Wing III Weekly Report #8
by LC Thorn

SALUTE

WING COMMANDER'S OFFICE

welcome to another Wing Report. it's September the 1st
so i think for some of you it means end of vacations
and going back to school. take care! as for students -
good for us that we still have one month left ;)
as for those working - my thoughts are always with you,
working 5 days a week. auch! one thing is good - you're
back from vacations, so i hope you're ready for active
duty in the TIE Corps. there is nothing better then
flying after busy day at school ;) after you've done your
homeworks get to the cockpits and fly! of course there are
many other things to do. IWATS, recruitment, GFX and many
more. in the report below i point you some opportunities
to show how active you are and chance to earn some nice
medals. read carefully.
sadly i didnt manage to create this report in HTML. although
i have vacations for another month, exam i failed in summer
prevents me from many things i'd like to do. the exam is on
Sept 18th and i'm already somewhat scared. good luck to all
of you who have exams!!! well... it isnt the first time and
sadly - not last, when i have to retake the exam. god bless
me.

like i said - vacations are over and whole TIE Corps is going
back alive. slowly couriers begin to run around the ship with
messages and orders. sirens and red lights are all around the
ship reminding all pilots and Flags that we're soing on another
campaign. after two months we're refueled and rearmed. our
fighters are clean and ready for launch. GA Ronin is walking
around the Sovereign's bridge, looking if everything's set.
i count that we wont be the ones who fail him. show me that
i can go to him, salute and say "Sir, Wing III is ready for
duties!". Emperor's Hammer is in need of heroes and we'll show
them we're not worse then any other units. as for those, who
think that "Phantoms" means they should be invisible, i put
on special detection googles. you wont hide from me >:)our engines are warming up, but we're still in Aurora System,
so M/FRG Phoenix, where Reserves station are near the ship.
be sure we'll check the readiness our Wing before we move on
new campaign. be sure to report to your Squadron Commanders
if you'll with us on this one or you want to take some time off
and transfer to Phoenix. check your mail, because soon Commanders
will check if you're ready or not. we cant waste the sace aboard
the ship and take those who lie on their bunks whole day. it doesnt
mean i'll put the Wing on all missions available. but be sure to
stay in touch with your superiors and show your face sometimes
in Wing's Cantina. like i said before - there will be plenty of
oportunities to gain honour and awards. we're going soon!
remember that thanks to technology developed by Communications
Office we'll be able to be in touch with PLT Daedalus and we
can establish contacts with Cadets, who might be interested in
taking part in our patrol. contact them as often as you can and
help them with training, so they can join our ranks as soon as
possible. travelling in hyperspace can be somewhat boring, but
Training Office is there to help you. between missions take
IWATS courses so you wont waste time and keep yourselves in form.
also Executive Officer is always eager to recieve your fiction and
graphics to put them in Newsletter, which is being distributed
all over the Fleet, so you can entertain other pilots who are
also moving on patrol. we're going on a patrol, but it doesnt
mean you'll lose contact with other ships. there are Message Boards
which are waiting for new posts and IRC channels where you can
talk with your fellow pilots. take that chance and use it. you
can learn many usefull things there. not to mention other entertains:
trivias (TIE Corps trivia held after TC meeting - 10:00 on Sunday
on #tiecorps, our Wing trivia held on Sunday 9:00 on #wing_iii),
Hammer Radio maintained by Corporate Division is playing almost
whole day. plug in! that can really make the time in hyperspace
enjoyable. of course there are also other things that some of us
call "entertainment". i'm talking about flying :) other things
are just to make our resting time a happy one. our main duty as
a part of TIE Corps is flying. stay in alert, because orders
setting us on another mission can come any minute. when they come
i want you to man your fighters and launch into battle. fate of
the Emperor's Hammer is in our hands, especially that we're stationed
aboard the Flagship of entire Emperor's Hammer - SSSD Sovereign.
we have to defend the ship and Grand Admiral Ronin and make them
proud of having such pilots. make me proud too. honour wont come
to you if you'll be avoiding your duties. we have to take every
oportunity to show our worth. and i hope we're worthy the honour
of flying for Sovereign. i dont want to dissapoint AD Proton or
any of our superiors. join the battle, Phantoms!
i hope you'll enjoy the campaign and take an active part in every
mission our superiors assign us. stay in contact with your Squadron
Commander, because they will keep you busy and they will pass the
orders which should be executed the best way you can. that's your
duty and that's your fate. you've chosen your path, so have courage
to walk it. we're going soon, so i wont make this briefing longer
and keep you away from your duties. in one hour i'll meet your
Squadron Commanders and prepare the Wing for active duty. stay
sharp for their orders. pack all things you want to take on the
campaign and say "goodbye" to your families. you're back in TIE
Corps and it needs your skills! prepare yourselves for hyperspace
jump. we're going for a fight for the glory of Emperor's Hammer!

