INTERNET OFFICE REPORT #51
August 9, 2002

Internet Office News

Well, not much has been happening really in the Internet Office this week other than focus on the new IO project: the Auroran News Network (ANN). ANN is a fictional EH newspaper that picks up where THJ left off. That means we need writers. We have a large staff of editors for sections, but we need YOU to write. The sections are:

News, Business, Sports, Columns, Travel, Science, Letters, Op-Ed (you can't really write for that :P), Games, Entertainment, Culture. I think that's it.

Since this is an inter-subgroup venture, please make sure to tell ALL your friends in all subgroups to write for us! It's extremely important to get articles, because I know this can succeed! Also of note, Hawkeye II agents may have to look up information in issues of ANN, which means we're going to release ANN no matter what - why not make it all the better by writing for it! Who knows, I may add in some extra Hawkeye information into YOUR article...

That said, please mail all your articles to ari@tiecorps.org and I will direct your article to the appropriate editor.

One last thing, I am not at my home computer for a week so I will not have full access to my e-mail. If you send me something and you don't get a response, sent it to me again. Or, if it's extremely urgent, mail it to agilder@aol.com.

Emperor's Hammer: Site of the Week

With a nice, new design, the Imperial Senate website at http://senate.borkweb.com earns the SOTW award this week with 4 stars. Very nice contrast of colors, and use of table "borders" but it still remains a little empty in terms of things a Senator can do. Congrats to Orv Dessrx (orv@borkweb.com) on a job well done!

Code Snippet of the Week

Date difference calculator v1.0

A PHP script written by VA Leeson, it's analogous to the ASP function DateDiff. Since PHP does not have such a function (since it deals with UNIX timestamps for dates), this function returns the days, months or years between 2 timestamps.

You can find the full code for this snippet, along with many others, at the IO Code Archive!
