Wing VIII Weekly Report

Wing Commander Chei-Ras reporting in,

----------------------------------------------------------
Fleet News Summary
----------------------------------------------

1. As taken directly from the tiecorps domain here comes the biggest news of the last week. AbsoluteK's Hosting Services are ceasing operations (this applies to both ehnet.org and squadrons.org and to the ehnet mail services). As quaoted from AbsK's speech:

I will be leaving my college residence on December 15th. This means that I will no longer have access to my T1 link to the internet, which is used to host my server which hosts many EH Websites. I have an account with 500MB of space on a different server which i can use to host websites, email accounts, and email lists. But due to the space restrictions, on webspace I can't host all the websites currently hosted on my server. I'm also aware of the fact that many of the websites on my server, haven't been updated in a long time, some since i first opened up the server almost a year ago. For this reason, and the space restriction on my account, I'am requiring anybody that wishes to continue recieving web hosting from me send an email to accounts@absolutek.com with the topic "My Website Account" and the following information in the body of the email:

-Account Name
-Current Password
-Size of website
-Why you deserve hosting

Priority for hosting will go in this order:
-Sub Group homesite
-Command Staff Offices
-Squadron
-others

Those people that have email, and email list accounts on my server currently will have their account setup on the new server by the time I leave college residence. However, they will have to email me for their account passwords. They can do so by emailing accounts@absolutek.com with the topic "My email/list account" and including the following information in the body of the email:

-account name
-current password

I'm very sorry to have to shut down my server, and understand that many EH'ers will be affected by this. To stay in college residence i'd need $1900CAD, which i don't have, and since i've been a full time student for 4 straight semesters now, i haven't had much time for a job either. I'm looking into other possibilities for hosting my server on a cable internet connection, but i'm not sure when or if i will be able to do that.

I would like to urge anybody who has any questions or concerns to please email me at absolute@ehnet.org.

Despite the fact that my server will cease operations (hopefully not permanently), on December 15th, I still plan to remain active in the Emperor's Hammer.

2. Second biggest news - Mission design contest. For the Jedi Convention 2001 held in Cologne, Germany next Easter, the Emperor's Hammer is going to provide some demonstration custom missions for some competitions, with little prizes for the winners. The goal of this contest is to select the missions chosen for this event. Missions will be needed for all platforms, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter and X-wing Alliance. Due to the "propaganda" nature of the event, only missions of the highest quality will be selected.
Three custom missions per platform will be chosen for single player competitions. In addition, a set of four XvT missions will be selected for a multiplayer contest: these missions can be in either "multiplayer combat" or "multiplayer training" formats, be played in cooperation or face-to-face engagement, but must be balanced for both sides.

Details available at http://www.tiecorps.org/tac/contest.html

Dont miss the chance to present your own creation to the people outside the TC and EH ...

Wing News
-------------------------------------

A very very strange week. Most of the week my inbox was receiving copies on different disputes and personal fights between Colossus pilots and the pilots from other Ships. I will copy here an edited version of the letter I have sent to one of our pilots while I was trying to understand the true nature of the dispute ...

"All I see in my inbox is nothing but arguing around different issues. During my career I had many troubles on my own but never/or rarely engaged in them ... Yes, the EH is a somewhat lifestyle for me now and I do not agree with some officers when they're telling you this is only a game club. EH and especially the Tie Corps are the thing where you "live" and the rules (especially the CoCs and AoW) were not made just for the heck of it. Sadly we have too much of politic disputes inside the club. Why have I never engaged my self in such things? Because they never result in the personal satisfaction ... well at least I think so for myself. They never produce anything but chaos and suffering for both parties envolved.

[edited part]For example: a young fresh pilot goes cursing and swearing at you when you simply propose him your help in Daedlaus training. Later he transferes to one of the squadrons and you decide to "burn his tail and show who's da boss" to him. Why really do that? This young officer who wrote you such a bad letter will suffer during his career enough for such behaivour because he will not be able to hide it, his superiors, fellow pilots will rather soon recognise his nature.

However I do not want to say that you have to close your eyes and ears on everything bad happening around you. But always try to separate a violation from VIOLATION. Serious accusation, false inquisitor's court decision, deceive ... etc ... this should never be disrespected first of all because you have "this little thing called Pride!". But I wouldn't advise on making any emotional steps. Too often it appears that motivated by emotions solely you can make a grave mistake and start acting like the one who abused you. Be above him, be higher, be smarter and be cooler as for you are the Imperial officer with the Colossus spirit inside and the real guts to face any trouble! ;P"

But enough of boring speeches and lets move to the facts.

