COMM Report #24 May 3, 2002

News: With the recent issues the EHNet has experienced, our Office site is off the radar until we can get our PHP files back together and reset the site to how it was. Also related to the EHNet crash, the MB system has been turned on its head, leaving us to decide what to do about MoC's. We will be trying to revamp the system along with the OPS office... please email AD Motti with any suggestions. Thanks to FA AbK and FA Ari for working hard tog et EHNet back up!

COMM Product Review: This Week's Product: ICQ Vesion 2000b Beta v.4.65 Highs: Good real time messaging, chat/file server interface, Advanced mode and beginner's mode. Conversations are logged, and it is highly customizable. Lows: Too many buttons for n00bs. Some features can be confusing. ICQ also relies on a system of remembering your Universal Internet Number (UIN) for connecting. Also, as I keep having to reinstall, my contact list gets cleaned out every 4-5 months. Overall Review: ICQ is and always has been impressive, but with competition like AIM, Yahoo, and MSN, it's days are more than numbered. Too many features and not enough ease of use make for it to be an aging and decrepit product. Perhaps it's one saving grace in my opinion is the fact it'll search your Email-Client (Outlook Express, of course) and cross-referance email addresses to people who have ICQ. 5 out of 10 COMM Office Stars
