Battlegroups Report 8

Greetings and welcome to a new edition of the Battlegroups report! Lots of stuff going on, so let’s get right to it!

NEWS FROM THE BGS

First off, I’d like to congratulate RA Indaro Gallia on his promotion to COM of the Colossus! He’s currently accepting applications for WC of Wing VIII. The requirements are posted on the TC News page as well as the MB.

Secondly, the Immortal’s own RogueWing has earned a promotion to the exalted rank of Vice Admiral! Good work, RW, and it’s been well-earned!

There were a number of other promotions in the past two weeks, as well as a shuttle-load of LoAs from the Newsletters. My congratulations go out to all those who were promoted!

With a change in OPS, there has also been an overhaul of the way medals will be awarded in the TC. You’ve all no doubt seen the MB exchange regarding this. As soon as official requirements are announced, they’ll be forwarded down to all CMDRs. I’m also going to keep all successful medal recommendations on file, so that we have a stockpile of templates. With no formal forms, it’s the next best thing. Just remember that for most medals, flying no longer seems to be enough.

A few things still need to fall into place before my planned BG-wide competition can begin. But I can suggest that the ships in the Provisional Battlegroups (ISDs Colossus and Challenge in BG 1 and ISDs Relentless and Immortal in BG 2) might want to consider some Wing-on-Wing competitions. You’ll be working together during the upcoming comp, so it might be a good idea to get to know each other. (/broad hint)

STANDING ORDERS AND PROCEDURES

Not much to put in this section this time around. Things seem to be moving pretty well on the whole.

RANT FROM THE RANKS

Yes, we have one this time! Our Rant this week comes from a Squadron Commander in Wing IX.

The other day a guy in my wing asked me if he got extra points for destroying turrets. I told him no and he lamented for not knowing that before, because he disabled ships and then took out the turrets, and wasted
a long time on that.

Why don't ppl know these things? This is the life of the TC pilot who wants to get high-scores! You waste hours and hours to get the best scores, only to find out later that "You missed that secret objective"; "if you had waited 5 minutes after the mission ended, you would get 1000 bonus points"; or "Getting the lost shot doesn't count, or does it?".

And who the hell is gonna tell you these things? I go to #tiecorps and say to a guy "Hi, I liked your battle, the Toscan Fighters and Gunships were great." and some brainless hotshot comments "Toscan fighters are worthless. And Gunships are too easy to take out!". To these things I only feel like answering "Dog, you even know what a Gunship is?". And later you find out some dude made a TIE-Free mission where a Tie Interceptor has to fight several enemy flights and a couple of´frigates all alone. Was it that same
hotshot who made it? Maybe.

And there you have it! Our first rant! The CMDR makes some good points: know your game platform and take the time to answer questions and help other pilots out.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

A request has gone up the chain for a Battlegroups Forum on the EH Message Boards. Such a forum can be used for sharing ideas, tips, and generally shooting the you-know-what. It will help us all get to know each other better, and make the BGs tighter as a unit.
