COMM Report #11

Greetings from COMM-ingrad. I'm gonna try this again, as I'd already had the whole report written when tc.org crashed and I lost the whole stupid thing. :P Hope everyone's week has been as good as mine has.

I'd like to start by congratulating SA Astatine on his promotion to XO. I'm sure you're gonna do us all proud, Ast.

Now to business. Quite a busy week in our office.

Promotions:

AD Quake has been promoted to CA:COMM, and COMMA Ziggy has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Congrats to both of them on their promotions.

Hacking:

This week our office has worked with FA Stalker5 and the Security Office on prosecuting people abusing //$decode commands on IRC. I'm gonna repeat part of last week's report here... //$decode is a hack. It is a backdoor, and most certainly a violation of the "No Hacking" CoC. Not only that, it is punishable by Aow's #401 and #404. If someone tries to get you to run a //$decode, confirm their identity, and email myself and the SO. (teeps10@alltel.net and stalker5@rothwell-clieves.freeserve.co.uk)

Medals:

The Medal of Communication has become quite a hot topic, and a major issue confronting our current COMM Administration. Needless to say, we have been hard at work to remedy the situation the MoC currently faces. The main problems we've been running into with the MoC's have been the split-board system, spam, and SG members receiving their MoC's. Currently, AD Quake is working in conjunction with JediJawa to recode the EHMB, and by doing so will work to make MoC awarding for the EHMB at least become a lot easier. Ziggy has become more vigilant in poicing the boards for spam every day, so that he doesn't have to search for it and waste a lot of time when he is awarding the medals. Finally, FA Kumba and I have been trying to organize an IRC MoC Summit. This summit will be held on IRC, and involve many CS and SG higher-ups, and will work to get some solid MoC policy punched out, where currently the policy is very foggy. When the date and time of the summit are determined, I will post it in the new COMM report, so that the general membership can sit in on the meeting and become informed about this hot topic.

That's about it, congratulations again to SA Astatine. Thanks for reading!
