Greetings Reservists of the TIE Corps!

This is Colonel Locke Setzer, captain of this retirement cruise ship we call the M/FRG Phoenix, here with another quarterly news blast to let you know some of the latest news with the TIE Corps that might be of interest to you. I'll also have the usual helpful information about re-enlistment, medal restoration, and other topics that may be useful if you ever decide to unretire and join back up for a spell. So, without further ado...

Current Events

Raise the Flag Results

raise-the-flag.png

This past September, the entire TIE Corps hosted its annual competition to determine the Flagship of the TIE Corps, the TCCOM's Escort Squadron, and the TCCOM's Wingman for the next year.

The ISD Warrior and Battlegroup II took the crown for the flagship of the fleet this year, while Lambda Squadron defended their title and repeated as TCCOM's Escort Squadron!

TCCOM's Wingman went to LCM Vanguard88, who managed to win this title by doing something not seen in the last two decades of the TIE Corps: usurpe the legendary Colonel Brucmack as the pilot with the most battle high scores in the mission compendium, becoming the new Baron! Definitely not something I ever expected to see, but it made for a rather dramatic Raise the Flag this year!

New Games Poll!

The TCCOM is currently considering new game platforms that might be supported by the club! Currently, the TCCOM is looking for suggestions on flight sims, FPS, or RTS game platforms with a sci-fi setting and multiplayer component, that are both available on PC and currently have active communities.

If you have a suggestion, or would like to add your voice and vote on some of the current suggestions floating around out there, feel free to head over to the TIE Corps Discord server and check out #game-suggestions channel. It's available to Reservists, and we'd love to know what you think! And if you're not sure how to get onto the Discord server, feel free to check out the FAQ section below (or just reach out and ask me for help).

Sales! Sales! Sales!

Quite a few of the standard TIE Corps game platforms are on sale right now! If you're in need of a new copy (or want to pick up something you've never tried out), now is definitely the time!

Current games on sale include:

Pretty wild deal for Squadrons! Also, a nice time to throw out a reminder that all that's required for the excellent TIE Fighter Total Conversion is a copy of X-Wing Alliance!

New Sites for Emperor's Hammer and the Dark Brotherhood

Not exactly TIE Corps related, but if you happen to browse over to https://www.emperorshammer.org, you'll find the old legacy site has since been retired, with the standard TIE Corps site now serving as the primary site. This has the added benefit of keeping things equal across subgroups - you can view TIE Corps specific version of the site at https://tc.emperorshammer.org/ or the brand-new Dark Brotherhood version of the site here at https://db.emperorshammer.org/news.php! With perhaps more to come in the future...

There's also been a big effort on the website to import as many past reports as were still available! This is mostly what had been stored on the newsletters, so it's not everything, but it's now more accessible than ever! So if you're curious to revisit some old memories, feel free to navigate over to the roster pages for any ship or squadron, whether they're active or not. You should find quite a few trips down memory lane waiting for you there!

TIE Corps in Battle

One of the current competitions going on at the fleet level is TIE Corps in Battle! This is a fun competition involving the fleet where each month, a battle is assigned across multiple platforms for anyone in the fleet to fly. That means a battle for TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, and, starting this season, TIE Fighter Total Conversion as well.

Speaking of which, if you haven't had a chance yet to try out TIE Fighter Total Conversion, I highly recommend it! If you've ever wanted to have a taste of a modern day TIE Fighter experience, this modification for X-Wing Alliance goes quite a way towards accomplishing that goal. You can find installation instructions here, and if you encounter any issues getting it set up, feel free to pop into the #technical-support channel on the TIE Corps Discord and ask for help! Reservists are welcome there!

For more information about the TIE Corps in Battle competition, please view the competition listing here!

Frequently Asked Questions

I feel like I've seen a few of the same questions from folks who have been interested in returning to active service or just curious about how the TIE Corps is working these days in general. I know I had a number of them myself when I rejoined! Here's a collection of frequently asked questions and answers, tailored for folks presently chilling in the Reserves!

Question: Hey! I want to rejoin but I don't know how! What do I do?

Answer: Good question! It's pretty easy - you just have to contact the TCCOM, HA Plif! You can send him an email (tccom@emperorshammer.org) or you can message him on Discord (plif346) - whatever's easier for you! And if you're having any problems, you can always email me too - I'll help get things worked out for you.

Question: My profile on the TIE Corps website isn't right. I used to have medals! I used to have history! Now it's all gone and I'm sad.

Answer: Don't be sad! A lot of us old-timers have gone through this. Fortunately, there is a way to restore things! We don't have it at a place where we can do it automatically for everyone, but if you reach out to the TCCOM (via email at tccom@emperorshammer.org or Discord at plif346) and request a restoration, he can get that process started for you. We do ask for patience - it can take a bit of time. But have heart - your accomplishments are not lost to time! Please reach out to me too if you have any additional questions on this process.

Question: Are you going to make me rejoin to restore my records and stuff?

Answer: We want to be able to do this for everyone who wants it. Admittedly, we are going to prioritize active members who need it over reservists. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't ask! We'd love to have you back, but making sure your past accomplishments are recorded and available is part of our duty to you, regardless of current activity status. You've earned it.

Question: Can I join the Discord server even if I'm in the Reserves?

Answer: Of course! You won't have access to all the channels, but you will be able to see and participate in most of the general chat channels, including the common hang-out spot, #plifs-asteroid-bar-and-grill. If you haven't joined the Discord server yet, the link to join is here.

Question: I don't really want to be active, but I do like doing the trivia and/or puzzle competitions, taking an Imperial University course, flying a mission, or doing some multiplayer once in a blue moon. Do I have to be in a squadron to do that stuff?

Answer: No! You're welcome to log in and submit your own BSFs for missions flown, take Imperial University/IWATS courses, do the trivia/puzzle competitions, report multiplayer matches... whatever you'd like to do. But... being in a squadron means that you can get awarded for that activity with merit medals. And there's a lot of squadron commanders out there who would be happy to have a pilot who just wants to contribute the odd bit of activity here and there. So don't feel like you have to be super active to be considered active - it's really okay to be an active member even when you can only do a little, as long as you're having fun and keeping in touch.

Question: What are the supported platforms again?

Answer: We introduced Elite Dangerous this year as a new platform! Read more about how that works here! Otherwise, no major changes, but just as a refresher...

  • TIE Fighter
  • X-Wing
  • X-Wing vs TIE Fighter
  • X-Wing Alliance
  • X-Wing Alliance Upgrade (MP only)
  • TIE Fighter Total Conversion (MP and the SP Reimagined battles)
  • Star Conflict
  • Star Wars Battlefront (2015)
  • Star Wars Battlefront II (2017)
  • Star Wars: Squadrons
  • Star Wars: Empire at War
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • Elite Dangerous

Question: I never want to hear from you again! Can you stop emailing me?!?

Answer: Never's a long time, and I promise that we'll only send these out once every few months or so. But if you'd really prefer not to be in the Reserves, please reach out to me and I'll help get you reassigned to Inactive, which will deactivate your account and prevent any further communications.

That concludes our little quarterly Reservist update email! If you have any questions about re-joining the TIE Corps, events going on, or just want to talk and shoot the breeze about old times, please feel free to reach out! My email is locke.f.setzer@gmail.com and my Discord name is LockeSetzer. Please use whichever is most convenient for you. My door is always open!
