Windows XP SP2 and You.

As usual the Microsoft data on their new "SP2" only elaborates on what it can do more now, and not on what it will fail at now.
As it looks now, SP2 will not run a utility called "TIEPATCH.EXE", something which we use in all patches, also not when you use the XPInstaller.
We will be replacing this utility ASAP but for the time being: if you want to play missions that use patches do not install XP SP2.
Note: Uninstalling SP2 doesn't work, it will just remain on your system and pretend its not there.
SHIP/WING NEWS
Hmm, relevant ship news. Youve all received the ECR information repeatedly in themail, so i wont bore you. Iwill however stress the importanceof this comp-and the ease with which we can hopefully win it. No more than 2 hours work will cover ALL the activities, so no excuses guys.
Secondly, congrats to Major Tomax Drachen on his promotion to... Major. While he wont be with us for much longer, he has earned his rank well, and is totally deserving of it.

Make sure you read your squadron reports thoroughly, i know several comps are already running there...
ECR is on its way - with a whole host of seperate sections. Rather than list them again, ill refer you to thee-mails youve all received. Theres fiction, graphics, and free mission flying. Battle design is alreadybeinghandled, butremember,youcan contribute ideas and suggestions. Participation couldnt be easier - 2 hours of your time will cover EVERYTHING - and the events are staggered,so thats like 25 minutes a week? too much too ask? I dont think so.
Relentless Top Gun is therefore on hold for the minute, while IS5 - i dont know whats going on there....

STANDING ORDERS
By Order of Rear Admirall Thorin Oakenshield, all personel in Wing IX will read and obey these standing orders. Failure to abide by these orders may result in removal from your position, demotion, or being HCIed, depending on the nature of the offense. Any questions about these standing orders should be directed to the Wing Commander, MAJ Jarek La'an
-ALL MEMBERS-
Weekly Contact
At the very minimum, all members of the Wing will make contact with thier direct superior at least one time per week, VIA EMAIL. This is the very minimum to be considered active in Wing IX. If you intend to be off of the internet for more then (5) days, email your Commander and let him or her know as a common courtesy. If you are taking a Leave of Abscense more then ten (10) days, notify your Commander -AND- the Wing Commander via email.
-SQUADRON COMMANDERS-
Weekly Squadron Reports (WSRs)
WSEs will be submitted NLT 12.00PM each Thursday by email to the Wing Commander, Your Squadron, and the Wing IX Email List.
Monthly Squadron Evaluations (MSEs)
MSEs will be submitted to the Wing Commander NLT the fourth to last day of the month. I.E. if there are 31 days in the Month, your MSE will be submitted by midnight on the 27th. If there are 30 Days, the 26th, and so on.
AWOLs / MIAs / Reserve Requests
If you have found a pilot to be AWOL (no contact in 30 days), or MIA (bad email address), or a pilot has requested to go the reserves, you WILL NOT make the database request yourself. Forward the relevant information to the Wing Commander, who will verify the information, and make one last effort to 'save' the pilot before he or she is removed from the wing. This is NOT to take authority away from the CMDRs, but to allow the flags to ensure that a pilot really wants to leave. A good example is a pilot whos pissed off at his CMDR and has requested the reserves, when it's entirely possible the pilot would be happy in another squadron.
Flight Leaders
EVERY Flight Leader position in the Wing will ALWAYS be filled. If your Flight Leader leaves the squadron for whatever reason, you will appoint a new Flight Leader immediately. The Flight Office requires that all three flights have a leader in order for new pilots to be placed in that Squadron. We will not miss any opportunity for new pilots!
Designated XO
Every Squadron will have a designated XO. This person will know what he or she needs to do in the event that you are unable to come online, specifically in the area of filing a report for you.

Rather than the usual copy and paste of the opening remarks, im going to start by ending on a military maxim, or thought for the day... Today, you get both...
"Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori" - Horace's infamous maxim, it is sweet and right to die for ones country. Death is never sweet nor right, but i suppose that there are worse things to die for...
