WING V REPORT 8

WC/MAJ Proton reporting on 12-9-00 for Wing V aboard the SSSD Sovereign:

WELCOME

The sonic blowtorch crackled and spewed sparks as its active tip touched the junction of Snippy's lower right appendage. Jaded Strumpet bit her lip in concentration as she re-attached Snippy's recovered appendage to the spunky military surplus probe droid.

Candyland, Major Proton's third assistant, nodded appreciatively as Strumpet finished her expert repair job. The assembled Wing V squadron commanders smiled and guzzled Corellian ale, enjoying the respite from training that the wing commander had granted them to observe the droid's restoration.

The CMDRs, female assistants and even Snippy jumped in surprise as Proton silently and suddenly emerged from the shadows of his office. The disturbing phenomenon of flames briefly shooting from his Dark Jedi eyes unnerved the others.

"Continue, my loyal officers and assistants," Proton said, breaking into a sinister grin and slamming down a fresh case of ale. "I have been elevated to the rank of Sith Warrior and am now the quaestor of House Tridens of Clan Tarentum. Thus, I am, today anyway, in a good mood."

The Wing V command team as one smiled nervously and took long pulls on their overflowing ale tumblers.

- CMDRs, make sure all pilots get a copy of this report each week.

- I'm adopting for wing use the Standing Orders section LC Gen Es'mith imposes on Aylin:
Standing Orders -
1. It is required for assigned personnel to respond to their CMDRs to official emails. These include squadron weekly reports and mission assignments. It is also considered good form to reply in short form to ALL messages. A short "Message Received" statement would be wonderful.
2. If you find yourself in the position of being unable to fly, email or otherwise remain active, please consider going to the reserves. This prevents you being declared AWOL and having to start ALL OVER AGAIN with a new persona when you are finally able to become more active.

WING NEWS AND STATUS

- Wing V December contest under way. Fly TC-TIE Free Mission 138, Battlecry One. Laserless scoring. Files due to CMDRs by Dec. 30, to me by the end of Dec. 31.

- Sovereign League 2000 playoffs: Awaiting results of quarterfinals to see whether Nun will advance.

- New Samekh homepage: http://www.crosswinds.net/~samekh/samekh.htm
New Samekh message board: http://www.sitepowerup.com/mb/view.asp?BoardID=126115

- Nun "fly till you drop" competition. Through Dec. 17, most missions flown wins award. Most other squadrons also have ongoing comps, including Mem flying the dreaded TIE-FM66 (argh!).

- Sovereign Chronicles. Standr by for an announcement this week of a project I am trying to launch. It will be called the Sovereign Chronicles, and all pilots aboard the Sov will be invited to participate in run-ons. I intend to host these on a Web page and also possibly may set up an e-mail list for the Chronicles. I am excited about this project, because I have seen a good run-on, and wild e-mail chains, dramatically improve activity and camaraderie.

MISCELLANEOUS

- SSSD Sovereign and SSD Avenger tied for first in the "EH's best ship" poll with 61 votes apiece out of more than 315 cast.

- AD Kermee reports: The TIE Dragon patch for XWA has been updated with more appropriate stats & an automated install program. It is now available from the Science Office: http://sco.ehnet.org/patch.php

- Reminder from FA Astatine: Full TC training manual at http://www.imperialacademy.org/manual/manual.zip, 200k

- SA Kawolski reports: If you want to see your profile online, there's a new shortcut to it! Just use your TIE Corps PIN instead of "www"! For example, my PIN is #691. So if I wanted to look at my record, I would go to http://691.tiecorps.org/ Try it with yours!
Also, if you want to look at a squadron roster, you can put the squadron name then .squadron.tiecorps.org to take you right to the squadron's roster. For example, if I wanted to look at Alpha squadron, I would go to http://alpha.squadron.tiecorps.org and it would display Alpha Squadron's roster.

