 Wing News
 NEW! - Enhanced Colossus Reports
This week I have been a little busy updating and uploading all my previous reports in HTML format to the database. You can read  previous weeks reports at http://www.tiecorps.org/reports/tcreports.asp?wingid=8 It doesn't stop there however. I am working on  doing an enhanced weekly wing report in HTML. This (mailed) report will therefore be the simpler version, the online system going  more in-depth. (He says after doing all that relevant news :P)

Nu Graphics competition (forgive the pun :P)
Darknyte wants a new Nu graphic and has thrown open the competition to all of the wing. He wants it to be roughly the same size as  the one they have at the moment. The closing date for this competition isn't far away at May 7th and the winner will be awarded an  IS-SR by me! Submissions need to be in JPEG format.

 Colossus Pilots reigning supreme..
This week Darknyte passed into the FCHG rank of Paladin in only his second month aboard. Night Grue is second only to  Mini-Minkus on the high score list. Our pilots are the best around!!

 New poll available
Darknyte has done a poll on the Egroup. Find out what's the Colossus's favourite SW Flick.. Vote today!

 Reviews
 Egroups
Devlin revealed TPM characters reactions to the question "Why did the chicken cross the road?", Someone called Drake revealed some  interesting points about the forthcoming UK Census, A couple of graphics from Night Grue and Kodiak Kereban were banded about.  During this week I made all commanders moderators of the Egroup. They are in charge of adding their pilots to that list themselves.

 IRC

It's good to see a lot of newer faces on IRC this week, A lot of chat has been going on too.. I passed 30,000 words but am not catching  Darknyte one bit. Mell, Kyle Katarn and Absolut Vodka are closing in on me..
Some strange conversations this week.. Darknyte revealed he was a member of Mensa, until he quit which prompted me and Mell to  go and find some online tests. I have nothing to prove however, I'm already a member :P
Me and new recruit Zeratul had an argument over Starcraft. 80 Carriers..Possible?.. He says no, I say Yes (I know cos i've used that  against my brother)

Quote of the week comes from RA Mell
<`M> you knnow me, i'm not dumb
Oh really? So how come you can't spell 'Know' :P

 Message Boards
 Not much activity :(

 Colossus Website
Not much going on.. Though it appears to be a funky purple now..

 Academics
Only 4 courses passed by Colossus Crew this week...
Owen Nivarian ICQ
McCrae   Tie Mission Creation
Kodiak Kereban Tie Mission Creation
Trideo Arkson Tie Tactics
Are we running out of things to take tests on?

 BSF's
Some of you may remember how awful the flying was last week, This week we have done even worse. Some of you have got it into  your heads that I like tonnes of BSF's hitting my inbox. Well let me tell you, It's not funny, It's not clever.. SO KEEP DOING IT!! :P
Right up until friday, It didn't look like anyone else apart from CM Absolut Vodka was doing anything, then a swarm of BSF's hit my  inbox. A swarm is probably the wrong word.. Lets try an avalanche!
No fewer than 148 BSF's went through my inbox this week! which puts us on 298 for the month. We have smashed last months total  with a week to spare. If we have another week just like this week we'll be on 400 by the end of the month!!
Just to put that in perspective thats THREE for every pilot aboard!

 Top Five Pilots

1st  CM Absolut Vodka  (Mu Squadron)  29 BSF's
2nd  CM Wap Eal  (Eta Squadron)  28 BSF's
3rd  LCM Andrew Strinder  (Eta Squadron)  15 BSF's
=4th  LT Kodiak Kereban  (Nu Squadron)  10 BSF's
=4th  CPT Owen Nivarian  (Pi Squadron)  10 BSF's
=4th  LT Daniel Klivian  (Mu Squadron)  10 BSF's

Once again Double Figures were required to get on the Top 5 List. CM Absolut Vodka has been  flying like mad recently, as has CM Wap Eal and equal fourth placed CPT Owen Nivarian. Others  that deserve a mention that didn't get on this list were Alain Dindareanu (7), Darknyte (7) Kyle  Katarn (6) and Night Grue (5) All of these pilots did their squadrons proud, even if it was one of  those strange weeks.

 Winner of
Pilot of the Week? CM Absolut Vodka gets the nod because of his all round general  activity, Not just is out-standing flight skills.

