EH Security Office Report

Security Office News

It is a good idea to read my reports (maybe twice). You do not need to include Grand Admiral Ronin when e-mailing me about a security concern. As I've said earlier, he's got better things to worry about than having to read every single e-mail I get (which is a lot). It's also a good idea to include your ID line when you e-mail me so I have an idea on who you are.

IRC incidents were pretty low this past week. Excellent work in obeying the Codes of Conduct (yes they do exist). I'd also like to thank Channel ops for doing their duty and cutting down on my work. I heavily appreciate it.

If you get banned from an IRC channel, ask yourself "Did I do something stupid to deserve that?" The most likely reason is that you were being annoying, rude, or a combination of both. Remember, EH communication channels such as IRC are for all members to enjoy, and being annoying just makes people angry. Please don't come crying to me because you got banned from a channel for doing something stupid. Take your ban and learn from it.

Starting tomorrow I will be on a temporary leave. It is rifle season in Michigan (for deer) and I will be running between school, work, and hunting camp for the next two weeks. I should be able to check my e-mail at least once every three days (two probably), but if there are any emergencies you can always contact the Executive Officer. There should be no delay in reports during this time period.

The positions of Command Attache and Security Office Assistants are not open for applications at this time. Asking about them will basically get you zero chance of obtaining them if/when I do open the position(s) for applications. It's possible I may be hiring a pair of Security Office Assistants (SOA) to help monitor IRC and various messageboards when I'm not present, but we'll see.

My office is always open for business. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the above information, please feel free to contact me at so@emperorshammer.org and I will respond usually within twelve hours at the most. You can also catch me on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) as `Vlad, `Vlad`, or RA_Xavier.

2004 Security Office Tasks

-Internet security matters.
New product this week. Watching for major virus alerts. Always remember to keep your Virus scanners up-to-date and your programs patched via Microsoft Windows Update.

-Faster timeframe for issues to be resolved, brought to the HCI, etc.
Two cases were sent to the HCI by the TAC this week.

-Revise Articles of War and Bylaws in consultation with relevant parties.
This project is underway. Check here for updates.

Security Information Nexus

Here's a handy utility for encrypting your valuable data. It's called Cryptainer LE Encryption Software. Check out the link for more information. Remember to always back up your files (both on your computer and online).
