Introduction
------------------
Wing III has seen quite a lot of flying activity this week - it's mostly focused on a few people
though. I'm sure everyone would enjoy a battle from time to time. You don't have to go crazy and fly
hundreds of missions, like CM Loor did (I don't want to discourage that behaviour though ;), but
something every week should be enjoyable... In the end I believe most of you joined to play that cool
Star Wars starfighter simulation game called X-Wing Alliance a bit longer. You've the possibility to
do that now!

Wing III News

- ImpStorm II news:
The Silver Saber fleet won against the TF Flaming Arrow in the second battle for Valkier! Whoohoo!
Unfortunately we lost an ISD, ESC, INT and several fighters during the first battle, so our victory
isn't all that grand. However - TF Flaming Arrow suffered more losses and we won in the end, which is
something to be happy about! Goooooooo Sov! :)
- The hard working and extremely dedicated LT Arcanian Stirner of Aleth Squadron has been promoted to
LCM for his great performance over the last months! Congratulations, Lieutenant Commander! Drinks are
on you :)
- I'll be going on leave from tomorrow (10th) until next Tuesday (17th). MAJ Jahan Kalar will be
responsible for the Wing during my short absence... I'll be taking Ferret with me, so you'll only be
at the mercy of Jahan and maybe his new assistant (?). Cheer up!
- The SovTopGun results have been revised, nothing was changed about the XWA part though - here are
the updated TIE results:

- The FCHG competition ended yesterday and MAJ Osan'gar will release the results soon. It looks as if
CM Loor will win, since he seems to be the only one who was able to incease his/her FCHG score by more
than 130 points in only two weeks! Great work, Loor! Thanks go to Osan'gar for organizing the comp and
keeping everyone updated with the current scores.
- Gimel Squadron is about to be reopened! I'll be making my choices today and - in case everything
works - should be open by the time I get back!
- The multi-category competition "Summer Bash" has *finally* been approved by the TO, so we can start
with it now! Here is how it works:
The competition consists of two phases. During the first phase of one week everyone will email me and
say in which of the following categories you'd like to participate. You can select as many or as few
as you want, but you will not be able to participate somewhere where you didn't announce you would. On
the other hand you will get penalties if you don't participate in a category you said you would
participate in.
These are the 6 available categories:
- fiction
- flying
- graphics
- web/url hunt
- trivia
- mission design
The second phase will be 3 weeks long and will allow everyone to participate in their chosen
categories. The winner of each will then recieve an IS-BR (-BW for flying). Ficton, graphics and
mission design will be judged by the Wing III commanders, myself and possibly other flag officers from
all over the Sov ;)
Apart from the medal, the winner of each category also recieves 5 points, the runner up 4 points, the
third place 3 points and so on until the 5th, who gets one point. If someone doesn't manage to
participate in a category he/she announced to participate in earlier, two points will be substracted
from the individual score. The person who collected the highest amount of points will be declared the
winner of the Summer Bash, recieve some flowers and a brand new Iron Star with Silver Wings! The
runner up will get an IS-SR and the third overall will recieve an IS-BW.
When everything's over results will be calculated for each squadron, to see who did best during the
competition and squadrons may get an CRR increase depending on the participation. If one squadron gets
a significantly better result than the others, this squadron is also very likely to be chosen as the
Wing Commander's own for that month... we'll see :)
The first phase starts today and will last until next Tuesday (17th), so start emailing me now! -
Remember, difficult categories, like mission design or fiction will very likely have fewer
participants which gives you a bigger chance to earn points there! Lead your squadron to victory by
collecting the most points!
- My time was again somewhat limited on Sunday and I couldn't stay for the whole duration of our
weekly IRC meeting which is held in #wing_iii on Undernet at 6 pm GMT / 1 pm EST every Sunday.. From
what I remember, there was a good attendance though and triva was held by CPT Cal Sinis as usually. LT
Craydon Bash of Beth Squadron won it this time and LT Syntax of Daleth Squadron came in second.

In summary, ships from TF Flaming Arrow completely crushed the opposing Silver Saber forces, for whom
the most notable loss was the Regulator, an ImpStar Deuce. TF Flaming Arrow will take control of
Valkier at the end of Turn IV.
In other ImpStorm news, TF Doom has captured two more planets: Strall and Golst. Including Firixon,
this brings their total up to 3 held worlds.
The battle was a success, with a great turnout (the highest number of people was about 57). Many
thanks to all those who attended, and helped. My apologies to those of you who didn't get the
opportunity to fly, but there will be more chances in the very near future :)
