XO Report # 10 (2002-01-09)

This report was submitted by SA Kawolski

The will most likely be the last time I address the fleet in this matter. As many of you may have been aware, there has been an extremely sharp decline in my activity and response time in the past month. I have to confess that I no longer have had the time nor will to continue or fulfill my duties as Executive Officer and have been planning my retirement plans and working out key issues over that period of time. My reasons for leaving are simple: lack of time and interest. Over the last month, my workload in my real life job has increased tenfold. What free time I do have has diminished sharply after deciding to return to university. Instead of taking up space and being inactive, I have chosen to finally retire from the Emperor's Hammer in its entirety and move on with my life. This time, I don't have an interest in future positions. GA Ronin has asked me to stay on as Fleet Systems Engineer temporarily until I finish moving stuff off my server. Taking my place will be the Training Officer, HA Astatine (jpboyce@indigo.net.au). He has been a member of this club for many years and I'm sure he'll make an excellent replacement. The TIE Corps Database, website, and data will all be transferred to GA Ronin over the next month and Astatine will be able to make code updates. If all goes well, the TC will not lose anything except perhaps suffer a little bit of downtime. CA:XO VA Canta Jade will remain to finish up the overdue Newsletter (November 2001 Issue) and hopefully be around to help Astatine compile the December 2001 Issue as well. The EH Database system, however, will need to be reconstructed. For legal reasons, I cannot give out the code that I used for the EH Database. I'll keep it online for a month or two to allow the Fringe, Corporate Division, and Senate to use the old system while they eventually migrate to another database system that somebody else in the fleet can construct. The operational costs for keeping the domain up is about $70 a month for me and they're getting higher as the domain requires more and more bandwidth. I've been rather pleased with my tour of duty here in the club. I have managed to bring the TIE Corps from the dead as FO, resurrect a dysfunctional Tactical Office as TAC, and hopefully have made some sort of difference for many as XO. I have managed to earn every medal in the TC (with the exception of some of the newer Iron Stars and obsolete MoCs), I have made many good friends in this club, and I have really enjoyed my time here. While I believe there is a lot more I could do for and offer to this club, I sadly must hang up my uniform and call it quits. The club will continue to do fine without me and I will stop by every now and then to say hello. Take care, everyone, and good luck in the future! :) Retired Sector Admiral Kawolski
