Commander Jaxx Nassin was currently watching his tablet with intense scrutiny as he was checking off a list of items to purchase from the Challenge's shopette to celebrate General Stryker's retirement. Stryker had been the backbone of the squadron since it was created over a year ago and Jaxx was trying to go all out for celebrating such a decerated year of service.

"Balloons? No. Streamers? Sure.", Jaxx muttered to himself as he scrolled through the inventory of the shopette. He wasn't sure how much Chalquilla would be needed, so he ordered one of the dormant stils to be fired back up and was currently trying to swindle some away from the Avenger.

But something weighed heavily on Jaxx's mind. The General had appointed him squadron commander. This was great news as Jaxx had been preparing for a while to take command of his own squadron for quite some time. His eyes left the data pad and drifted over to a set of paper orders currently sitting near the edge of the desk. The Fleet Commander had recently offered him a position within the Command Staff as the new Logistics Officer. His loyalty to Firebird was second to very little, but the opportunity to help the fleet wasn't something that he could pass up. Jaxx knew that by taking the Logistics position, he would be subjecting Firebird to an awkard period while a suitable commander was chosen.

He took a long sip from the glass of Chalquilla on his desk and leaned back in the chair to ponder for a moment.

Jaxx's resolve returned. He was going to accept the Logistics Officer postion and while he was still acting commander, he would do everything he could to make sure the permanent appointment had a smooth ride into the commander's office. And lastly, he was determined to throw Stryker one hell of a retirement party. Sure, it wasn't Stryker's first and likely wouldn't be his last. There's something about roaming the halls of the Phoenix that makes one miss the chaos of the active duty fleet.

A lot has happened this past month. Obviously, the big news is the announcement of Stryker's retirement to the Phoenix. He's done an outstanding job leading Firebird since it's inception, and I look forward to the time when he feels ready to step back into an active duty role. But I'm sure we'll still see him hanging out in the hangar and the Bar & Grill. So be sure to give him a hug, especially if it's against orders.

In addition to Stryker's retirement, we also bid farewell to LTs MagnoMoose and Wolf. They'll be in the reserves, and I hope we can see them again taking an active role sometime in the future.

And as everyone should know by now, I have accepted the position of Logistics Officer within the EH Command Staff. I look forward to serving the fleet's needs, but it also means I can unfortunately not accept Stryker's appointment as Firebird CMDR. That means I want one of YOU to apply! If you haven't already taken SM/5 in the IU, go do it! It's easy and fun and really the only major requirement for CMDR, other than a winning smile and the ability to slip Silwar some Chalquilla every now and again. I'll be sticking around as acting CMDR in the meantime. Also, once the new CMDR is appointed, I'll step down as a FL/SQXO to allow the future of tomorrow (one of you!) the opportunity to become the next SQXO. However, ya'll aren't rid of me that easily. I still plan to stay in Firebird as a flight member and make tons of chicken jokes with Travis.

MSEs have been submitted! I'm waiting on the COC to take a look at recommendations and give their feedback, but expect to see the shinies very soon!

Don't forget we have TIE Corps in Battle currently in progress. I was late on getting my January battles in by a few hours, so don't be a Jaxx. Fly them early and have some fun with them! We also have a convenient discord channel just for the Challenge to discuss the missions if you're having issues! I'll link the February missions below.

Lastly, Chalquilla Cup 2 is under way! The Funky Chickens are down to four pilots, so I could really use some fresh blood to help us. It's a fun time 3v3 fleet battle league using 3PO/Cadet Cup rules. So please DM me on Discord or drop me an email if you wish to participate.
