SSSD Sovereign Report # 20 (2002-01-20)

SSSD SOVEREIGN NEWS, 1-20-02

COM/VA Proton reporting for the SSSD Sovereign, flagship of the Emperor's Hammer Strike Fleet.

Wing commanders, pass this along to your squadrons.

**Proton emerges from T/F Desperate in the Sovereign's hangar bay, blinking his way through the ozone-rich smoke pouring off the scorch marks along the TIE Fighter's hull.
He is just back from the Return of the Rat Pack, round one, which was a loss for the Pack despite the valiant flying of COL Reaper, the only flag officer to join the commodore in the ill-fated combat run.
Suddenly dizzy and nauseated, Proton sags against bulkhead passage outside his quarters. He stumbles into his quarters and barks a comm-channel command to his droid assistant, Snippy: "Snip, quick ... I think it's the Gungan flu ... I need bacta and a bottle full of Imperial penicillin. ... Uuurrrgghh ..."

SOVEREIGN AND FLEET NEWS AND NOTES

-- Wing II wins the marathon event otherwise know as the SSSD Sovereign Mascot Power Battles! Now we all must endure the enhanced arrogance of the Mariachi Mini-Fords, but it was a contest very well fought and won by Wing II. Individual medals are being submitted by COL Ford Prefect. Ford did a great job on this comp and he will be rewarded as well. He was ably assisted by various judges. I appreciate the participation of each and every Sovereign pilot who competed, and I thank Ford and the judges for running one of the best and most enjoyable competitions ever seen aboard the flagship.
Results of the final round (TIE) and the final standings of the MPB are listed at the bottom of this report.

-- The new Wing I WC is ..... I've made my recc to the FO and am awaiting confirmation. This was a very rich field of candidates, and I appreciate each and every one of the applicants.

FORCE STRENGTH

-- The Sovereign's numbers are up this week due to some strong recruitment. Things are looking even better on the flagship. This is a great crew and I'm proud of these pilots.

-- From COL Ford, the final results (edited by VA Proton):

It's been a long and ardurous journey to reach the end of the Mascot Power Battles. Pilot performances of the highest caliber, name-calling, trash-talking and mascot brawling have been some various definitive points of this competition. Although the short list of contenders was established early on, most of the wings continued scrapping hard far into the competition, as evidenced by many high marks on the TIE portion of the comp.
Before Ford gives the results, he would like to thank all the Sov WCs who put in the effort and time to judge, as well as those who motivated their wings to excel in participation. Well-done!

So, the results!

In seventh place, licking his shorted fuses, tenderly poking his gaping
metallic holes and attempting to maintain what's left of his feathers is the Wing V Robotic Eagle! Wing V finished with 25 total points in the competition.

In sixth place, nursing his mangled mojo and consoling himself with a
half-eaten Reservist is the Wing VI Wacky Wampa! Wing VI finished up with 227 points.

In fifth place, already chain-smoking and complaining about 'rigged
events', the always bitter, sardonic and beloved TK-1512 of Omega Squadron! Omega represented themselves well with 319 points.

Wing I finished *fourth* overall, with Rick the Fighting Pink Elephant garnering 371 total points.

Now, the top three...

In third place, rubbing some IcyHot on his wounds, the till-belligerent
Sergeant Bash the Judo Yoda of Wing III! Wing III held the second place spot until the very last event, and rounded out the competition with 556 total points.

In second place, trying to fix a few shorted circuits is Harold the
Insidious Interrogation Droid of Wing IV! Harold and Wing IV stormed back after falling behind in the middle portions of the comp, and came close to taking the top spot with a heroic effort in the TIE division. The IVers finished up with an impressive 952 points.

Finally, in first place, the winners of the Mascot Power Battles, the
battered, bruised but victorious Mariachi MiniFords of Wing II!

::: The Sov explodes in a hideous cacophany of wild yells and castanets :::

Wing II - 1st
Wing IV - 2nd
Wing III - 3rd
Wing I - 4th
Omega - 5th
Wing VI - 6th
Wing V - 7th

Although Wing II led for most of the competition, they were still forced to overcome tough challenges from Wings III and IV before they were able to take the crown. However, when the dust settled, their garish visages were the only ones seen standing. And so, with 1093 total points, Wing II is declared the winners of the first Mascot Power Battles competition! Congratulations!

More congrats to all the pilots and wings who fought hard for their mascots and made this competition as fun as it was. Thanks, guys!

Finally, one last note to WCs...although medals for the top three pilots in each division will be awarded soon, if you feel if any of your pilots participated in a manner of particular excellence throughout this competition, please write some recommendations up for merit medals for the deserving pilots and send the recs to Ford to submit to OPS along with all the other medals.

::: begins grooving out to 'La Cucaracha' :::
