Wing III Report # 5 (2001-11-07)

This report was submitted by LC Jahan Kalar

Greetings Wing III, it's once again time (actually more than time) for another Wing report. The last two weeks have been exciting, and all of a sudden college has gotten to be a lot of work (who would have thought, right?). Anyways, there's some new stuff to do, and some things I'd like to announce. So let's get going!

Position Changes and Promotions
Tvan'Oris has been promoted to the rank of Commander. Congrats Commander Tvan'Oris! I hope you have some money saved up to buy us all some drinks :)
LT Alhana Creed has left Wing III for Raptor Squadron.
LT Ian Khorst has transferred from Gimel to Aleth Squadron.
Medals and Awards
Unless I missed something, no new Medals or Awards :(

IWATS
LT Strathaven has completed SM/2.
LCM Ace Hobbes has completed IWATS Core. This may seem a little confusing, but that is because you are slow ;)
LT Strathaven has completed ICQ.
LCM Scoser has completed M/1.
LT Syntax has completed CBX.
LT Syntax has completed SM/2.
LT Marine Ross has completed SM/2.
Wing III News
The Mascot Power Battles trivia competition has ended. When I get the results, I will release them. You all seem to like trivia, so I bet we did pretty well.
The Mascot Power Battles XWA comp has started. You have to fly and zip up XWA-IW Battle #26 by the 21st of November and send your pilot files to me (zipped of course). So make like a zipper and fly. Uh, yeah, never mind. Just fly or Garnash will get you. Yes, that's right, he followed me to my Wing Commander office. So watch out.
CM Autoris Maximus has registered #Wing_III on undernet with Undernet Cservice. This means we have X to keep Ops in our channel. So now our channel is under our control all the time. Great job CM Maximus.

Special Note on Code of Conduct
Recently there has been some things said on some squadron mailing lists that would have been better off not said. So...I think I should say something about how you should all behave on mailings lists, message boards, and IRC. They are all places to have discussions and exchange ideas. They are not places to publish personal attacks on either individuals or groups. Friendly joking is ok, but beyond that is not ok. How can you tell when it goes beyond jokes? If in doubt, don't say it. That's the basic rule I want you all to follow. Our lists, boards, and channel are places to have fun, let's try and keep it that way. Thanks.

Fun Stuff of the Week, "What command officers say and what they really mean"
"Reading between the lines" is something that is often hard to do, and it gets higher the higher up the chain of command you go. For example, when I talk with Fleet Admirals, I have to figure out what they mean by "Hmm, yes." as a response to "What do you think I should do?" Please note, here's a good way to tell if I'm joking or not. If you are thinking of demoting me to Wing Commander of Wing Toilet Cleaners, I am joking. So here's some help to figure out what commanding officers say and what they really mean. Enjoy.
"Do you agree?" -Remember, I outrank you.
"Excellent idea." -I will be stealing it and calling it my own.
"Hmm, interesting point of view." - I can't believe you are that stupid.
"Squadron commanders will be conducting individual briefings." - I have a hangover.
"I'll have to remember that." - I don't remember what you just said.
"I will look into that." - I will appoint someone to look into that.
"Maybe." - Not a chance in hell.
"Are you sure you want to do that?" - Your replacement is standing by.
"Bring me up to speed on what you've been doing." - I'm too lazy to keep track of what's going on.
Quote of the Week
"America is our team, and if you don't want to support your team, get the hell out of the stadium." - South Park
That's all for now...until next time, shoot straight and faster than they do.