1. Colossus vs Avenger. Although the participation was low (must admit that some squadron haven't submitted a single TFR) the total score looks pretty high but without the totals from the "other side" the real results are still to come. Here is what we have at the moment

The battle was TC TIE 138. All scores are in laserless. Special credit goes to CPT Drake who supplied us with exellent tips on that battle (I was very surprised to get one mission highscore after using them)

Heavy spanking and chainsaw massacre will follow should such a "high" participation happen once again. ;P

2. Commodore Ari has finally released his Zupa Secret Project for the fun and enjoyment of the Wing. ISD Colossus Arena or the Tie Fighter Colossus official ladder is up and running! As taken from Commodore's special announcement (please read very carefully and ... start flying and having fun now ;P):

The ISD Colossus Arena is a ladder system for the Colossus wheres pilots can challenge each other to a FREE-TIE mission. Winners of the challenges will receive points in the Arena and raise their standings. The Arena Challenges go on for 3 months. At the end of 3 months, we close competitions and at that time we will have the quarter-finals. The quarter finals is when the 1st through 8th ranking pilots in the arena will compete with each other. The winners will move on to the semifinals, then finals. The awards promise to be outstanding for the finalists:

Quarter-finalists will receive an ISM
Semi-finalists receive a PC
Finalists receive a BS
the CHAMPION of the finals...
Will not only receive the BS due to him/her (ill see what i can do about an SS)
He will also receive the title of: ISD COLOSSUS PARAGON KNIGHT
The Paragon Knight is the exemplary pilot of the entire ship. He will go head-to-head with the best of the TC for fame and medals. The Paragon Knight will also become the Colossus Tactical Coordinator. The TacCoor will advise the flag staff on battles (which to pick for comps, for example) and the like. And of course, the title of Paragon Knight is a symbol of pride and fame.
HOWEVER!

As soon as the Paragon Knight is chosen, the scores are RESET according to the current FCHG rankings (that's how they were set this time, as well). From then on, we'll start anew for another 3 months and after that, the finals again, etc. All active pilots have been registered for the ISD Colossus Arena. The official site for the ISD Colossus Arena is http://www.isdcolossus.com/arena/main.asp
please make SURE to bookmark it! Read the introductory paragraph, as well as the RULES!

The site is pretty self-explanatory. If you have any questions, ask myself or the Arena Master, Captain Drake And with that, Commodore bid all of us the best of luck within the

3. Battlegroups Ace Pilot League ( http://www.impstar.net/relentless/BGAPL/ ). You obidient servant, Wing Commander Chei-Ras still holds the title of Colossus Ace and is all open for the challenge. If you a feeling the Colossus Ace title must be yours do not hesitate to challenge me (dont forget to CC BGCOM Jarak on the challenge letter).

4. Our own "Daedlaus spamming machine" also known as the CRO (no offence ;P) lead by LCM Dall Star is in the progress of finding new and better ways of recruiting tactics. This week they will take on cadets regarding the colors Dall Star gave to them. He painted the Daedlaus roster and gave assignements to his officers. 1 group of cadets - 1 CRO officer. Poor cadets. Wing Commander himself was given a tiny part in this mad mission and is still thinking if it will be better to just send a whole barrel of DropDowns to the platform and see what happens.

5. Mu vs Pi competition. Yes again ... In my last report I have announced that Pi squadron claimed the victory, however after finding a "lost TFR of Mu squadron with the score surpassing the best TFR of Pi" it was decided by both Commanders that the victory should go to Mu.

6. Eta vs Cyclone. Our assassins were challenged by a squadron from Wing X - Cyclone. Battle to fly is Free TIE Mission #136
Scoring: Total from the top three pilots from each squad Awards: ISMs for squadron top guns and a "congratulatory" message from
the losing CMDR on both the COL's and CHAL's message boards. Deadline: 27 November.
What can we say here ... go Eta!

7. Colossus Elite 12 vs Praetorian squadron. And here comes the most interesting event ever. Colossus own Elite including your obidient servant will be fighting the cream of the Tie Corps - Praetorian squadron. The battle to fly is TC-TIE Battle #165 - The Hunt for Zsinj. Deadline is Friday 25th of November. Those who are in our elite (http://mu.squadron.org/wingVIIIelite) be sure to fly your best and show the real power of this Ship to the Corps.

