Wing XV Report # 0 (2000-10-29)

This report was submitted by LC Ender mBind

<salute>

From once, from behind my actual desk in my office onboard the Vanguard, i present you the next Wing XV report, which is a long one....

1.
It is my sad duty to announce the closing of Scorpion Squadron in Wing XV. :(

As a result LCM Solor Werwax and LC Dafner Gelak have been transferred to Mantis Squadron, which needed reinforcements too... I didn't want to go through all of this again with Mantis a short while further on the line. Mantis has now 5 extra citations and is with 7 pilots well out of way of trouble and on to better activity. I hope these new pilots will get a warm welcome to Mantis, they might still be a bit down on account of Scorpion.

CPT Archon has been appointed as the new CMDR of Echo Squadron. Even though Scorpions fate has been unfortunate, CPT Archon has always been a good and active (flying) CMDR and he's well qualified for the Echo position - I hope I'll hear more from that squadron from now on as well:)

Most of you might have seen this coming and I tried to get everyone involved (also the other candidates for the Echo CMDR position) into the decision making - so I doubt any of the following will come as much of a surprise. Do contact me if you have a problem with the arrangements made, we tried to make them as convenient as possible to all but I hope you can accept that the closing of a Squadron is never easy and not everything involved is pleasant.

The end result is that all active squadrons in Wing XV will be back up to at least 6 active pilots, which gives us and each squadron on its own a better chance in upcoming competitions and which might also up general activity. Another goal achieved is that the least amount of people get put down a position and that the open Echo CMDR position gets filled by someone who is familiar with the wing and has proved to us that he is qualified for the job. Echo has been very silent lately, I hope he can boost that up.

Maybe at some time in the future our wing numbers go up again (maybe our Propaganda Office starts paying off real good) I hope I'll be able to reopen it... but for now I think we'll have to concentrate on keeping our current squadrons running. We believe that after this re-assignment is over all squadrons and the wing as a whole will stand a better chance at that.

2.
We've been "Best Tailors in the ASF" for a month now and in that month SA Kawolski has added the uniforms to the database... So I thought we should at least go partly in with the act and make our uniforms a bit more stylish.
For this I created a new wing collar (blue with gold trims and gold "XV") to replace the boring gray with red lettering and I've added a Ship's Medallion like the ISD Intrepid and SSD Avenger have.

Because I don't want you all to have to go and remake your uniforms, I'll be making all the uniforms in the wing. I'm doing this to help you, so if you have no interest or if you want to add the new additions yourself, tell me and I'll get you the components and/or I'll just refrain from making your uniform  You're not required to use the components or the uniform I send  you. (not having to do one saves me the work too;) ).

I've already finished Python's uniforms so all you Python pilots will find your uniforms attached to this report in two formats: the original size and the database size. You can just upload it to the TC database and presto.

The other squadrons can expect their uniforms in their mailbox over the next week. To show you what the new components look like I've attached CM Jourdain's database sized (small) uniform, I hope the Commander doesn't mind:)

3.
The Second week of the ASF Vengeance Competition October has just started! All three ships will encourage as many of their pilots as they can to participate in the October XWA and XvT WoWs. At the conclusion of both the WoWs, the ship that has the highest overall pilot score would be the winner. And will gain the right to modify the title and motto of the losing ship/wing. Besides this there will be medals for pilots and WC's Own's to be rewarded to Squadrons again of course.
The XvT Portion has been flown with most of our Wings points coming directly from the efforts of MAJ Ace Armageddon and LT Pavz from Hornet Squadron, great work guys... I hope you get more help in the XWA part of the Competition - XWA is our game of course :)

4.
Secondly Vice Admiral Blade and me have been working on a comp via this wing report involving fiction and mission flying based on that fiction and on to an interactive story including our own newspaper cuttings etc... Current name is the '"Vanguard Interactive Battle".
This week LCM Werwax and CM CTXclr (from wing XIV!!) signed up to work on mission creation. But if you think you can reinforce this team of XWA Mission Designers, don't hesitate to contact us. We also still need Mission Testers and perhaps graphics and literary artists to add to the experience. If you feel you want to participate in setting this up, mail me, CCíng VA Blade and your CMDR with your offer on what you'd like to do.

