WC/MAJ Proton reporting on 1-20-01 for Wing V aboard the SSSD Sovereign:

"Urghh," Major Proton sighed, flexing his writing hand. He dunked the aching limb into a desk-side container of bacta.
"All these new sublieutenants. All these transfers ... the paperwork this week has been amazing," Proton said, nodding to one of his personal assistants, Leroy the jawa. The chittering Leroy retrieved from the WC's desktop a huge sheaf of Imperial dossiers and assignment documents for return to storage at the Flight Office. Snippy already had transmitted the electronic documents.
Proton stretched back in his comfy chair (not as comfortable as Wing II WC/LC Inkwolf's, but very close >:) ), flexed his muscles and gazed through the sweeping viewport in the rear of his office. Forty-five TIEs, Missile Boats and Assault Gunboats shot from the SSSD Sovereign hangar bay in tight formations, all bearing the distinctive emblem of Wing V.
Another demanding training mission of Wing V was under way.
Proton jumped to his feet, waving in dismissal to his three assistants as he headed toward his personal craft, TIE Fighter Desperate, to begin supervision and monitoring of his wing's training.
Dude, the massive Tusken raider, displayed a jagged, toothy grin and exchanged low-fives with Leroy and Snippy. Their new home in Wing V was a good one, indeed.

WING NEWS AND STATUS
- Wing V January contest: Fly TC-TIE Battle 157, Operation Zupa. Winner will receive a PC and the runnerup will get an ISM. Pilot files are due to CMDRs by Jan. 29, to me by midnight Jan. 30. All necessary files can be downloaded from the Wing V page.
- A reminder after last week's announcement: Continuing the Wing V Chronicles activity! Sadhe Squadron's Adventures serve as the first element of what hopefully will be a long-running fictional exercise for the wing. See the attachment, and get creative! CMDRs, please gauge interest and organize contributions from your squadrons. Once all squadrons have made significant contributions to the Chronicles, awards will be determined and the entire project will be submitted to the EH and TC newsletters.
- Coming in February: An expanded version of the monthly Wing V contest. The competition will include flight, mission creation, graphics, fiction and recruiting categories. Details to come Jan. 31.
- The Wing V site is getting out of date but I plan a thorough update sometime this week.
MISCELLANEOUS
- FO/AD Theodore reports: Also, following discussion with the Flag Officers of the tie Corps about how best to keep the Flight Office in close touch with the various Wings, I am adding a Command Attaché to serve primarily as a liaison to the Wings. This officer will receive ALL ship and wing reports and should be the first person people go to when they need general (not
administrative) help from the Flight Office. I had many excellent applications and would like to thank all who applied, but as they say there can be only one. That one will be... none other than ASF BGCOM Admiral Priyum Patel (spellfire@btinternet.com).
- AD Priyum Patel reports: A couple of days ago, Admiral Theo decided to reintroduce the
TCCOM's Award, which hasn't been awarded since COL Kessler stepped down as FO. For those of you not familiar with this, its essentially similar to the Commodore/Wing Commander's Own. It goes to one Ship (or Sovereign/Avenger Wing) at the end of every month, decided by the TCCOM, and is announced in the FO's report and on the TC domain. There are no set criteria for earning this
award - it won't necessarily go to the Wing thats processed the most pilot files or won the most competitions in the past month (although these will still be factors). We'll be looking for Wings that have shown inspired activity, communication and improvement - that have, in one way or another, excelled above their normal level. You CAN nominate your Wing for the award if you so wish, but you must provide decent reasons as to why you think you deserve the award. The
TCCOM Award will start being awarded from the end of this month.
- AD Priyum Patel reports: One of my major duties as the FO's Command Attaché is to work
with the Flags in helping to improve Wings & Squadrons. This means that if
you have a problem, or you want support for an idea you have - even if you
want to bug someone about getting your Wing/Ship some recognition, then you can
tell me - its why I'm here. Feel free to email me anytime, and I'll do my best
to help you.
- FA Kramer reports: Every month I review squadrons for the COM's Own award, and most of the time
I withhold it for one reason or another. This month, I was going to award it to Sigma Squadron of Wing II, but decided that the continued level of excellence the pilots of Sigma exhibit deserves a higher honor than COM's Own. After consultation with LC Inkwolf, I've decided to name Sigma the official escort squadron of the Sov Flag Officers for the first quarter of the year.
Congratulations to all Sigmans (?) on a job VERY well done!!

- XO/HA Kawolski reports: The Iron Star used to be a medal that was awarded for winning a Training Office competition. This medal was so rare that there are more people who earned the Imperial Cross than those that earned the Iron Star. The new Iron Star is now the
new "Distinguished Flying Cross" type medal for single player competitions.
The Iron Star, much like the old Medal of Communications, is split up into several add-ons. Each add-on is made out of a unique metal and worth FCHG points.
Iron Star - Copper Ribbon [IS-CR] (1 pt.) - Awarded for
winning a squadron/task unit competition or for being a participating
winner (member of a winning squadron) of a Gold Ribbon/Platinum Ribbon
sized competition
Iron Star - Nickel Ribbon [IS-NR] (0 pts.) - For winning a
wing/task force competition (involving 4 or more squadrons/task units)
for a non-flying activity.
Iron Star - Bronze Ribbon [IS-BR] (3 pts.) - For winning a
wing/task force competition (involving 4 or more squadrons/task units)
Iron Star - Silver Ribbon [IS-SR] (0 pts.) - For winning a
ship/task force or fleet-wide competition (involving 3 or more
wings/task forces) for a non-flying activity.
Iron Star - Gold Ribbon [IS-GR] (5 pts.) - For winning a
ship/task force (involving 3 or more wings/task forces)
Iron Star - Platinum Ribbon [IS-PR] (10 pts.) - For winning a
fleet-wide competition (must be awarded personally by the Training
Officer)
Non-flying activities include, but are not limited to, trivia, fiction,
mission designing, and graphics competitions. As with merit medals, these
medals are for TO-approved competitions only.
All current Iron Star holders now hold the highest Iron Star, the
IS-PR, and gain 10 FCHG points for every one they have in their
possession. The Iron Star medal changes will not be required to take
effect in competitions currently running or already approved by the
Training Officer where a merit medal is awarded, but all new competitions
may not use a merit medal as an award.
If you want to exchange some of your competition-earned merit medals
for the appropriate Iron Stars (based on the honor system here), contact
the Operations Officer Fleet Admiral Howlader with your request.

channels, and gotten the Sov's profile changed from "Aurora Home Guard" to "Patrol
and Peacekeeping - EH Territories." Finally, we'll get to stretch our legs.
