Wing III News and Orders
-------------------------------------

- Lots of big news to go over this week, so read carefully and pay attention. First off however, I want to give a big Wing III welcome to our newest members -- Jyris Felth, Stone Cold, Carren, and Jahan Kalar! Jyris and Jahan ... welcome back ;-)
I've credited each of your accounts with a free drink in the cantina, on me. Enjoy!

- Big news this week was the announcement that the Naval Corps will be shutting down for good. GA Ronin and SA Kawolski have discussed the matter at length with key officials both in and out of the NC, and the decision has been made. You can read more about it at TC.ORG ... hopefully, some of those NC pilots will find their way into Wing III ! CPT Carren, if you know any other NC members who need a new home, be sure to sing the praises of our wing ;-)

- Some sad news, here. After an exhausting search that turned up little or no clues, CPT Jaster Sadista has been pronounced MIA and given a ceremonial transfer to the TC Reserves. The last time that anyone saw Jaster, he was departing on what should have been a routine shore leave. New evidence uncovered by Aleth during the search seems to suggest that Jaster was the victim of some kind of Rebel ambush. I remain confident that wherever Jaster is, he is trying his best to return to us. Aleth Squadron will continue to fly the Missing Man formation in their patrols until the end of this week.

- On a happier note, an old Wing III vet has come home! CPT Jahan Kalar has come out of retirement to once again take command of Aleth Squadron. Jahan held the position right before Jaster took over, and I'm sure that Aleth is in very capable hands.

- A little trouble on IRC this week, as an insane escapee from the medical ward managed to take over the #Wing_iii room on IRC and kicked out everyone who should have actually been there. Reports are sketchy, but I'm pretty sure some stormtroopers were called in to put this poor wretch out of his misery (and out of our way).

- Beth Squadron has completed their latest round of Combat Readiness Testing and achieved CRR Level 2, not "two" shabby ;-)

- FO Priyum reports that the next Imperial Storm TC Wargame is on the way! More news as it becomes available.

- Combat Run #5 of the XWA League is still active, and the deadline to fly is tomorrow, the 16th! All pilots should fly FREE-XWA #24, 'Operation Moonbaker', As Soon As Possible!!! CMDRs, be sure to have the scores for your squads in to me by the 17th.

- Remember the competition we have running that lets you bet on the winners of the Sovereign League? Well, it's still active, and as soon as the Sov SL actually ends, I'll get the appropriate award out to the lucky pilot who made the best bet. Just to clarify, here are the pilots that I have bets for :

CMDR/LC Daniel Kamprath (who was a Major when he placed his bet)
FM/LCM Nurel Turr (who is no longer in the wing)
FM/LT Psylocke (who JUST transferred out)
CMDR/LC Sequoh Marden (who is still not sure if this whole thing is legal)
CMDR/CPT Osan'gar (who was a Commander when he placed his bet)
RSV/CPT Jaster Sadista (who was also a Commander at the time, and recently disappeared)

- Okay, time to shake things up. Announcing ... the Wing III Survivor Challenge! Not associated in any way with that OTHER Survivor program on television (okay, maybe just a little bit)!
Here's how it works. Each Wing III Squadron chooses two pilots to become W3 Survivors. Only two. It's up to the CMDR how these pilots are chosen ... they can be 'appointed' by the CMDR, or the squad can be democratic and vote. I'm not asking any questions, just as long as each squad has two pilots that are ready to be subjected to the challenge. Of course, the pilots chosen should be the best, the cream of the crop, the two pilots from your squad that are the MOST ACTIVE.
After we have a full team of eight pilots (two from each squad * four active squads = eight), the fun begins. Each week, a new challenge is listed in the W3 Report for the Survivors to participate in (IF the W3 report is late ... which never happens ... the challenge will still be released on Wednesday nights). The Survivor who wins each challenge gains 'immunity'. During the next Monday and Tuesday, the W3 Survivors submit their votes to me ... they are voting on which Survivor needs to be elimated from competition. The unlucky pilot with the most votes is eliminated from competition. If you have gained immunity for that week, you cannot be voted out. (Sound familar?)
It is in your best interest to get rid of the people who are not participating, because ... get this ... the reward that the winning Survivor recieves at the end will be determined by HOW ACTIVE THE SURVIVORS WERE DURING THE CHALLENGES. If nobody is doing anything, the winner will recieve a very low-caliber medal, probably the Iron Star : Bronze Ribbon. But if people are consistantly active, the winner can actually recieve as high as the Iron Star : Silver Wings! Participation during the challenges by the Survivors will earn a certain amount of points which will be used to determine which medal is awarded at the end, using the following system :