Operation Dark Hammer.
Starts: Monday September 18th
Ends: after about 10 turns, 1 turn = 3 days
URL: http://www.redrival.com/demios/op.html
Participants: the whole ASF
Description: “War game between the ASF and the Goliath Fleet in which the ASF is represented by Wing XIII and Vanguard Squadrons Mantis, Hornet & Python and the Goliath Fleet by Wing XIV and Vanguard Squadrons Scorpion, Echo & Raptor. As you can see: for Dark Hammer the Vanguard is split up over the two teams - May  the best team (Goliath ;)) win. ”
CURRENT STATUS: the location of the majority of the ASF Fleet is known, yet the Goliath Fleet remains hidden. Battles have been flown, with devastating effects on both sides. Normal play will continue now until the next engagement arrives, which might be very soon - keep your eye on emails from BGCOM Priyum.

ASF Vengeance Competition October

Participants: The whole Aggressor Strike Fleet
Description: “All three ships will encourage as many of their pilots as they can to participate in the October XWA and XvT WoWs.
At the conclusion of the WoW, the ship that has the highest overall pilot score would be the winner. And will gain the right to modify the title and motto of the losing ship/wing. at the end of the XvT WoW the wing ranking in points within the EH will be determined. For first place a wing gets 1 point, 2 for second, 3 for third place. The same is then done after the XWA wow. Both scores are added to each other and the ship with the lowest amount of points is the overall winner.
For the top 3 _rated_ scoring pilots on any of the three ships in both games there will be medals to be gained. (10 games min to get a rating)” I'll make the top scoring squadron Wing's Own for November and VA Blade made last top scoring pilot COM's Protector - he might do that again."
CURRENT STATUS: the XWA wow has started and the XvT wow has finished! Go to the URL above to see specifics and to check the scores of last week.  Remember that you fly for the club EH and not for the Vanguard. In wow’s you can't fly vs. other EH members – so don't start flying vs WingXIII or WingXIV members, they can be your wing men though. Note: you need to be signed up with BSC and with the EH on there to participate.

Vanguard Interactive Battle (new)
Starts: unknown (probably next week or the one after that, soon anyway... i'm aching to get this off on it's feet :) )
Ends: unknown
URL: non yet
Participants: All pilots onboard the Vanguard
Description: “In short, I'll be adding a piece of a story to my wing reports, together with a XWA mission/skirmish file based on that part of the story. Pilots in the wing would then have to send in their pilot files of that mission together with their weekly report to their CMDRs - preferably with a short written _fictional_ account of their actions in the mission. The CMDRs check the pilot files, forward the scores and their own files to me and you and include the fiction in their weekly reports. The best fiction would then again be taken up in the wing report. Flying and fiction would both again influence the story. Medals would be awarded to the best flying and to the best writing.”
CURRENT STATUS: A lot further then last week... Two mission designers, LCM Werwax and CM CTXclr have stated that they'd like to help. Expect a related site to be up soon.
We still do need:
- any more XWA mission creators able to deliver a single mission a week together with LCM Werwax and the rest of the team.
- XWA mission testers able to test the mission for major faults within a few days.
- Graphics artists to add some atmosphere to the story and news.

Wing Squadron Fiction:

PYTHON SQUADRON: a Story.
written by: CM Rothmans (akke42@aol.com)
edited for general publication.

"What special beam weapon CMDR??" asked a dumbfounded Tierce.

"Nothing important" I replied.
I sat back in my seat, pulled back on the throttle, and waited for Echo to launch.

A deafening roar washed over my comm unit
"What in the hell.....?"
"Damn!!!!!!!!!"

I heard someone scream for mercy over the comlink, and I asked he others what had happened.
"What the hell happened Ender" I asked

"By the moons of BtGeux, Lipit has been vaped......but how???"

"DAMN YOU REBELS!!!" I heard a maddened DS say.

"Rothmans, take Echo squad, they're with you now" said Ender.

Echo squadron, what was left of it, flew over to join Python. We now had a full squad, he first full squad I had ever Commanded. This could be risky, but I had some great pilots.
"Ender, how did they get Lipit?' I asked

"Long range torp." he replied.

Damn, I thought to myself, this cruiser is gonna give us hell. It only had 36 fighters, which is half of what a Star Destroyer can hold, but we were low in numbers, down to 36.

"This is CMDR Rothmans, all Squadrons prepare to engage."
I jammed the throttle forward, and power washed over me, soothing my worries.

Stay tuned till next week to see what happens in this exciting battle!

And to finish up:
