May 16th 2002: Turn 8 and Battle Updates

The results of the second battle of 0508 are: The BattleGroups returned to drive out the Sov forces...losing 4 T/As, but destroying two T/Ds, and forcing the Corvette to flee. In the wake of this, the BGs captured the planet. In the meantime the Sov forces moved ahead, and stole a planet away from the BattleGroups. The ATF and ASF are still hanging back from the main arena....

A better week from you all, more activity, but still not the best, we have lost members this week because of AWOL`s, we are down to 31, not acceptable people, so get recruiting.

SSSD Sovereign Recruiting Competition
This is a competition to increase the membership of the SSSD Sovereign. There are three categories:
-- Recruitment Web page. Create a personal, flight, squadron or wing recruitment page(s). Teams of pilots may collaborate or this may be done individually.
Iron Stars will be awarded to up to the top three entrants.
Deadline: midnight May 31. Send zipped entries or URLs to VA Proton at hullbreach@aol.com
-- Recruitment campaign. Create an outline of the perfect recruiting campaign. Demonstrate in writing how your individual, flight, squadron or wing will conduct its campaign to fill and maintain its ranks.
Iron Stars will be awarded to up to the top three entrants.

SSSD Sovereign Cantina Drinking Song Competition
This is a songwriting lyrics contest to see who can write the best "drinking song" for the SSSD Sovereign's cantina.
Rules: To be eligible for a medal, a song must have at least the following elements:
-- A title.
-- Byline with ID line (example: By FM/LT Crooner/Gamma 1-2/Wing I/SSSD Sovereign).
-- At least two verses and a chorus (you know, like, first verse, the chorus, second verse, repeat chorus).
-- Strong relation to the ship, its pilots, and-or life aboard the ship.
Submittal: Send entries to VA Proton at hullbreach@aol.com by midnight May 31. I'd prefer text attachments with this format: "song-yourname.txt" .
Awards: Winner will receive an Iron Star-Gold Ribbon. Second and third places will receive IS-SR and IS-BR, respectively.
Disclaimer: Nothing requires the Sovereign drinking song author to specifically write about consumption of alcohol. You can write about drinking milk or water or whatever.

SickMan`s Summer Sanity Comp
Here`s the plan, all this summer there is going to be a ongoing massive, huge stupendous comp, that will all have you saying, Sicky are you nuts........hence the name of the comp.
There will be the usual flying comps every month as per usual, but from now until September the 1st there will be different comps that will have this long time to complete to give you guys some time to do them and to change the very foundations of Wing V forever !
1) Ok, design the new Banner for Wing V with a new Mascot in it, the Eagle has been In Wing V for as long as i`ve been around, but it`s time for a change
This has to be a particulat execellent piece of work that stand out from the rest and that symbols what we are in Wing V, also a smaller version is need for our uniform arms.
2) A new Nickname and motto for Wing V, a great task to change a Wing`s nick & motto, i invite you all for idea`s, the best will be propsed to the COM for his agreement.
3) Mission builders are needed, i want a Wing free mission or Battle, on any format to be designed, which will include the personel of Wing V, our COM and Team SIC

Design something that will make Wing V feel good, a simple comp, it can be anything you like, a story, a poem, a song, a picture, anything, just make something for Wing V that will cheer us all up:)

Due to real life commitments, I will be unavailable for this coming Friday and Saturday. Any outstanding concerns will be addressed then. Also, I would like to quote a new policy from COO Report #10:
"A number of people have expressed concerns about COO sponsored Multiplayer Competitions. The concerns rest in hosts sometimes showing up late due to prior commitments, or some not showing at all. Henceforth, all Multiplayer participants are encouraged to fly matches regardless of the situation. Any and all matches that are flown within the designates times will be counted, even if it is necessary to report extra matches directly to the Combat Operations Officer."
Hopefully this will clear up any concerns in relation to COO related competitions.

ORATORS OF AIRLOCK# 21
Orator of the week:
Nobody's to blame for the current situation in the Wing. We all have problems now and then, some more serious than others. RL can be a pain in the ass, and it comes before any TC issues. It's just that should anyone encounter problems of any magnitude (problems that may cause inactivity in TC), they should be shared with fellow pilots or at least flag officers. A brief note to the CMDR will do, just to notify him of one's status. A transfer to the Reserves is much better than just sitting there all mute, not replying to any messages and inevitably going AWOL. It's one of the most frustrating things for a Squadron commander, and I would guess for a Wing Commander as well. I know this...from the both sides. I myself am guilty for such action, and I regret it. Feel free to quit any time you want but say it out loud. It takes only a little time and is the best thing for the whole wing.
I rest my case.