  Top Squadron

This was a lot closer to call. Eta have been top for some weeks now, Would they still be top dogs?

 1st  ETA SQUADRON  58 BSF's
 2nd  Mu Squadron  50 BSF's
 3rd  Nu Squadron  19 BSF's
 4th  Pi Squadron  18 BSF's
 5th  Omicron Squadron  3 BSF's

Eta hold top spot once more but were pushed all the way by Mu. The fast-improving Pi lose out by  1 to Nu, who are hungry to get back to the top. As for Omicron.. If you do double figures next week  I'll give you Squadron of the Week!

 Squadron Summaries

Mu Squadron have been working hard to prove they were more than a training ground for Darknyte. So far it's working as the  dramatic rise in BSF's shows. CM Absolut Vodka is doing a fantastic job, as is CM Kyle Katarn his understudy. They lost two pilots this  week, LCM Kalve Ryder left for the reserves and CM Bradtack got the commanders job at Nun Squadron, but it didn't stop them  being the most-improved squadron aboard this week. They are my pick as Squadron of the Week!

Nu Squadron's commander, CM Darknyte made a bo-bo this week by sending his report out in pure HTML. My client (Outlook  Express) showed it exactly as it was written! However, I did manage to read his online report. Nu are placing the building blocks to  become a more consistent squadron. The talent is there, the passion and commitment needs to be improved. LT McCrea is working  on their new website, and looking at his INPR I eagerly await the results..

Pi Squadron has improved immensely since the arrival back of both CPT Owen Nivarian and MAJ Zystem Fryar. Both are  determined to push Pi back to the top. Certain pilots are holding them back and unfortunently, it's the most experienced ones. A squadron  wide AWOL Check is in force, Pi need to get rid of the dead-weight before bringing in fresh blood.

Omicron Squadron unfortunently lost to Dagger squadron and CM Daniel Stephens is working hard to restore Omicron to it's former  glory. You new guys must have seen Eta and Mu's (and to a lesser extent Nu and Pi) achievements by now. Lets see you give it all  you've got next week!

I was extremely tempted to give the Squadron of the Week award yet again to Eta Squadron, but decided against it because..well  basically no-one likes a show off :P Eta are the Battlegroup Squadron of the Month and the Wing Commander's Own ...
Their two new recruits need to become active for the squadron to start to dominate everywhere. Night Grue is a graphical genius,
as his  hallway graphic for the forthcoming Eta website proves.

 Miscellanous
 The 'Manchester United' Principle
Ever since I took this job I have been figuring out ways to make better pilots that remain active who have the determination to  succeed at the highest level and the loyalty to the cause while getting there. This week I had a revelation which I like to call the Manchester United Principle.

I know what your thinking, "What the hell is he talking about?" or "Man U? Erggh!".. Manchester United being the English football team  that has dominated preceedings throughout the nineties and look set to keep doing so for many seasons to come. To be honest, (Being a  Tottenham Fan) I don't particularly like them either but just take a look for a moment without bias at the way they do things.

Most of their team is brought up through the ranks and have been installed with a passion and commitment to club to the extent that  they don't want to leave it and would rather be a sub than play for anyone else. Look at Ole Gunnar Solksjear, He could walk into any first  team of any team in the country, but he doesn't.. He's happy to sit on the bench and be a bit-part player in the greater scheme of things.  They all have it, heck even David Beckham was left out of several crucial matches this week.

Not only do they have that but they also have bags and bags of skill. They are determined to improve their game no matter the cost and  will spend hours upon hours on the training ground practising the very-same moves over and over again. David Beckham spends hours  practicing crosses and free-kicks, Result? He's the best crosser and set-piece specialist in the world.

Then of course you have the reknowned leadership within their ranks and their strength and depth. Roy Keane is club captain, but in  reality they play with 11 captains, week in, week out because every player knows that if he doesn't perform, he'll get replaced with an  equally-good player for the next match. They go out to win every match because their place in the team is at stake.

And lastly they have the desire to win everything going. Right through from the Champions league to the Premier League to the
FA Cup. Even the kids they play for the League Cup ties are out there because they want to win it.

That strikes me as a damn fine way to run a football club..

 Wing Commander's Leave
I *hope* to be going on holiday during the last week of May/ First week of June. Consider this a pre-warning. Mell will be in  charge of wing operations until I come back to repair what damage he did :P