- MAJ Archon reports: The Star Wars Mod for Homeworld is now at Beta 4.2. I really suggest you Homeworld players check it out. All of the models are done, and it looks extremely impressive. Not all the ships from Homeworld are implemented, so there's less ships and less research. All in all, though, this looks to be a whole new side of Homeworld. http://www.strategyplanet.com/homeworld/zeelich/

- LC Inkwolf, TC Mac guru, reports: The Icon Factory has released a set of desktop icons based on the Star Wars Lego characters! (Macintosh only, sorry!) You can download them or see the incredibly cute preview at http://www.iconfactory.com/Preview.asp?type=search&id=2&query=starwars. Macupdate shows more of the Lego characters at http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/3539
The Icon Factory has several other sets of Star Wars icons as well. http://www.iconfactory.com/SearchListing.asp?searchid=3760&query=starwars
In other news, a hack utility for Star Wars Racer has been made and is available for download from Macupdate.com. The hack allows you to eliminate sound, background, textures, etc, making it possible to play Racer on older machines. It says "Use at your own risk" on the file description: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4150
There is also an application available to convert Mac icons to Wintel, in case any PC people are dying to get their hands on the Lego icons--Iconshop 1.14 at http://users.pandora.be/liontech/

- New Infiltrator Wing commander is SA Pappy Renegade.

- IW has a new domain up, www.infiltratorwing.net.

ORATORS OF AIRLOCK 21

"Well, one thing to remember is Aylin Squadron is in possession of a captive Rebel Assault Cat, that I rarely feed (at least in his opinion). But most importantly Henri has been rescued and doesn't need to "see" hamsters in order to remove the unique rodentness of their activity." -LC Gen Es'mith

"::Giggling and beaming, Jaded Strumpet and Candy Striper pinned the
respective medals to the dress jackets of the now blushing LT's and then escorted them off of the flight deck." -LC Gen Es'mith

"A most excellent site! How much alcohol would you require to assist Aylin in revamping ours??" -LC Gen Es'mith

"Thats right i am 20 today , and the dam insurace on my cars going up :(" -LT Kettch

"Longest COM? Are the other guys short, or what? ;) I think I should go for "Longest Serving Officer In Position" . . . :)" -FA Kramer

"I'd just like to point out that Snippy was trespassing, and Frank was merely doing his duty. Also, the brutal slaying and mutilation of an Assault Hamster (TM) has not gone unnoticed. Poor hamster #3358 ... and he was only two days away from retirement, too." -GN Sasquatch

""Heh, guess it's time to show some of my Wing Commanders what 'Acting like an >officer' is like aboard the Sovereign. *MAJ Proton, report to The Cage for batting practice. GN Sasquatch, report >to DeBriefing Room 28 for questioning. GN Ricardo, report to The Pit for 'Dodgetail.' LC Inkwolf, report to The Tank for feeding (Napoleon is
hungry). LC Joe, report to Crusher for cleaning.*" -FA Kramer

"Longest serving old-as dirt itself pre-palpatine guy who's always been there for us as COM of the SSSD Sov and I hope he always is". >:)" -VA Freelancer (ret.)

"Send all complaints to "Snippy" (It just occured to me how funny that name is after what Frank did to him . . . :)." -FA Kramer

"Arrr me mateys. Ye'd best be votin' for the Sov in the latest EH Poll or I'll be sendin' ye all to Davey Jones' Locker after keelhaulin' ye!!!" -Long Com Kramer

"Messa thinks it might be time for bed. LOL" -CM Wil_Striker

"he congrats i remember on this man ... -gosh i think i was a little SL when he was an LT." -CM Morgan

"All right, you slobs. Now you're in for it. I'm on ICQ, so you'd better behave or I'll have your FCHG stripes!! ICQ# 100761235" -LC Gen Es'mith

"The "Wing V Retirement Plan" ... is this what Candyland and Jaded Strumpet have to look forward to ??? ;-) And keep in mind that Frank wouldn't be NEARLY as psychopathic if he were sober. Booze comes with the job description, and Frank is a work-a-holic." -GN Sasquatch

"I thought YOU said it . . . :\ Guess all those hours watching SW has
finally rotted the old noodle. No cracks, Sas." -FA Kramer

"This is your noodle ... this is your noodle on Star Wars. Any questions?" -GN Sasquatch

"Pit" each Wing Three Squad? Okay, if you say so Sasquatch. *All Wing Three CMDRs report to The Pit by order of GN Sasquatch. FLs remain
on deck. Repeat, all Wing Three CMDRs report to The Pit by order of GN
Sasquatch.* What a great gift you've given me, Sas!!! :)" -FA Kramer