ADDITIONAL INFO FOR BRIEFING

here are some usefull links for you. while in hyperspace we're
before real patrols and can take some time to do other things
the flying. of course you're most welcome to fly! remember that
for competitions you get "only" Iron Stars. to get some more
prestigious awards like Palpatine Crescents you have to do more
then just participate in competitions. you have to be exceptional!
that doesnt mean you have to fly 30 battles per month - just
fly! of course the more active you are you get chance to get
more prestigious awards. but it isnt so hard to earn a medal.
just look at your fellow pilots' Historical Records and follow
their examples! ok, here are the links:

Training Office (place where you can complete IWATS Courses and
learn about competitions held by Training Officer - often the main
prize is Iron Star - Platinium Ribbon/Wings! see below for details
about one of such competitions) - http://www.emperorshammer.ca/courses.html
one more thing about TO. for those who like to fly i reccomend
looking at Dark Brotherhood Sith course. it's for Siths - flying
part of DB. you'll find PLENTY of usefull hints and tips about
flying. i was really schocked when i saw that course. i isnt easy
and you have to a member of Dark Brotherhood to complete it, but
nothing stops you from reading it. of course you're most welcome
to join the Brotherhood! if you want to join Dark Brothers look at
their homesite: http://www.darkbrotherhood.org/db/

PLT Daedalus: http://www.emperorshammer.net/rosters/pltdaedalus.asp
here's the place you should spend some time. we're going on a
campaign but our roster is far from being full. we badly need
more pilots! i reccomend you write one mail offering help and
then send one copy for each new cadet that arrives at the
Platform. write "Greetings -NAME-!". from my experience i know
that they are more likely to answer - you have to mail them
in person. i wouldnt answer mail "Hello Noname!". but i did
when AD Marcin Szydlowski mailed me saying "Hello Thorn!".
and that's why he has many MoIs and i have six of them.
also if you see someone from your country, mail him/her in your
language. i felt nice when Mike mailed me in polish offering
help. and i answered. it's not so hard, belive me! i know that
they dont reply often. but you have to learn to be patient.
once you've established communications with a Cadet, help him/her
complete the training and invite him/her to join your squadron/
wing. DONT FORCE CADET TO JOIN! once i catch someone doing that
you'll be "invited" to my personal torture chamber!
check Daedalus at least once per week and try to get in touch
with those who joined since your last visit. i think that if
you'll follow my hints you should spend no more then 30 minutes
per week to try establishing contact. it's worth a try. this
should help the Wing very much. and with really small effort.
for those who desire awards i'd like to remind that helping
Cadets in their training (tell them that if they think you
helped them they should write that in their Request Squadron
Assignment form - DONT FORCE THEM TO WRITE YOUR PIN! torture
chamber is waiting for such recruiters!) is being awarded
by Medal of Instruction. to be honest i value those above
most medals i've got. once the contact has been established
help them out. if you dont know the answers to the questions
they are asking, contact either your squadron Commander or
Wing Commander. they will surely know the answers since they're
somewhat experienced and well informed in most EH issues.
and now the most important thing. for those that dont read the
reports carefully (Security Officer and one of my Wing Reports)
a reminder: YOU CANT SEND RECRUITMENT MAILS LIKE "JOIN MY SQUADRON!"
there are decoy Cadets created by SO and High Court of Inquisition
and you'll face grim consequences if you'll recruit in such way.
send "help offer" mails. then gently ask if they're interested in
joining your squadron! REMEMBER THAT!
one more thing regarding recruitment. you can also try contacting
pilots from M/FRG Phoenix. ask your friends who left if they would
like to come back. it's worth a try.
and one more warning! it's ILLEGAL to recruit from other squadrons!
some of pilots dont remember that, but it can make you face
the Court Marshal!

Battle Center: http://www.emperorshammer.net/battles/battletypes.asp
yup. you should fly!

TIE Corps News: http://www.emperorshammer.net/news.asp
be always informed about events going on in the Fleet!

Message Boards: www.theholo.net/mb
your squadrons and our Wing have message boards to make the
pilots contact eachother. you can learn many usefull things
there! keep youself informed. fill our MBs with posts!

mIRC:
usefull thing to stay in touch with other TIE Corps members.
you have to connect by Undernet servers. join channels:
#wing_iii (our Wing channel), #sssd_sovereign (our ship channel),
#tiecorps (TIE Corps channel).

