Battlegroups Report 18

[taps the com button] Testing…testing…is this thing on? Greetings! Welcome to yet another edition of the Battlegroups Report! Lots going on this week, so let’s get right to it.

NEWS FROM THE BGS

Some comings and goings to mention. First, Wysseri has been selected as the new Wing VIII WC! Please join me in wishing her good luck in her new posting. This of course opens up a squadron commander vacancy in Wing VIII.

In sadder news, RL has compelled GN Drake to step down as Wing IX WC. I’m sure I speak for all of us in wishing Drake the very best and hoping that he’ll be able to rejoin the BGs soon in any capacity. He’s done a great deal for the TC and the BGs over the years, and he’ll be missed. Obviously this also means that the Wing XI WC position is now open. Requirements are posted on the news page.

The BG Scramble comp is over, and the results are in. Taking the top honors in XWA was the Relentless, with the Immortal a very close second (roughly 1000 points separated the two). In the TIE bracket, the Colossus edged out the Challenge with some very impressive scores (the score difference here was about 23,000 – the Col put up some impressive scores). Congratulations to all who took part in this little comp, which was also something of a readiness test. Iron Stars will be distributed to the high scoring pilots soon.

By way of something different, our next comp will be a multi-player event open to all MP pilots in the BGs. Details will be coming soon, so be ready.

Imperial Storm IV is also on the horizon. For those of you who may have missed them before, Imp Storms are fleet-wide wargames that usually pit teams against each other. I’ll be looking for tactical officers to help manage the BGs team this time around, so e-mail me if you’re interested.

In other fleet news, the maximum rank for FMs has been raised through the efforts of our very own Flight Officer!

I’ve been getting some disturbing reports about parking problems on the Challenge, as well as some unseemly conduct by certain officers (and the pets of other officers) on board the Immortal. While I’ve yet to encounter the roaming menace of the Immortal, the parking abilities (or lack thereof) of a certain officer on the Challenge recently required me to change my personal fighter. Now I don’t want to have to put my drink down and come over there, so these shenanigans need to stop at once. Now I realize that the chances of that happening are as slim as…well…some really slim thing, but I had to discharge my obligations as your BGCOM. Now I’ll be returning to my quarters and my after-dinner drink.

STANDING ORDERS AND PROCEDURES

Nothing new this time out.

SHIP NEWS AND PROJECTS

A new section, to deal with something from the Immortal. Have a look…

Many Star Wars fans across the world are anticipating the release of what is sure to be one of the greatest games of all time, Star Wars Galaxies. The release date of the game is set for June 25th, 2003 and the Immortal is preparing itself for release. After collaborated efforts, the Immortal has formed a player association called The Lost Souls. A webpage has been put up with haste at http://lostsouls.minos.net. This webpage will be the core of life for the PA until the game is realease. This is a way for the Immortal and the greater Battle Groups to get a chance to enjoy some of the newest and greatest games available. By banding together in a community we can support the Battle Groups together, as well as each other and make the game more fun for everyone. With the space expansion to the game sure to be more advanced than any flight simulation before it, this will be the home to some of the greatest pilots in existance. Us at the Immortal welcome anyone who wishes to join our Player Association and make the game Star Wars Galaxies more enjoyable for all, and help support the TIE Corps Battle Groups from within.

RANT FROM THE RANKS

No big rants this time around, but I’d like to mention that if you have ship news you think might interest the BGs as a whole, send it along to me and I’ll work it into the BGCOM Report.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

I really need to remind myself not to write BGCOM reports after a long day at work…

That’s all for now. Keep flying and having fun!