"Sorry guys, but at least a little random torture from the COM will help you to build character ;-)" -GN Sasquatch

"Nooooo! I've already had my regular beating from Frank already.....please! Not the pit!" -LC Sequoh Marden

"This looks funny because i am havin to cut n Paste mi mom took mi keboard i hoPe to get it bak befor sgaud rePort time but i am not sure i can ." -CM Xavier Sienar

"I'm sorry, but where's the ransom demand?" -LC Gen Es'mith

"I doubt he had enough words to compile one to persuade his mom to give him back the keyboard. hehe" -CM Wil_Striker

"Heh, heh....poor guy! Well, at least your CMDR is resourceful! :P" -LC Inkwolf

"Lol! Wow, that's the first time I've ever seen someone that dedicated to report in! Give this guy a medal, Proton ;-)" -GN Sasquatch

-----------(begin attachment)-------------

- Recently, I began a paper that I have dubbed, "The Sovereign Research Project". Details follow :

I'll cut right to the chase ... what I would like to do is to compile a historical document about the creation and the service to date of the SSSD Sovereign and the 'Triad' support platforms. I've noticed that we have lots of numbers and stats about the great ship (courtesy of the Sov homepage and the EH Fleet Manual), but I have yet to ever discover the story behind the creation of the Sov, and the individual officers who were involved, both fictionally and in RL.
What I have in mind is a kind of written documentary that details the life of the mightiest weapon currently in use by the EH. I'd like to mix actual facts with just a bit of creative license (read : very little), and create a document that's equally interesting for the people who already know the story, all the way down to Sub-Lieutenants that have just stepped onto the ship for the first time. With the help of some of the people getting this e-mail, I know we can make that a reality.
I have in mind a project that would proceed in 4 steps :

Phase 1 : Gather Info. Obtain information on EVERYTHING about the Sov from ANYONE who feels like sending it in.

Phase 2 : Verify, step one. Compile the info and have it officially approved, perhaps by the creators of the Fleet Manual. It may even be necessary to have the info verified by the GA himself, if it comes to that. I don't want to print anything that contradicts anything else, or causes someone to think to themself, "Wait ... that isn't right".

Phase 3 : The Drafting Process. This is the real 'meat' of the project, where the history is typed up and polished. Most likely the longest phase, and also the most enjoyable ;-)

Phase 4 : Verification, step two. After a final draft is complete, it will need to be read and verified to become 'official'. I am unsure, but this may again need to pass through the office of the GA.

I am trying to get the project off the ground right now, which puts me squarely in phase 1 ... and that's where you can be the most help!
You should know that one of the major reasons I want to do this is because I don't have much info on the Sov, other than what the websites say, which isn't much. So, I need a huge flood of info to turn up in my inbox. YOU can help in two ways.
First, if you have any info about the Sov, anything at all, feel free to send it my way. Don't worry if you can't remember the source you got it from, or if it seems obscure or unmeaningful ... remember, everything will be verified for authenticity. Just send that info in! And it can be anything. ANYTHING. The name of your old squad CMDR. Perhaps a former Commodore's name (I'd love to try to interview some of those guys). Maybe you're even aware of some of the major pieces of the puzzle, such as who originally had the idea to use a Sov class SSD as the EH's new flag ship. Maybe you can remember when the Avenger was still the flagship. Basically, anything you want to send in WILL be used, if it passes verification by the higher-ups.
Second ... here's the step that can be done by everyone. Be sure to pass on this call for info! You never know who might have a piece of the puzzle floating around in their brain or on their hard drive, so try to distribute this e-mail among other pilots as widely as possible.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated, and all who contribute data or assistance WILL be credited.

So ... that's the idea, and hopefully, this is what I will be working on for the next several weeks. Is this a great idea or a fool's errand? Remember, I'd love to have your feedback.

I've already got some great facts from confirmed sources such as the EH Fleet Manual, the online Star Wars technical commentaries at TheForce.Net, the EH "Imperium" page, a few of the old newsletters, not to mention several 'sourcebooks'. It's hardly surprising that the Sov has had a very interesting life, and I'm very much looking forward to setting it all down on (virtual) paper. I'll keep you all posted.