8. This week the Wing wide AWOL check has begun. This is an AWOL check and the pilots will have 2 (two) weeks starting from 16th
of November to reply. Your reply must be sent to Wing Commander Chei-Ras (cheiras@bigfoot.com) . When replying you have the option of telling me your thoughts and feeling about your current squadron, your superiors and your view on the activity situation onboard Colossus.

I assure you that this will be totally confidential (however if you do not want to write such explanations you can simply say "Hi, I'm
here")

Those who will fail to reply to this letter until 30 of November will be removed from the roster of ISD Colossus and sent directly to the
reserves (have to wait for a whole month in order to totally remove from the roster).

CMDRs please notify me about all personnel who are currently on the leave providing me the date of their return.

Please consider this check as a normal Tie Corps procedure that has to be performed sometimes.

As of today I have the replies from the following pilots:

CM Darkstar (Iota)
LT Daniel Stephens (Omicron)
LCM Wap Eal (Eta)
LT Alain Dindareanu (Eta)
LT Crevent Thrawn (Omicron)
CM Kromtal Stormfyld (Omicron)
CM Owen Nivarian (Pi)
CPT Troutrooper (Eta) who gets a special cookie to be the first person to reply AWOL with a witty comment "Im here. heck, we chatted last night :)"

CMDRs please make sure every pilot in your squadron understands the importance of this event and reply as soon as possible.

9. Promotions, assignments and awards/misc.

CPT Troutrooper [Eta] - ISM
CM Zekk Terrik [Iota] - MoI
VA Ari {Colossus ;P} - Gold Star! Now thats something to celebrate Vice One ;)

SL Jorfar Danley [Pi] promoted to the rank of LT for flying his first mission
LCM Dall Star [Omicron] promoted to FL position in Flight III of Omicron squadron

CM Zekk Terrik transferes from the reserves to Iota squadron 1-3
LCM Jague Philu [Omicron] requested transfer to the reserves due to RL

CM Devin McCloud [Omicron] has completed IWATS HTML 1 course with 100% ... Congrats
LT Daniel Stephens [Omicron] has completed IWATS Course: Squadron Management 2 with 88%

10. Officially approved BSFs count for this week - 43 (akhem ... thats not as much as we had last week)

11. Top five FCHG pilots -

[814] CM Shae Kitane
[793] CPT Troutrooper (up one position)
[783] CPT Drake (down one position)
[648] MAJ Chei-Ras
[569] CM Darkstar

12. Membership count: 37

------------------------------------------------------
Squadrons summary
-----------------------------------------------------

I would like to remind you all that this section is based on my own personal subjective views on the squadrons. The more communication I get from the squads the more I know about them and the more precise the summary could be.

1. Mu squadron

Mu is still trying to jump up in the matters of activity. I see that some of Mu pilots hwo were highly active in the past are now decreasing their efforts and the squadron looks like a bear preparing for the winter sleep. However this can be only a sudden and wrong vision. Should you check the Colossus vs Avenger results you will see that Mu produced the highest ... around 800K squadron total score. Winter sleeping bears appear to be more dangerous then one can think ;P

2. Pi squadron

Pi ... pi .. pi ... piiiiiiiiiiiii. Wake up killers! New CMDR has started a weekly BoW or Battle of the week and we all are waiting for that to take effect. Otherwise Pi will become target #1 for my whip and chainsaw activity motivators.

3. Omicron squadron

Still recovering from the CMDR change Omicron sent in only two TFRs for Colossus vs Avenger competition. CMDR McCloud is in the progress of preparing something like a big and painfull activity motivator (hm ... have I used this weird sentence already). Last week to shake up Omicron ... Colossus needs high activity these days.

4. Iota squadron

After loosing half of their citations Iota voices sound like they want to reclaim their title of one of the more citations rich squadron in the Battlegroups. However currently Iota members suffer from computer problems and the flying was not high this week. One pilot came in and the other decided to stay with Iota rather then transfering out into the reserves.

5. Eta squadron

The week of "every go on the leave as for TT has returned". Both flightleaders go on the leave and Troutrooper sends the only SL to hell after one month of no communication. However Eta is heating engines and preparing to fight Cyclone from Wing X. Not looking at the fact there is currently only TT and Drake who are able to fly (2 FLs on the leave and LT AD still suffering from computer problems) Eta keeps it up. This week we will most probably see the results of the poll concerning Eta special assassination Tie.