WING NEWS

- i've reported AD Proton the situation of Aleth Squadron.
he agreed that the squadron should be closed. and it will
be for 98%. sad thing, but what can we do? if you have any
ideas how to solve this matter, act quickly! from what i've
heard CM Pokemaster is willing to be transfered to Hey Squadron.
how about you Dark Iceman? i'll contact you shortly.
dont we cry about that event. i'm sure that once you follow
my instructions and orders from your Commanders both Aleth and
Vav will be reopened! show your activity, so our Wing wont
be just another "retirement wing" and will be seen by other
wings as an active and exceptional wing and we'll run a good
recruitment campaign new pilots will come to us like a tide.
have hope and trust! do your best and we'll gain glory that
will make our roster be filled to capacity! so little effort
is needed that we all should try! glory for the Phantoms!

- we're going on a campaign soon, but before that we need some
warming up. after some discussions i've set a competition
against Wing IV led by LC Mayk Wolverine. it starts today and
ends at midnight GMT+1 time on September 14th.
we'll fly one mission for TIE and one for XWA. Wing IV is a
TIE wing and we're XWA, so we wanted to make the chances equal.
high scorer for each mission will be awarded by
Iron Star - Silver Wings and for second place there
will be Iron Star - Bronze Wings. to determine which
Wing is victorious scores for each platform will be summed up.
so if you think you dont have a chance (you shouldnt, but IF)
fly for the Wing! more people flies the missions, more chances
we have for a victory! i'm counting on you! the missions to
be flown are TIE-FREE #215 and XWA-FREE #100. i flew them both
this weekend (scores CLASSIFIED ;) ) and i know these missions
are EXTREMLY easy to complete! when flying TIE remember about
the laserless score. i think you should look at TIE Tactics
IWATS Course to learn some usefull tips how to fly this on this
platform. i know that Wing IV has many more pilots, but dont
get depressed. no kore then 1/3 will fly for this competition.
we have great chances! go to the Battle Center and download
the missions. and fly them! you have plenty of time, so fly
them several times and send me the file with highest score.
yes, your pilotfiles are to be send to me, i'll send a copy
to LC Wolverine. all files will be submitted to the database
after the end of the competition. i know some of you already
flew those missions, but now you get a great chance to earn a
medal for them! so fly them again!

- not only entire Wing is warming up. CPT Keller decided he'll
run a separate training for Gimel Squadron too. good thinking
and i encourage other Commanders to follow his example.
Gimel will fly on three platforms. missions to be flown are:
of course lucky winners will get IS-BRs. too bad i'm not in
Gimel, i have little Iron Stars :/ good luck to all participants!

- Wing III Trivia competition has been approved by Training
Office. i'd like to remind you that it will be held on #wing_iii
8:00 GMT. CM Drak from Beth Squadron will run the trivia.
check your knowledge/speed in serfing through the net ;) about
Star Wars universe and Emperor's Hammer. trivia will be held
each week, so i invite you to come to our Wing channel on IRC
and give it a try. every week winner will be awarded Iron Star -
Silver Ribbon and second place will get Iron Star - Bronze Ribbon.
whenever CM Drak will be unable to run the trivia on IRC, i'll
run it by email. stay sharp and participate.

- COL Aeishline Retirement competition has ended with no
submissions. sad. so i'm putting the Iron Stars back to
the locker. they'll wait for another competition.

- Operations Officer seat is still vacant, so medal reccomendations
for July activity still lie on the desk. we'll have to wait
patiently for those to be awarded, especially that i'm sure
other wings got them on the desk too, so it'll take the new
OPS some time to look them all over. be patient... like i do ;)

- August has ended and i'm waiting for each Squadron Commander
to send me Monthly Squadron Evaluation consisting a report
about squadron's situation and pilots' activity in August.
deadline is September 5th. get them in before that day. sooner
i get them sooner reccomendations will be examined.

- lately i put my interest in mission creation. currently i'm
in the middle of creating TIE battle about Crusader Squadron -
place where i came from (i wrote the plotline over a year ago
when i was doing TIE Mission Creation Course and i thought it's
hight time to do this battle - it cant be wasted). but i'd like
to create some battles/missions regarding our Wing. so i'm looking
for people who would like to cooperate with me to achieve this goal.
if you have a plotline or ideas for missions, but dont want
to spend time creating a battle/mission, send it to me and i'll
do my best to create it. as far as i can remember Medal of Tactics
is also awarded for writing a plotline, so i wont be parasiting on
you ;) of course even more welcome are people who would like to work
with me to create battles/missions. if you know something about
mission creation (any platform) or even have some experience in
creating new missions, work with me on battles/missions regarding
our Wing or your squadron. cooperation is better then competiton
and mission creation is time-consuming, so two people can do in
no-time what one person would do in a month. if you're interested
in making our Wing known through the Battle Center, please contact
me. i'm sure we'll be able to create MANY new battles/mission,
especially that i already have plenty of ideas for plotlines myself.
please contact me.

