SO Report # 11 (2002-11-01)

This report was submitted by FA Brad

First of all, I would like to post a reminder to all channel operators in EH channels. Read and follow the Codes of Conduct. If you are on IRC and away or not able to check the channel, deop yourself. You do not have to be opped all of the time. It helps the Communications Officer and me if we can tell if there are ops in the channel active at the time. Moderating IRC channels all of the time is one of the hardest tasks for EH officers. Try to ensure that when you are active in the channel that Codes of Conduct are followed. Those who are not ops can always log IRC channels and report violations to me. This is especially important when there are no active operators in the channel. Channel operators have a '@' symbol before their nickname. Those with a '+' before their name do not have privileges to ban or kick people in the channel. They can only talk when the channel is set to +m (moderated) mode. The SO page is up. I lost PHP functionality though. Also I'm currently unable to post images. I'm waiting on FA Stalker5 to fix the permissions to let me have images. I hope to gain PHP-based news functionality again also. Everything is plain HTML now. I did add more information that is useful to members. Check out the FAQ, SubGroup Security, and Regulations pages. They are new to the office. I had a few complaints come in this week. Two are under investigation. I also have a few ongoing investigations, which now are at a standstill. Kal-Ket pleaded guilty to the HCI. Check their page for information on his punishment. http://www.minos.net/~moreco/hci/news.php. I encourage ALL EH members to use and update their virus scanning software. Also be sure to scan it at least once a month. For those who are able to afford such software and don't have it, please do so. We have had many viruses going through to EH member's e-mails because of those in their address books (especially Command Staff officers). FA Ari (io@emperorshammer.org) has been collecting e-mail headers of those who have the Klez virus. Please do not send those e-mails to me. Another thing you can do (for those who have Windows), Use the Windows Update to download and install all of the critical updates. This also secures your computer against known methods of unauthorized access, for which Microsoft made a patch. Go online and click on the Start Menu and go to Settings or Programs, Accessories, System Tools to find Windows Update, or with your Internet Explorer browser, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
