Wing VIII Weekly Report

Wing Commander Chei-Ras reporting in,

First I want to apologize for the unusual late report. During the last 48 hours my ISP was experiencing continuous technical problems. Taking into consideration that this was not the first time, I have subscribed myself to the second ISP which will serve as a reserve in case my main will go down once again. But enough of this and lets roll over to the report itself ... All mail will be answered within the next 24 hours ...

Fleet News Summary
----------------------------------------------

1. Experimental TC Report System
An experimental TIE Corps report system has been up for Squadron Commanders, Wing Commanders, Commodores, Battlegroup Commanders, Task Force Commanders, and Task Unit Commanders. Simply log in at the Administration section and click "Add New TC Report" and you can add reports of the past and present. Links to the reports are on the rosters. It has only been fully tested for Squadron Commanders only. If you spot any problems using the system at all, please notify Sector Admiral Kawolski immediately. (the current report will also go online to test this system)

2. EH Encyclopedia helpers needed
I've neglected this project for the last couple months. However, it's going to start up again. If you are interested in helping with this project, email me at jpboyce@indigo.net.au If you wish to know more, you can also email that address.

3. Newsletter #69
Sector Admiral Compton has released Newsletter #69 to the fleet. This issue has been named the special edition "EH Primer." While there are no reports or submissions from members, it does contain a digested version of the Emperor's Hammer Training Manual with some added commentary from the Executive Officer on each command-level position and subgroup.

You can download it at: http://www.tiecorps.org/files/nl/hammer69.zip (~0.4 MB).

Wing News
-------------------------------------
The passed week would walk into the history of the Wing VIII as the “Black Week”. Not only our membership count dropped below 30 and nearly hit 20, but we also saw a whole squadron transferring to the other Ship. I will later return to that topic in order to put an end to rumors about the causes of that transfer. During the last week we have fallen behind almost a year loosing not only a squadron, but also endangering our Wing to repeat the history of “Dead February 2000”. From now on our glory, our success and our own survival will lie in the hands of each single pilot, in the hands of each CMDR and of cause on the back of myself and the Commodore himself.

While in practice the activity of the Wing generally depends on the activity level of each its member, officially it is the Wing Commander who bears the full responsibility should the Wing start falling down. But today I'd rather be sripped off all ranks, medals and honors and be banned from the Hammer itself then to see Wing degrading. Help me revive the Wing today with your good work and thou shall be rewarded by the memories you will never forget. Remember that one can lead a horse to the water, but one cannot make this horse drink the water ...

Today we are not yet *falling down* but the situation is rather critical. Though some of you may panic I would like to calm you down and officially promise that not later then within a month (hm ... forgot about the new year holidays) or two we will remember this Black Week as a part of our history.

1. Iota transfered out. Despite the rumors that Immortal WC Val Ricaud is stealing our pilots and other wild guesses I would like to put an end to these rumors and officially inform you that the request to transfer out was first carried out by Iota CMDR Lohr Zadash and approved by his squadron. Neither Commodore or me were offically engaged in this and frankly speaking I would like you consider that theme closed for now. What is done is done. We will remember Iota personnel as one of the most amazing squadrons and tightest groups onboard. Pilots go, but the memory stays. Despite the reccomendations to close the squadron, meeting wondering objections from both officers and pilots I made the decision to keep Iota open and active. The decision is made and I thank the Commodore who approved it. Time will show if it was a right step or not.

With great joy in my heart I welcome Major Steve Strangelove, the Colossus old timer veteran who was commanding the squadron when I was a fresh LT ... He is a very talented and motivated officer who got commanding experience of thousands universes. Steve will take over the today empty Iota and will help the Wing by raising it up (however by some mistake ... I hope ... he was assigned to Iota 2-1?!). I have strong beliefs Iota will shine once again very soon.

2. The thing I was long holding in my pocket. The Wing wide competition. Taking into consideration the fact that right now we have several other important issues then a competition I have decided to cut it down a little bit. Despite the planned three parts we will have but two. Behold ...

"Santa Colossus's tales or the Test of Power"

Another new year party is near. Colossus, driven by Commodore Ari was placed away from the battlefield and into the far system. There, hidden in the asteroid field Wing VIII pilot started preparing themselves for the biggest party of the year. The ship is already decorated with illumination and the first group of gunguns and brand new chainsaws ordered specially by the Wing Commander for more fun have arrived onboard. And now, in these quiet days, when the personnel is either heavy drinking or dead sleeping the Wing Commander gathers a meeting. There he shows the personnel his brand new improved Detoxification apparatus (after the last one was tossed out of the airlock after the first Colossus doctor resigned from his position) and permits the pilots to degustate the brand new Enhanced DropDown which unlike the normal Drop Down and its better version the Advanced DropDown causes you to see stampedes after the first shot ...
But only one squadron will be able to use this wonderfull apparatus and drink the very limited Enhanced DropDown on the New Year evening and it order to know which squadron will have that honor Wing Commander called upon the pilots for a Test of Power!

*The winning squadron will be decided upon the calculation of points earned by individual squadron pilots

Week one ... beggining on the 18th of December

Outside the asteroid field there was a probe set sending distress calls on the rebel frequency ... The call contains information about a New Republic cargo ferry that is captured by the Imperials. The cargo is, according the info contained in the distress, loaded with valuable metals and minerals. Shortly after two parties arrive ... the rebels eager to save *their* cargo and a pirate strike force eager to lay hands on the cargo. Little did they know about 5 squadrons hiding in the asteroid field ready to rip apart everyone who enters the system.