- as maybe some of you noticed, our Wing's homepage is inactive.
nothing new apeared there since retirement of COL Aeishline.
sadly i have little HTML skills (completed only IIC/1 course
and we all know that even if i'd complete all three it wouldnt
mean i know much about HTML). so i'd like you all to consider
if you'd be interested in taking care of our homesite.
i guess we could work on the site we already have, since i have
the password somewhere. if you're interested in maintaining the
site, contact me. i'm waiting with my arm open (hell! that phrase
will keep them from mailing me :/).

- congratulations to CPT Keller for flying over 500 missions in
his career! congrats also to me for flying over 1500 missions!

- Commendations of Loyality - awards given on Grand Admiral's
birthday to most loyal, dedicated and devoted EH members will
be awarded shorthly. three reccomendations from the Wing went
to Proton. maybe he picked any f them and forwarded it to
GA Ronin. we'll see. congratulations to honoured ones who
will get them.

- in about two weeks the Imperial Storm Wargame will start.
it'll certainly be a juicy event! or ship against all SubGroups!
muahahahah! of course they dont stand a chance. from what i know
Sovereign has to reach the Aurora and SGs will make attempts to
stop us. this competition wont be weekly, so you wont have to
fly much for that one. but await orders to lauch if we encounter
our opponents. i'll inform you as soon as orders come to me.

- it's not regarding Wing, but i'll put this news in this section
because i know you're more likely to read it then if it was in
Ship or TIE Corps news (at this moment 80% of readers close this
mail ;) ). there is a very nice competition held by Training
Office. it's called "Apostasy Competition". it's regarding
fiction and graphics, so if you have any skills in that you
should give it a try! i know some of you dont have so much time
to click on the link to that competition and read the details,
so i'll paste them here. i think that this competition is worth
some effort. not every day you get a chance to win Iron Star -
Platinium Ribbon!!!
Graphics:

Graphics Event Alpha: The Dark Brotherhood’s rebellion had recurring shockwaves over every sphere of the Emperor’s Hammer, regardless of SubGroup; create a collage to depict the resulting events in two or more SubGroups of the Emperor’s Hammer. Submissions should;

Be no larger than 800 by 600 pixels.
Include events related to two EH SubGroups.
Be submitted with an accompanying textural explanation of the events (including which SubGroup each relates to).

Create an image of the New Imperial City; the image can be in the conventional depiction of the skyline or a more diverse representation (basic City layouts etc.). Submissions should;

Be no larger than 1280 by 1024 pixels.
Be submitted with an accompanying textural explanation of the scene submitted (names of buildings featured etc.).
Graphics Event Gamma: The Imperial Fleet was mobilised to stem any further uprisings and guard against opportunistic incursions into Emperor’s Hammer Territory – such a collection of Star Destroyers and their escorts is undeniably a frightening yet truly impressive display of Imperial power. Create an image of the Imperial Fleet in space, or above one of the many Emperor’s Hammer-held Planets. Submissions should;

Be no larger than 1280 by 1024 pixels.
Include at least one Imperial Star Destroyer (ISD) but are not limited to any maximum number of included craft.
Include a small caption of the image (“Star Destroyers in Orbit of Aurora” etc.).
Graphics Event Delta: The events of the Dark Brotherhood rebellion and the reactions of all those within the Emperor’s Hammer Territories will be immortalised as a lesson and warning for others on the Archives of the Imperial Academy; create a title banner/graphic for the “Apostasy” competition. Submissions should;

Be of a standard banner size (approximately 400 by 70 pixels).
Include the text “Apostasy”.
Graphics Event Epsilon: The Imperial regime has used propaganda as a valuable tool of the state for decades; create a humorous image relating to any area of the Emperor’s Hammer. Submissions should;

Be no larger than 800 by 600 pixels.
Be funny.

