EH Security Office Report

Security Office News

There seems to be some misconception on the chain of command lately. You should not be e-mailing Grand Admiral Ronin about problems with other members. That is the job of the High Court and myself, the Security Officer. Always follow the chain of command so everyone stays informed. Grand Admiral Ronin does not have the time to both run the entire EH and solve disputes among members. That is why we have a Security Office (and daycare center in the back).

Rear Admiral Thorin Oakenshield has been expelled from the Emperor's Hammer for violating his IRC probation over twenty-five times. He is to be removed from all EH rosters in all subgroups. I believe expelled members are not allowed in EH Communication channels (i.e. Internet Relay Chat [IRC]) but I have to double check on that. For now, he is to be banned until further notice.

I'm really lax on minor issues such as light swearing on IRC and whatnot. The HCI and myself have a lot of work to do other than listen to people complaining to me because someone disagreed with them. Before you think about charging whoever with mutiny, disrespect, etc, stop and think about it first. I don't mean to sound lazy here (I assure you I've been working hard three seconds into getting promoted) but come on. Common sense goes a long way ...

The new Security Office website is now live. You can access it by clicking on the Security Office banner at the end of the report or merely by clicking here. A little more coding needs to be done before it's fully operational, and the content still needs to be added. As you can see, I had a Matrix thing going on at the time of its construction; a lot of thanks to Tiamat of the ISD Grey Wolf for his work on it. Looks great!

Remember, no rDB members in EH communication channels. Obviously rDB members are not allowed to be members of the TIE Corps or other subgroups either. There are absolutely no compromises to this and violators will be punished harshly.

After discussion with High Admiral Priyum Patel, we have decided that any foolish actions in Free Worlds will not be tolerated. We have the largest faction on Burnout's server which means we have a lot more members to control. The EH's reputation with those who control the server is not the best (understatement) so anyone making it worse will have a greater chance of getting in trouble. Before you post on the forums there, consider your post's importance to the conversation and what type of response you're likely to get. Things like this can go a long way in making the EH a better faction in Free Worlds.

Once thing I'm starting to notice in my position is the way power is abused by those who wield higher ranking positions within the fleet. I laugh to myself as I see officers exercising powers that even I, a member on the Command Staff, do not posess. Please, check yourself and know your limits.

The positions of Command Attache and Security Office Assistants are not open for applications at this time. Asking about them will basically get you zero chance of obtaining them if/when I do open the position(s) for applications. It's possible I may be hiring a pair of Security Office Assistants (SOA) to help monitor IRC and various messageboards when I'm not present, but we'll see.

My office is always open for business. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the above information, please feel free to contact me at so@emperorshammer.org and I will respond usually within twelve hours at the most. You can also catch me on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) as `Vlad, `Vlad`, or RA_Xavier.

2004 Security Office Tasks

-Internet security matters.
New product this week. Watching for major virus alerts. Always remember to keep your Virus scanners up-to-date and your programs patched via Microsoft Windows Update.

-Faster timeframe for issues to be resolved, brought to the HCI, etc.
Working great so far.

-Revise Articles of War and Bylaws in consultation with relevant parties.
This begins next week starting with the Articles of War.

Security Information Nexus

Speaking of Free Worlds, I have a nifty utility that could prevent you getting banned from the server. Spyware is the term for annoying programs on your computer that send data about you to their makers. They can send your system information, keystrokes, and even what websites you visit. The more of these that build up, the more it lags up your internet connection.

This in turn can transmit a lot of bad data, especially when you're on a gaming server. Spyware has crashed Burnout's server on more than one occasion and you can get banned for it. I reccomend a program called Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition. It scans your entire system (RAM, registry, hard drives, etc) and deletes all the spyware from your system improving performance. It has a very friendly user interface and running it once a week can help your computer stay healthy. I strongly reccomend using this program.
