WING REPORT #21
Wing IX, ISD Relentless
“The Fighting Ninth”

TIE CORPS NEWS: The BGCOM is also holding a competition to come up with a new motto and nickname for the Battlegroups. You get bonus points if you design a graphic to go with your idea. All submissions and/or questions should be directed to AD Mell. Imperial Storm III is also looming close on the horizon. This looks to be a big event, so keep your eyes open for more information about this one. The SO is back from leave. Your WC reports, you decide. For the latest information, check out http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp.

WING NEWS: Once again it’s MSE time! CM Neko has already gotten me Spear’s, but I need them from the other Squadrons as well. According to the new BG policy, I need these on my desk no later than the second of every month. Look at it this way: the sooner you get them to me, the sooner I quit bugging you and the sooner your award and promotion recommendations can be processed.

Our numbers have slipped again due to RL activities taking their toll. Trow has stepped down as Sword CMDR due to pressing school needs. Join me in wishing him well and hoping that he’ll be able to rejoin our ranks as soon as possible. I’ve already got his replacement in mind, but this also ties back into recruiting. We need to get our numbers back up. Hopefully we’ll be getting some new SLs sometime from the Daedalus, but we can’t rely on that source forever.

Now that Easter’s come and gone, I’m sure some of you are looking for things to do TC-wise. Don’t despair! Work with your CMDR to set up an outside competition. Post something to the Wing mailing list, even if it’s just saying hi! Add to the run-on. And, most importantly, RECRUIT! FO regulations forbid spamming the Daedalus or recruiting from active units, and I don’t want to even hear a rumor about any of my people doing this. Just because some other units may do it doesn’t make it right. But maybe you know someone in the Reserves who’s thinking about coming back. Or have a friend that you play XWA or XvT with online. See if they’re interested in joining the TC and Wing IX. I know we’re a TIE platform, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t take part in MP activities. Or that we can’t run an occasional competition that uses XWA or XvT missions. Variety is good: it shakes us out of routine and opens up new challenges and accomplishments.

On a related note, I had an article appear in the last NL dealing with medals and promotions. If you want to see what I think of both topics, take a look at it. If you’re a CMDR (or looking to be one) it should help you understand how the system for rewarding people SHOULD work. If you can’t get at it through the NL (this issue is kinda hard to get at), let me know and I’ll send you a copy of the article.

One final note: CHEATING! DON’T DO IT! That kind of conduct is beneath the spirit, honor, and dignity of this Wing. It’s also a one-way ticket OUT of Wing IX and an appearance in front of the HCI. We will not cheat, nor tolerate those among us who do.

SQUADRON ACTIVITIES: Activity continues to be low, and I’m starting to get a bit concerned about it. Next month we should be having a Wing-on-Wing comp with Wing X, in addition to the Imperial Storm stuff. I’d like to issue a challenge to each pilot in the Wing: Fly at least ONE battle this week. Not a Free Mission, but a Battle. I’ll be doing it, even thought I’ve been reduced to using TIE disk (at least until payday and the tax refund shows up so I can ditch this crappy computer and get an AMD). Like anything else, activity is a habit. It’s an easy one to get out of, but it’s also easy to get back into the habit. We ALL need to do our part to get back into that habit. I’m expecting our veterans to lead the way here. If you can’t fly TIE, fly XvT or XWA. There are also two new IWATS courses…why not take one (or both) of them?

And while we’re talking about IWATS: if you want to be a CMDR or an XO in this Wing, you need to take SM/2. I’d also like to see everyone take the basic TIE Tactics course (if you haven’t already done so), and perhaps XvT Tactics as well. They don’t have one for XWA, but the XvT stuff seems to work there, too.

Finally…the WCO! It was a close one, but Hammer managed to take the title for the fourth straight month. Only fourteen points separated Hammer and Sword. Just think…if Sword had been involved in just one more competition (2 points) and 100% of its members flew the mission (+4 bonus points in addition to the 8 points for the mission if it’s flown by eight pilots), they would have tied. If Sword had won their competition, they would have dethroned Hammer. The question remains: who will be the first Squadron to take the crown from Hammer?

Sword: Working on a Top Gun.

Crossbow: Still recruiting. But no one seems to be flying.

Spear: Setting up an outside competition.

Hammer: No current comps. Much talk about a citation run, though. Basking in the glory of their fourth straight WCO.

Shield: Just finished taking on Tempest Squadron.