Fiction:

Fictional Events

Fiction Event Alpha: The Grand Admiral was in his Office onboard the SSSD Sovereign reviewing reports from Imperial Governors. The Executive Officer was in transit on a Lambda-Class Shuttle, frustrated at the time it was taking to reach his destination. The Flight Officer was on the Bridge of the SSSD Sovereign, overseeing live-fire drills. The Training Officer had just reached the PLT Daedalus to “inspect” the new Cadets. Create a piece of fiction detailing where you were at the moment you heard about the Dark Brotherhood rebellion and how you reacted. Submissions should;

Be no longer than 5,000 words.
Be based on the experience of a principle character – your character.
Fiction Event Beta: As the Grand Admiral was made aware of the Dark Brotherhood situation he began provisions to quell the rebellion and secure the Emperor’s Hammer from outward enemies. The Imperial Fleets were mobilised, the TIE Corps was put into a state of alert, the Hammer’s Fist was dispatched to planetary duties and orders were dispatched to every SubGroup Commander. Create a fiction based on the reaction of the Grand Admiral, the orders he dispatched and the affect they had on one or more SubGroup. Submissions should;

Be creative.
Include the reaction in at least one SubGroup – this can include individual reactions of principle characters.
Be no longer than 3,500 words.
Fiction Event Gamma: The dark deception and compelling scenes of the nature of conspiratory action and the reactions thereof in the play Julius Caesar (William Shakespeare) are infamous. Adopt at least two scenes from Julius Caesar (http://the-tech.mit.edu/Shakespeare/julius_caesar/) to feature prominent characters in the recent Dark Brotherhood rebellion. Submissions should;

Be very creative.
Adopt all characters in the selected scenes to be Emperor’s Hammer canon.
Adapt the Shakespearian language to be pertinent to our audience (this can involve completely rewriting the various lines and soliloquies or merely modifying them to be relevant).
Fiction Event Delta: A free event whereby members should create a piece of original fiction that is in some manner related to the recent events in the Emperor’s Hammer. Submissions should;

Be no longer than 5,000 words.
Fiction Event Epsilon: A free event whereby members should create a piece of poetry that is in some manner related to the recent events in the Emperor’s Hammer. Submissions should;

Be no longer than 1,500 words.
Fiction Event Zeta: Many Officers of the Emperor’s Hammer have addressed a wide audience on the subject of the Dark Brotherhood and the wider implications to the EH in recent times; create a speech that could be given by a Command Officer to all the members of the Emperor’s Hammer on a matter you consider to be of some importance in these times. Submissions should;

Be no longer than 2,500 words.

i guess you should give it a try. not all of us have GFX skills
(i dont), but i think everyone could try writing something.
give it a chance! for each even ISes are awarded!
the competition ends 12th of September at 11:59pm BST (6:59pm EST).
submissions go to TO. be sure to notify which events is the
entry for. take a shot and good luck!
of course our competition vs Wing IV is more important ;)

Virus warning
09:31 - FA Marcin Szydlowski [tac@emperorshammer.org]
If you have been receiving a lot of emails recently with "returned mail" in topic, then you can be infected with W32/Sobig-F virus. I have been infected myself, so if you have received any emails from pbmike@klub.chip.pl, ingore them and delete them right away (I never send from this addy).

I have visited Sophos website and they have simple cure. Download their latest patch and run C:\SOPHTEMP\RESOLVE.COM -DF=SOBIG.DAT -NOC (unzip patch to SOPHTEMP directory on C:. (win9x).

To find out more, visit their website.

Open Commodore Positions
09:21 - HA Priyum Patel [spellfire@btinternet.com]
Vice Admiral Jahan Kalar has decided to retire as Commodore of the ISD Relentless. As with former ImmCOM, COL RogueWing, Kalar was a fine Flag Office who's presence will be missed.

This means that applications are now being accepted for two Commodore positions in the Battlegroups (Immortal & Relentless). Applicants should be able to meet the following requirements:

Good online presence - e-mail, MBs, and some IRC (particularly meetings if possible)
No HCI convictions within the past 12 months
A successful command history in the TIE Corps (to include a tour of at least two months as a Wing Commander or six consecutive
months as a Squadron Commander with two different Squadrons)
Ability to work with the entire Chain of Command
Excellent working knowledge of all EH & TC protocols and policies (including the Fleet Standing Orders)
Specific long and short term goals for your ship, Battlegroup and constructive contribution towards the TIE Corps as a whole
Technical skills (HTML, mission design etc) are beneficial but not mandatory
You may include up to two references, at least one from a current or former superior (obtain permission from these individuals first. No, you can't ask me or Krax). As a Commodore, it will be your task to look out for your ship's long term welfare including it's growth and activity. You will be required to work with the Wing Commander on an almost daily business handling ship affairs. A good COM can mean the difference between the ship's success or failure and is not a job to be entered into lightly.

Applications should be sent to High Admiral Priyum and Admiral Krax Tarnisar before Tuesday 2nd September and should have the subject "Rel/Imm COM Application".

'Apostasy' Competition
09:16 - AD Keldorn Cochrane [gmf@kweeky.net]
