Firebird PatchFROM STRYKER'S DESKFirebird Patch
There were strange things afoot, and with Grand Admiral Rapier’s expedition to the Unknown Regions now gaining momentum, things were going to get weirder before they got any better – if the report he was reading was anything to go by, advanced scouts had been probing this region of space over a decade earlier, and yet no official record of that expedition had ever taken place. That was a concern, even more than the growing ranks of neo-Imperials joining the ranks who believed that Palpatine had been infallible and that the Empire as a whole had done nothing wrong – if either of those were true, the Emperor would still be alive and the Empire wouldn’t be a remnant confined to eight backwater worlds and a handful of warlords ekeing out their own existences on the galactic fringe.

If they’d been there, if their parents had been there, maybe their views wouldn’t have become so extreme – the New Republic’s education system has a lot to answer for, allowing them to even question the morality of Alderaan’s destruction…

Closing the terminal, Stryker leaned further back in his chair and put his feet up on the desk. When he’d been young he didn’t even consider that, at thirty one years of age, he’d have commanded Starfighter wings and entire Star Destroyers in combat; it had been a long time since he’d shed the innocence of youth, and what he was seeing recently scared him more than the prospect of death in the cold void of space. What these new pilots represented wasn’t the ideals of an Empire founded to restore peace and order, it was far darker, and they didn’t even know it.

At least his pilots didn’t seem to ascribe to that mentality; the older pilots seemed to care more about their post-mission drinks than politics, and the younger ones mostly tried to keep out of the way of their elders; lest their ships get painted garish colours for some unforeseen infraction. All he needed to do now was keep it that way, and with his current roster, hopefully that wasn't going to be as much of a challenge as it might have been in one of the regular squadrons...

Our first Squadron training was a massive success, with nine out of a possible twelve pilots showing up! Next session will be on Saturday, November 7, at 4pm Eastern time.

Personnel updates: We are now a full squadron! Lieutenant Cartec seems to have left us for the Reserves once again; replacing him are Lieutenant SkyHigh, who was waiting in the wings for a vacancy and has already been playing Squadrons and racking up the victories while aboard the Phoenix; and Sub-Lieutenant Kur Zattra!

New and (hopefully) less eye-hurting report format, I think I might be on to a winner here!

We've had several amazing submissions for the patch competition, which technically ends tonight but I've already picked a winner for; congratulations to LCM Hogan from Sin Squadron, whose patch narrowly edged out the competition! Your medal is in the mail!

High Admiral Dempsey's Challenge-wide competition starts tomorrow, with flying and non-flying activities and lots of medals up for grabs! Details in the Competitions section below!

Firebird PatchCLOSING COMMENTSFirebird Patch

We've had a pretty good opening month; we've hit the ground running and though we lost some momentum with the Squadrons hype fizzling out a little, we've kept the activity levels up and I'm very pleased with how things are progressing - there'll be shiny presents for most of you in October's MSE, I'm sure!

We're still at 0 citations, however, which is something I want to rectify over the course of the next month despite a lack of motivation to play the classic games among some of our veteran players (myself included).
