wins, the defender stops gaining resource points from it. If the Attacker has any Transport ships he may launch a SWGB invasion. Each planet will have 1-3 continents (determined randomly ahead of time) and each continent will have a "standard garrison" consisting of 4 Heavy Troopers, 2 Mounted Troopers, 1 Repeater Trooper. Each Cap ship in an invading fleet (Frigate/VSD/CRL) would have one "standard assault element" consisting of 3 Troopers and One Mech. The attacker may attack as many continents as he has transports and forces to attack. In the event of a succesful continental invasion, that continent will no longer provide resources to any owner, if an invasion is repulsed, and the blockading fleet removed without actually losing a continent (which can occur in SWGB OR JK2) then the continent will again provide resources proportionate to it's total of the planet (ie 1 contintent left of three will give only a third the resources the planet used to have.) The SWGB game will be played after the XWA skirmish (either immediatly after, or as soon as possible). Fleet game-time will not stop for the SWGB fighting, so any ships involved in the ground fighting (the transports (one per SAE) and Cap ships (one per SAE) would have to stay in orbit for as long as the attacker wishes to attack. Each transport may be re-used immediatly (if for instance there are two continents on a planet, and the attacker has four cap ships, but only two transports, he may attack one continent the first day, using his two transports, and then assuming he still controlled the space above the planet after the ground battle was done, he could re-use the tranports to attack the second continent with his remaining two transports) For each continental battle, the SWGB winner would gain victory points, that would be directly added to their score for purposes of finding a winner of the game. If the attacker wins, he would get 60 points, divided by the number of SAEs he used to make the assault (for a range of 60 (for one SAE) to 10 (for 6 SAE). If the defender wins, he would get the number of points the attacker would have gotten, subtracted from 80 (ranging from 70 (for 6 SAEs) to 20 (for one SAE)). If no assault is made, then no points are awarded. Both sides can also engage in "guerrilla warfare" during a ground assault. This would occur after an SWGB battle, and does not require space support. Any continental battle that is lost can be assumed to still contain some forces left over from both sides, these forces may fight it out in JK2 for additional victory points. (40 minute CTF game, guns no force 2v2 or more if the connection can support it. At the end of the time, the team with the most victories will get ten points for victory they have more than the other side).

All cap ships will start the game with a full SAE, after that, if they want to replenish thier troops, they will have to go to any planet controlled by their team, and replenish. There is no cost associated with this, just the time involved to return to a planet.

Graphic to be made!
AD Proton is looking for a volunteer to do an award graphic / plaque / cup /
medallion / whatever for display by personnel of the winning side of the
upcoming Operation Outrageous Fortune wargame aboard the Sovereign.

Info for the designer: The wargame includes fighting in TIE, XWA, XvT,
JK2 and SWGB, so elements of fighter, capital ship, ground force and
hand-to-hand combat may be depicted if desired. Of course, the name of
the op, Operation Outrageous Fortune, should be included, with the
optional subtitle of SSSD Sovereign Comp to End All Comps.

Thanks, and direct any inquiries to AD Proton!

Heh, didn't expect that, didja? :)

Reporting of Violations
18:44 - FA Brad [bafordham@earthlink.net]
Remember to use the chain of command first when reporting complaints. Almost 2/3 of the time complaints are better handled by your superior officers. They can get them resolved faster since I have a large number of complaints and each of mine needs thorough investigations as I send people to the High Court of Inquisitors if I find them suspect. Also, do not send an entire log file of the channel. Including some of the log before incidents happened helps, but I do not need to see logs of several months before (or after) a violation.

Skipping missions!
07:35 - AD Marcin Szydlowski [pbmike@go2.pl]
Recently, I've noticed that many pilots are skipping missions and submit battles to their CMDR. Also, CMDR process BSFs even when plt file shows missions has been skipped. Hear now, loud and clear: This is not allowed.
Skipping missions is not considered cheating however, battles will be removed from your profile.
All battles are playable. If you have problem with patches, contact SCO Ender mBind.

XWA testers closed
14:00 - AD Marcin Szydlowski [pbmike@go2.pl]
I've received so many XWA applications that I don't have spots anymore. Do not send applications for XWA testers. But you can still join TIE or XvT/BoP team. But remember about few basic rules:

Always include your PIN
When applying for TIE, cc TCC:TIE, XvT, TCC:XvT. Also ALWAYS cc my Command Attache.
You must have current mission design course passed (for TIE it's TM, for XvT it's XTM/1 and for XWA it's XAM). Do not apply if you don't have this course passed.
I don't tolerate slacking in my office. It's not squadron. You fail to test, you are out.

COO on Emergeny Leave
08:14 - VA Kyle Katarn [Kyle.Katarn@isdcolossus.com]
Due of catastrophic snow problems in Lower Austria, my Firefighter Unit is going to be reassigned to another Unit for 1 or 2 weeks to help them with their problems. I am able to join the Internet in that time, however I will not be able to do any COO work. For questions, please address my COOA, Autoris Maximus, LoC's are on hold till Sunday 20th! On Saturday, I am able to award LoC's and also to write a report.

TIE Corps Banner Design Competition
07:49 - FA Priyum Patel [spellfire@btinternet.com]
As many of you may have noticed, the TIE Corps' current front page banner, found here, shows the wrong page address. To correct this I've decided to hold a small competition to design a new banner, with the correct URL. This competition is open to all TC members, including Reservists. The size of the banner should be similar to the current one, but that's not particularly important. All submissions should be sent to spellfire@btinternet.com zipped and with the email subject "TC Banner".

You have until 26th January to get your submissions in. The designer of the selected banner will receive the Iron Star - Gold Ribbon, with further awards going to other submissions.

SQUADRON ORDERS
---------------

Fly! Fly for the Top Ace competition, Sov Battle of the Month, and be ready to fly against Praetorian! That last one, if nothing else!

Communicate! Send me or the entire squadron or wing e-mail. Use the squadron messageboard. My door's always open.

Write fiction, create graphics! Fiction is great, fiction with pictures is even better!

Take IWATS Courses! They look good on your ID Line and you learn stuff.

Have fun!

MISCELLANEOUS
-------------

Yeah, I sent the report out before I'd finished it. Hit the blasted Tab key instead of Capslock. Too blasted excitable. Pumped 'cause we have a new pilot and this report is out on time. Gotta calm down. Good thing I don't drink coffee. Hmm, gotta learn to type like a normal person instead of a programmer...

I think that about covers it for this week.

Thanks,

Lieutenant Colonel Josh Popelka
