WING COMMANDER'S CORNER

So what's new? Well i've laid down a challenge for the Wing to fly over 2000 missions this month. So far we're on 1527 which puts us ahead of target, but that's no reason to slow down.

Iota have broken their "missions in a month" Record, Nu are almost about to beat their record. The rest of you can still do the same!

I'd also like to welcome all the recent additions to Wing VIII. In Particular, LT's Shikai, Jaron Kai and Kit Juno. As you will notice further down this report, all 3 are in the top 6 for Pilot of the Month! In addition, Jaron and Kit have already been promoted to Flight Leaders in their squads, so the future of Wing VIII looks bright.


July changes to SoM+PoM:
1. The graphics scale will change to 0, 20, 35, 55, 75 - This will give me more flexibility with grading.
2. Points for High Scores. 5pts for each high score in a TFR.


Squadron of the Month + Pilot of the Month:
The standard points system is 1 point per mission flown.

BONUS POINTS:
IWATS courses passed (10 pts per course)
LoCs won (5 pts per LoC)
DFCs won (50 pts per DFC)
Iron Stars (Bronze 10pts, Silver 25pts, Gold 50pts, Platinum 100pts)
MoT all types (green hammer 25pts, red hammer 60pts)
Graphics, a maximum of one per pilot per week to be jointly graded on a
scale.
Fiction, a maximum of one per pilot per week to be jointly graded on a
scale.

GRAPHICS/FICTION SCALE:
0 - 0pts, 1 - 20pts, 2 - 40pts, 3 - 75pts

Criteria are; Effort + Technically sound + Artistically sound
0 - No criteria
1 - 1 criteria
2 - 2 criteria
3 - 3 criteria

Submissions receiving the top grade will be inline for medals and the top Fiction and Graphics will also be submitted to the wing for voting, first place in each category will receive Services to Art and Services to Literature awards.


WEEKLY FLYING MEDALS:
ISM for 25 missions
PC for 45 missions
BS for 80 missions

PROF positions open

The positions of ICQ and Graphics professor are open. The successful application for ICQ should have a high level of practical experience with ICQ, have passed the course and be consistant in marking tests. The successful applicant for Graphics should have experience in a graphics package such as Photoshop, as well as having passed the course and be consistant in marking tests. Graphics applicants must also list the URLs for at least 2 examples of their skill in graphics. Email your applications to jpboyce@indigo.net.au, addressing the criteria and listing 3 references. At least one of the references must be a current superior.
IWATS Squadron Management 3

The third version of the IWATS Squadron Management Course is now officially out. As I said in my previous reports, this is more of an update rather than a complete rework. This means that there isn't anything significantly new, but there is more information on things like the Fleet Standing Orders, Database procedures and the new CMDR Tour of Duty rule.

The test is not compulsory for present Squadron Commanders but they are highly encouraged to read through the notes. Pilots that were CMDRs in the past and are applying for a CMDR position at some point in the future, do not have to take SM/3, assuming SM/1 or 2 has already been passed.

Please note that the pass mark for the SM/3 test is 80% and copies of transcripts are not kept, unless you mail me beforehand.

- Rear Admiral Corran Force promoted to ISD Challenge Commodore
- Colonel Stele Pellaeon promoted to Wing Commander of Wing II
- Major Lohr Zadash promoted to Wing Commander of Wing IX.

Also congratulations to Rear Admiral Darksaber and Rear Admiral Krax Tarnisar, both of whom have been promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral for all of their hard work as Commodore.
