TIE CORPS NEWS: We obviously have a new Battlegroup Commander. Everyone join me in extending a warm Wing IX welcome to VA Mell, formerly the COM of the Colossus. His position was taken by Absolut Vodka, with Drake moving to command Wing VIII. Congratulations on your promotions, gentlebeings! A “Create a Villain” competition has also been announced. The TAC Office announced that they recently hit the 2000 mission mark. Fun and frolic throughout the fleet, it would seem. Your WC reports, you decide. WING NEWS: I don’t like opening this section with negative things, but recent events compel it. There seems to be some confusion about the communication requirements in Wing IX. Given the recent changes in the Wing, this is perhaps understandable. But let me be VERY clear about this: until the Ship Standing Orders are changed (which may happen), ALL pilots are required to check in with their Squadron Commanders at least one a week. This can be as simple as a ‘hello I’m alive’ message or even a .tfr. In addition, I expect ALL Squadron Commanders to check in with ME once a week (this should be the WSR, but an e-mail at the very least is expected), and the COM expects ME to check in with him at least once a week. The Monthly Self-Evaluation is required from all Wing IX officers as well (myself included). This is a long-standing Wing IX policy, put in place by a man many of you remember as Wing Commander (COL Ricaud; currently haunting the corridors of the M/FRG Phoenix, although he has been spotted lurking around Sword’s corridor). Any problems with this should be addressed using the chain of command (FMs and FLs to their CMDRs, CMDRs to me) and in a polite, constructive manner. RA Zadash and I are currently considering some changes to the SSOs, and if you’d like to be part of this make your ideas known. Not liking these policies is NOT an excuse for not following them. I hope I don’t have to mention this again. Most of you are very good about doing this, even if you don’t agree with it. I appreciate that. It makes all of our ‘lives’ here in the TIE Corps much easier.

PRIORITY BRAVO-TWO: The Wing IX Top Gun competition is underway! The mission was sent out to all Wing pilots, and participation is strongly encouraged. For those of you who may have missed it, we’re using FTIE 114. The Battle Center version does NOT include a .lfd. If you need one, let me know. The winner will be awarded the IS (SW), with the runner-up getting the IS (BW). All scores will be laserless, and will be tabulated on a pilot-by-pilot basis. That means if you want to win, you’ve got to fly. No squadron averages here. Plan on a Wing Top Gun comp being held every month or so (depending on Squadron activities). In addition to the medal, I’d assume that being the Wing Top Gun will give you a leg up on the Pilot of the Month competition held by the COM. This is a tough mission, folks. If you’ve got a hot pilot, you might want to consider having him or her put together a walkthrough or tips sheet for use within your squadron. The Top Gun ends on December 10, so get those scores in!

PRIORITY BRAVO-THREE: The competition to design a banner for the WCO as well as a permanent award plaque ended on November 30. RA Zadash and I have begun the difficult task of judging the entries. All awards will be announced in the next Wing Report. We also hope to be able to post the winning entries.

The test of the WCO points system has been completed. Results are posted at the end of this report. Hammer Squadron won, but Shield came on strong in the second week. I’m sorry to say that my old squadron didn’t even crack the double digits. My thanks to those of you who’ve commented on this, and I’m still open for comments and suggestions. Modifications have been made based on these suggestions, so you’re not wasting an e-mail. If you’ve got any comments, get them in now. Lohr and I want to get these finalized within a week so we can award the plaque at the end of December. The final points table will be published as part of the revised Ship Standing Orders.

DON’T FORGET: MSEs. That includes all self-evaluations by squadron members. If you have any questions, or if your MSE will be late, I need to know NOW. These shouldn’t be too hard if you’ve been keeping up on your ATRs. If someone does something late (after you’ve done your MSE), save it and add it to next month’s report. I don’t have a problem with that. Remember, I was a squadron commander once, too (nine months in Spear). “I feel your pain.” [slapped by General Steve the Cricket Bat for quoting Bill Clinton]

One final note: CHEATING! DON’T DO IT! It’s been proven to cause acne in lab rats, as well as a really bad rash once the chain of command gets done chewing on your backside. It’s also a one-way ticket OUT of Wing IX. We will not cheat, nor tolerate those among us who do.