Assignment - fly FREE TIE 119
Deadline - 24th of December
Points - 10 for the first place, 8 for the second, 6 for the third, 4 for the fourth, 2 for the fifth and 1 for everybody else (special bonus of 10 points for 100% squadron participation)
Awards - PS for the best pilot, two ISMs for the second best and third best
Submissions to: respective CMDR who will compile competition reports for WC Chei-Ras attaching all pilot files to it

Week one n' half ... beggining on 21st of December

After the pirate and rebel debris that once was a combined strike force is scattered across the system brave Wing VIII pilots return to the Colossus in order to take part in the Arts competition to show that they can not only pull the trigger but also use their imagination. There are no strict rules but Ramon, Wing VIII bartender was given an order not help pilots stimulate their imagination by Drop Downs and especially by these drink Commodore Ari introduced a month ago ...

Assignment - write a short fiction or draw/compile an image on one of the following themes: "Colossal New Year", "Colossal headache" or "1st of January. Is there a doctor on the Ship!?"
Deadline - 27th of December
Points - every submission gets 5 points plus bonuses: 10 for the first place, 8 for the second, 6 for the third, 4 for the fourth, 2 for the fifth (special bonus of 10 points for 100% squadron participation)
Awards - PS for the first place and two ISMs for the second best and the third best pilot
Submissions to: directly to WC Chei-Ras (cc COM Ari here please)

The official results will be named on the 28th of December and the squadron commander who will ensure the highest participation in the squadron (not less then 90% for both parts) will receive a PC.

3. Battlegroups Colossus Ace title still belongs to ex-Iota CMDR Lohr Zadash ... Can we let the now-Hammer CMDR to hold this title for any longer? I say no! The title must come back to Colossus ... If you have the guts of a real imperial officer choose a Free Tie and challenge Lohr Zadash today ... rip the title from Relentless and back onto the Collie! (dont forget to cc BGCOM Jarak on all mail relating to BGs Ace league).

4. New Executive Officer of the Wing is chosen. Traditionally one of the seniour CMDR of the Wing this officer rather often goes starts the fire of critics about the general management in the Wing and the one thing that is very special about his critics is that unlike many others his are constructive critics. He also proved that a strong squadron is only 50% of luck getting active pilots ... another 50% is the succesfull management and every-day encouragement. Eta Commander Troutrooper is the officer who will fill in for Wing Commander when the latter will be on the leave or wasted in the cantina ...

5. The next month will be the month to show our true potential. Right now there will be no structural reforms on the Wing roster (after all I believe all the dead weight was kicked out by the recent AWOL) but they can take place by the end of January. I'm not talking about the possibility to close a squadron or two next month, but should the squadron seriously and continously fail to perform its duties I'm afraid I will be forced to reassign pilots into the more active groups in order to plant them in the more active enviroment. I hope that you get this message in a right way. Not a punishment for the squadrons that are low on activity but to help and motivate the pilots to be active in other squadron if they cannot act duly in the one they are currently assigned to. However every case (and here I'm talking about pilots, not squadrons) will be dealt separately with maximum caution in order not to break the gloden rule of fun. Taking into consideration our current situation I ask each and every squadron commander on the roster to start everyday motivation and communication with their pilots to ensure the best knowledge of pilot's skills and their needs. Pilots, on the other hand, should not be silent when they need something or when they want to change anything around them ... Remember that you have your CMDR, you have WC, you have COM who will carefully listen to you and try to work out a best decision possible and aceptable by all parties.

6. Promotions, assignments and awards/misc.

CPT Lohr Zadash (Iota back then) - awarded PC
CPT Troutrooper (Eta) - awarded PC for his exellent service as Eta CMDR in November
MAJ Chei-Ras (WC) - awarded SS and is still recovering from the shock

LCM Yabbo Wagyx (Mu) promoted to the rank of CM - congrats officer! You more then earned this one

LT White Tiger (Mu) - transfered to the RSVs
LT (ex-CM) Kromtal Stormfyld (Omicron) resigned from the Corps
MAJ Steve Strangelove transfered from the reserves and into Iota squadron
CT Tyronne transferred from Daedlaus and into Eta squadron

LT Daniel Stephens (Omicron) has completed IWATS Course: Computer Basics with Score: 86%

7. Officially approved BSFs count for this week - 8 (double checked, no triple checked the inbox ... do I have problems with my mail or flying battles is no more popular in the Corps ah?)

8. Top five FCHG pilots -

[899] CPT Troutrooper
[649] MAJ Chei-Ras
[366] LT Dark Talon
[303] LCM Wap Eal
[263] MAJ Steve Strangelove

9. Membership count: 23 (yes it is critically low ... but soon, very soon we will hit the 30 mark)

------------------------------------------------------
Squadrons summary
-----------------------------------------------------

After being introduced the new CMDR, Mu squadron is now rumored to wake up a little and we hope this once great squad will improve very soon. The help of Dark Talon who, unlike the other recently handicapped by the HCI, is admirable and shows the true example of the Colossus spirit. Pi squadron trashed me with surprise last week. Two pilots who were reassigned to the reserved due to low/ none activity have actually submitted to some battles to their CMDR Nivarian. He has mentionned in his report that he will be requesting these pilots back and I am waiting for his officials letters to deal with every case separetely. Omicron was also of a surprise but unlike the Pi that was a sad surprise to know Omicron was dead as a good drunken pirate last week (apart from CMDR Cloud who seems to order Ras's favourite toy - the chainsaw and perform a couple of live executions in order to raise the morale). Iota personnel is off to Relentless and the old Iota topic is closed. Eta ... another *quiet eta* week passed. almoust every meber submitted a battle or two and CMDR Troutrooper is spreading hapiness in his entrusted squadron with a simple *complete three tasks* competitions which seems more to be a simple run for medals :]

But two weeks left until the New Year party and some have their finals already but despite the will to party around or please the mean professors with knowledge pilots are continuing to participate in the TC life having fun and helping the Wing.