50 pts : Iron Star, Bronze Ribbon
100 pts : Iron Star, Bronze Wings
150 pts : Iron Star, Silver Ribbon
200 pts : Iron Star, Silver Wings

So if some joker isn't doing anything to earn any points and help get the highest medal possible ... then vote him out! The results of the voting will also be announced on Wednesdays. Here is how a typical week will go for our chosen Survivors over the next eight weeks :

Wednesday : The results of the previous weeks voting is announced. One player is eliminated. The new immunity challenge is announced.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday : Participation in the immunity challenge.

Sunday Night : Immunity Challenge results are posted to the Survivors.

Monday, Tuesday : Survivors vote to see which one of them will be eliminated from play.

Wednesday : The results of the previous weeks voting is announced. One player is eliminated. The new immunity challenge is announced.

As you can see, this is not a competition for everyone! It will be grueling, and you will be expected to participate in one mini-competition every week for several weeks to come. And if you fail, you have a good chance of being voted out!
Once we are down to only two survivors, the six previous contestants vote to choose who wins the grand prize and is named the Wing III Survivor ... and who gets runner up.
Contestants are free to communicate among themselves to see who everyone else is voting for, and to form 'alliances' ...

It's not designed to be easy, and the winner will have much honor and glory heaped upon them and their squad, including the right to add the phrase "Wing III Survivor : Pilot with most Endurance" to their ID line; not to mention the medal, which could be either high or low, depending on how things turn out.

Think you have what it takes? The Wing III Survivor Challenge begins next Wednesday, March 21st. Each CMDR should have notified me of which two pilots from their squad will be competing before that date. Approval from the Training Office is pending, and I optimistically don't expect any trouble from them ...

Questions? I'm sure there is something that someone doesn't understand ... that's quite a lot to take in. Feel free to e-mail me with questions.
Note that CMDRs themselves CAN participate ... but then only one other pilot from your squad could come with you ... the choice is yours. By the same token, CMDRs are not automatically expected to participate. If you have two pilots in your squad that are more active than you ... well then, do the right thing. But either way, I need two names from each squad by the 21st.

Whew!

Wing III Quote of the Week
---------------------------------------
"1. No talking about Aleth Squadron (kidding...)
2. If you want to play tricks on a superior officer, remember that I can fire you, but LC Marden can't.
3. There is no spoon.
4. You may call me, Captain, or commander, or Jahan, or master of the universe but not "the old man".
5. Have fun, and that's an order!"
-- Jahan's new rules for Aleth Squadron

Other notable quotes this week :

"Sorry that this report is late for the second week in a row, but I couldn't find the time to finish it over the weekend *Osan'gar gets beaten up by Frank* Arghh...stoopid Ewok :P I promise not to send it late next week." -- Osan'gar experiences the fury of Frank

"Now get outta here, kid. Ya bother me." -- Heard outside the Commodore's office, as FA Kramer thoughtfully listens to the suggestions of a junior officer ;-)

"Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional." -- Anonymous

- This week's WC Product Spotlight : It's the original symphonic soundtrack from The Empire Strikes Back! Even if you've never seen a Star Wars movie in your life, you should still own this music! Quite possibly the best score ever, from one of the world's most gifted composers. Longer and more thematic then the music from Star Wars; shorter and darker than the score from Return of the Jedi. There is nothing else to say, other than ... if you don't already own this, you are only hurting yourself. Appropriate link follows, courtesy of Amazon.com :

- This week's discussion topic : Have you experienced a Mr. T sighting lately? Remember that Mr. T sightings can be classified into three catagories :

Mr. T Sighting of the First Kind : You spot the T man either in a crowd or on television. Visual contact only.
Mr. T Sighting of the Second Kind : Mr. T acknowledges your presence. In most cases, he tells you to cease your "jibba jabber", or he reminds you to drink your milk and visit the nearest youth center.
Mr. T Sighting of the Third Kind : You have made the ultimate mistake of angering Mr. T, and he lifts you up like a rag doll and throws you a great distance. Although not uncommon, sightings of the third kind are not always reported because the victim doesn't think that anyone will believe him.

If you have experienced any of the above, let us know! Operators are standing by at 1-800-T THRU ME. We're ready to believe you!

Okay, that does it for this week. Fly high and watch you six!
