-Squadron News-
- We've got a few new faces hovering about the squadron barracks! If you haven't said so already, give a warm welcome to SL Izlude, Psi's newest recruit! Izlude joins us after being recruited by LCM Vanik Rasten, fearless leader of Two Flight. Also, LCM Dark Spector re-joins us after transferring out to an FL spot in Sin earlier this year. Welcome back, Spector!
- Speaking of SL Izlude, it may be just Ford, but has anyone heard anything from the new guy since he joined? Ford didn't think we scared him that badly :P
Iz, you out there? Vanik, any inside knowledge on Iz's status?
- Combat Run 12 is OUT! You suckas best be flying TC-128 (COL Gallows' creation), The Yridian Operation. It's six missions, and not too easy (as far as Ford's flown), so, if you haven't already gotten started, please get on it. After flying the first three missions, Ford can supply a few tips:
CR Hints!
Mission 1: Not really much to hint on, as it's a pretty easy, straight-forward mission. Make sure to kill as much stuff as possible, including the FRG.
Mission 2: A harder one :P
Ford's advice:
First thing you do, power up shields and shunt all laser power to boost shields. Do this throughout the mission, as it's the only way you'll survive :P
Disable the TRN immediately; it's about .6 klicks away, so you can do it in short order.
Immediately after that, run like crazy and get out of range of the laser batteries ; drawing the ATRs with you. This will, for the most part, effectively eliminate the laser batteries as a nuisance to you. You can pretty much power down your jamming beam for now (you won't need it on constant recharge)... if you attack the ATRs, they should ignore you for the most part, and concentrate on your wingman :P
Disable one of the ATR groups and kill the other, like your missions goals suggest.
Then, kill the other extraneous craft.
After you've finished with all this fun stuff, you can go for extra points: kill the laser batteries and or the R&D Facility. Make gratuitous use of your jamming beam (i.e, keep it on all the time :P). You should be fine.
Mission 3: Again: Run quickly away out of the range of the laser batteries.
Turn, and with jamming beam turned on, use your advanced torpedos to bring the R&D facility's shields down. Before you do this, get your wingman to attack one of the laser turrets About this time, you should have a group of X-wings gunning for you. Kick up the throttle and pump up yo' lasers. They've got warheads, so riddle the lead X-wings with your lasers and you'll take out what missiles they shoot at you. Throughout this time, make sure your shields are charged, even at the expense of lasers and engine power. Use your advanced missiles. A lot. Don't be afraid to use them all up; there's a Combat Utility Vehicle that comes around, with a full load of warheads later on. If there's a lull in the fighting, use your jamming beam and advanced torps to take out the laser turrets (as many as you can).
After you've gotten rid of all the starfighters attacking you specifically, finish off the remaining turrets. If you want a high score, keep on dogfighting till you've killed all the enemy fighters..
The battle's due on the 30th, and Ford has yet to receive any submissions! As of Combat Run 10, we're in 7th place, and need a strong finish to maintain a spot in the top 12 (to advance to the play-offs)

- Ford would like to apologize to those who have BSFs pending, and also to the whole squadron, for his general lack of activity this week. It's been a very hectic week, both in the on-line realm and in RL, so he's had little time to take care of such administrative matters, like doing BSFs, responding to e-mail, and updating the squadron website. Again, apologies.
- One of the things that fell by the wayside was LC Calias' six missions six days Wing II tactical competition. The second mission set was released while Ford was on leave last weekend, and, by the time Ford re-checked his mail, he realized that it hadn't been also sent to Psi's acting CMDR, Vanik Rasten (who was having computer troubles, so it wouldn't have mattered a whole lot if he had been sent it). By the time Ford came to this realization, it was the day of the deadline for .tfr submissions...
- News from the Rebel front! Wing II's competition with the Rebel Squadron's Retribution Fleet has been approved by the powers that be, so expect more news about wasting the johnny-rebs very soon >:P
- The TC-wide competition that Ford was hinting about in past briefings has been approved by the Training Office! Again, expect more news very soon >:P The competition will incorporate all usual aspects of large-scale comps: fiction, graphics, trivia and flying, and will run from September to November.
- Rumors have been floating about of a Sovereign-wide competition? Perhaps that's been the cause of the ominous cackles from CCK's Office? Whatever the purpose, we can only pray that the COM's diverted by this to temporarily forget about his scorpions and mutated Twinnies :P
- As if you hadn't heard enough rumors about upcoming competitions, Ford's got one of his own in the planning stages >:P

- LCM Vanik Rasten has passed the IWATS Rebellion Tactics and TIE Mission Design courses. Sigh...if only IWATS counted as regular-school credit :P
- One note: The Three Flight FL spot is open, even if the rosters may not suggest that. LCM Jon Doyle asked a while ago to be relieved from his post...over the times, two different replacements have been found, but have all been forced to bow out (at least, temporarily), he's still stuck there :P
As it's not really fair for Three Flight to not have an FL, Ford is opening up applications for a Flight Leader. If you think you've got what it takes, e-mail Ford.

- Several new Free-TIE and TC-TIE battles have been released...check out the EH Battle Center (www.tiecorps.org/battles)
- TO/HA Astatine has released his newest Training Office Communique (#8), which can be found at http://www.imperialacademy.org/communique/number-8.htm. Ford would encourage all of you to check it out, as it has some important info contained in it.
- HA Astatine has appointed LC Mell (Melon!) to the post of being bugged about putting people's IWATS courses on their Personnel Profiles. If your courses aren't on there, e-mail Mell, except for SM/2 courses, which are not his responsibility.
- The FO has officially declared her policy on clones: In short, you may have one NC character and one TC character. You are not, however, allowed to have more than one TC or NC character. If you are to have an NC and TC character, you must e-mail the FO notifying her that one of you is a clone. This is a change from past FO policies, which have allowed multiple clones of yourself in the TC or NC.
