Wing III News and Orders
-------------------------------------

- First off, I'd like to take this opportunity to offer a big Wing III 'Welcome Back' to LT Matt Dabbs!

- Well, probably the biggest piece of news this week was the virus which caused the Aleth mailing list to go haywire and keep sending out the Wing III report OVER and OVER and OVER. Since I'm so stubborn, I refused to block Jaster's e-mail address and, as a result, I received my own report well over 4000 times. But thankfully, Jaster has cleared the virus from his system and everything is returning to normal. Now all we need to do is rebuild the Aleth mailing list, and track down and kill the Rebel scum who invented that annoying virus.

- Combat Run #2 of the XWA League has come to a close, and here's how Wing III stacked up to the rest of the fleet :

Ranger Squadron - 71449
Demon Squadron - 45764
Falcon Squadron - 45441
Beth Squadron - 36106
Daleth Squadron - 32609
Ghost Squadron - 24957
Aleth Squadron - 19679
Avenger Squadron - 17724
Hey Squadron - 14420
Typhoon Squadron - 5603
Valkyrie Squadron - 724
Odin Squadron - 12

As you can see, Ranger continues to pull away with the lead, only now Demon and Falcon are going with them. All this means is that we need to redouble our efforts!

- Combat Run #3 for the XWA is ACTIVE!!! All pilots should fly FREE-XWA #12 and get it to your CMDR by February 15th! So gentlemen, get your cockpits!

- If that's not enough to keep you busy, remember that a new Training Office competition has begun :

Plot Comp

It's all pretty simple. Merely outline the plot
for the next competition from the Training Office. You
can be as detailed as you want.

Prize
Winner gets an Iron Star - Silver Ribbon

Format
Submissions can be in either plain text, Rich Text
(RTF), HTML or Word 97.

Submitting
Entries should be sent to
plotcomp@imperialacademy.org with the subject line
Plot Competition.
Make sure you include your ID line. Entries with
incorrect subject lines, no ID line or not submitted
in the formats outlined above will be deleted.

Deadline
You have until 17th of February.

- What's that you say? Still not enough to keep you interested? Then be sure to check out the following report from LC Ford Prefect :

Hail, fellow officers!
TIE pilots: Are you tired of seeing multi-player comp after multi-player comp
come and go, staring at your lonely copy of single-player TIE, wishing you
could tear the internal organs out of another hotshot in
space combat?
Multiplayer pilots: Own TIE? Want to show all those single-player braggarts
who's daddy?
Then we have a comp for you! Introducting...Saturday Night Fever!
A TIE competition based on multiplayer format, SNF is a bi-weekly event,
happening in the IRC channel of #airlock54. From 2 - 10 CST (pm), duel fellow
pilots in free missions and battles of your choosing!
Stay the whole night and smack down all comers, or duke it out with a
particular foe or friend to show who's boss!
Not only do you get bragging rights and FCHG points for participating, but
awards for top-notch flying are also available!
For more information about rules and such, check out the official Saturday
Night Fever website, located at
http://www.saturdaynightfever.f2s.com/splash.html!
The first competition will be held on February 10th! Be there or be a
transvestite Ewok!

- Jaster is currently in talks to begin an Aleth vs. Phantom competition, which I'm sure Aleth is going to win ;-)

- Beth vs. Phoenix is now active, so all Beth pilots should fly TC-XWA #7!

- CMDR/LC Daniel Kamprath changed his e-mail address to d_kamprath@t-online.de ... be sure to update your address book.

- LC Sequoh Marden is on leave until February 14th, and he has appointed CM Cal Sinis as ACMDR for Beth during his absence. By the way Cal, don't forget to forward this report to Beth Squadron!

- HA Kawolski continues to refine the Iron Star system. Here's the latest news as found on the TC message board (special thanks to LC Inkwolf for the report) :

Ok, here's something I came up to smooth over the
IS system:

Iron Star - [Medal Type] Wings (Flying competitions)
Iron Star - [Medal Type] Ribbon (Non-flying competitions)

The medal types are Bronze, Silver, Gold, and
Platnium. (No more Copper or Nickel)

Bronze - Competition involving at least 6 pilots,
2nd place where a Silver IS is awarded, 3rd place/participating
award where a Gold or Platnium IS is awarded

Silver - Wing competition involving 4 or more
squadrons or task units, 2nd place where a Gold or
Platnium IS is
awarded

Gold - Ship competition involving 3 or more
wings/task forces.

Platnium - Fleet competition, medal only awarded
by the Training Officer.

For multi-part competitions, at the Training
Office and Operation Office's discretion, you can
award an IS for
each part.

The Wings have FCHG points attached to them while
Ribbons do not.

- The Ghost vs. Daleth Squadron competition will go live tomorrow, so all Daleth pilots should fly FREE-XWA #24 and get it in to Dan before Feburary 17th!

- And don't forget, Hey vs. Falcon is still active, and using the same mission as XWA CR#3. All Hey pilots ... get flying!

- Construction on the Wing III webpage still continues, although slower than I would like. And for those interested, the Sovereign Research Project is not dead, and should be moving into 'phase two' within the next week or so ;-)

Wing III Quote of the Week
---------------------------------------

"Everyone please welcome him [LT Matt Dabbs] ... and remember he's *not* a new SL you may use as a slave for cleaning your ships, tidying up your rooms and buying drinks." -- Sequoh takes all the fun out of having a new pilot in Beth

Other notable quotes this week :

"Oh dear, Sas has never had a Yorkie :(
For those of you who don't know, a Yorkie is a thick and very chunky chocolate bar. It must be a British only bar if none of you have actually had one.
All I can say is that
1. They taste really good, AND
2. They are so big they can double up as a weapon" -- CM Osan'gar answers last weeks question concerning the nature of the fabled "Yorkie"

"BTW Os, I've got a patent pending on the Yorkie/weapon thing, so don't even try it." -- AD Priyum Patel is also familar with The Yorkie ...

"Then I declare the Rat Pack the champions!" -- COM/FA Kramer responds to the EH Command Staff (The 'Dark Angels') when they said they don't have the time to challenge the Sov's 'Rat Pack'

"I think they had a few choice words about the Rat Pack, but I don't think 'champions' was one of them." -- XO Kawolski responds on behalf of the Angels

"Put up or shut up, pal." -- FA Kramer must have really wanted that competition, as he risks being thrown into Kawolski's pit (or whatever K uses to torture people) ...

"This past week has seen an uncommonly large number of Flag Officer appointments. The reason? Who knows, but I'm sure crop circles are involved somehow..." -- AD Priyum in the Flight Office report. It's nothing we hadn't already suspected ...

"hmm. Don't know what to put here this week. Just nothing Miscy happened." -- Found in the "Misc." section of the Beth Squadron report!

Misc.
--------

- New section! Let it be known that your WC is an e-shopper. I'd say that at least 50% of the stuff I buy comes from online, and I'm going to begin a "Product Spotlight" in the reports to bring your attention to some of the cool stuff that's available to you! It may not be necessary to continue living, but it will make your life all that much more enjoyable.
This week, it's one of my personal favorites : The TIE Fighter Pilot's helmet by Don Post. Definately one of the coolest items you can get. What we have here is a life-sized helmet, one size fits all (and I mean ALL), made from the same molds that were used to make the helmets that we see 'actual' TIE pilots wearing in the movies. Looks absolutely incredible; just put it on the shelf (or hang it on your hat rack) and wait for your friends to tell you how cool it is. Available at most fine online novelty retailers. The 'collectors' edition retails for about $60.00, while the deluxe (which has actual metal and padding on the inside) goes for $100.00+. I recommend that you get yours the same way I got mine -- find it on Ebay and get it for half price. To that end, I am providing the following link :

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=554202475

- This week's discussion topic : Where do 'discussion topics' come from? Is there a stork involved?

- Coming soon to a viewscreen near you : "Temptation Daedalus"! What happens when a handful of romantic couples are marooned on the TIE Corps training platform with several attractive Imperial officers of the opposite sex? I don't know either, but you can bet that the Fox network will be there to broadcast it.

Okay, that does it for this week. Until next we meet ... fly high and watch your six!
