Wing III News Headlines
-----------------------------------

- Kind of a slow week for all of us here in good ol' W3 ... I think it's just that time of year. But I've been around long enough to know that December comes in slow and goes out exciting! A lot of us will be on break or vacation to celebrate the holidays soon, and with all that free time, I'm expecting you all to participate in the W3 Christmas Bash! More on that below in the orders section.

- The Sovereign Squadron League quarter finals have ended, and some more squadrons will be eliminated from competition as soon as the scores are compiled! So stay tuned everyone who placed a bet, because we will have some updated news soon!

- Hey Squadron has been participating in a competition with Ranger Squad of the ISD Immortal, which will be ending later today. ISMs will be awarded to everyone who flew in the winning squad! Of course, I'm sure that Hey will be the winners of those ISMs ;-)
I'll report the final standings in the next report.

- Here are the final results of the Beth vs. Hey competition :

Beth Squadron
7364 - LCM Cal Sinis
7047 - LT Joran Dax
6514 - LC Sequoh Marden
5897 - LCM Loor
5281 - LCM Shield
191 - CPT Werdna Elbee

6420.6 - Average points

Hey Squadron
1. LCM Seth Rommel - 5750
2. LT Josh Popelka - 4551
3. LT Tvan'Oris - 4170
4. LT Dan Jenkins - 2210

Average = 3336.2

Beth Squadron wins this round, with a higher average score of about 6500k! Nice work, guys. Cal Sinis and Joran Dax were each awarded the ISM for having the two highest scores in the competition, and LCM Seth Rommel was awarded a Hey Squad Golden TIE for having the highest score from Hey.

- The Beth Mineracing competition was called off on account of lack of participation. Strangely enough, this comes after Seq announced early in the race the scores for the only two pilots to fly so far ... Sequoh himself and I. Well Seq, I guess they knew they could never beat us, and they just gave up ... ;-)

- MAJ Daniel Kamprath has scheduled a Daleth Squad internal competition to begin on Dec. 16th! Stay tuned, more news on this as it becomes available.

- Recently, I began a paper that I have dubbed, "The Sovereign Research Project". Details follow :

I'll cut right to the chase ... what I would like to do is to compile a historical document about the creation and the service to date of the SSSD Sovereign and the 'Triad' support platforms. I've noticed that we have lots of numbers and stats about the great ship (courtesy of the Sov homepage and the EH Fleet Manual), but I have yet to ever discover the story behind the creation of the Sov, and the individual officers who were involved, both fictionally and in RL.
What I have in mind is a kind of written documentary that details the life of the mightiest weapon currently in use by the EH. I'd like to mix actual facts with just a bit of creative license (read : very little), and create a document that's equally interesting for the people who already know the story, all the way down to Sub-Lieutenants that have just stepped onto the ship for the first time. With the help of some of the people getting this e-mail, I know we can make that a reality.
I have in mind a project that would proceed in 4 steps :

Phase 1 : Gather Info. Obtain information on EVERYTHING about the Sov from ANYONE who feels like sending it in.

Phase 2 : Verify, step one. Compile the info and have it officially approved, perhaps by the creators of the Fleet Manual. It may even be necessary to have the info verified by the GA himself, if it comes to that. I don't want to print anything that contradicts anything else, or causes someone to think to themself, "Wait ... that isn't right".

Phase 3 : The Drafting Process. This is the real 'meat' of the project, where the history is typed up and polished. Most likely the longest phase, and also the most enjoyable ;-)

Phase 4 : Verification, step two. After a final draft is complete, it will need to be read and verified to become 'official'. I am unsure, but this may again need to pass through the office of the GA.

I am trying to get the project off the ground right now, which puts me squarely in phase 1 ... and that's where you can be the most help!
You should know that one of the major reasons I want to do this is because I don't have much info on the Sov, other than what the websites say, which isn't much. So, I need a huge flood of info to turn up in my inbox. YOU can help in two ways.
First, if you have any info about the Sov, anything at all, feel free to send it my way. Don't worry if you can't remember the source you got it from, or if it seems obscure or unmeaningful ... remember, everything will be verified for authenticity. Just send that info in! And it can be anything. ANYTHING. The name of your old squad CMDR. Perhaps a former Commodore's name (I'd love to try to interview some of those guys). Maybe you're even aware of some of the major pieces of the puzzle, such as who originally had the idea to use a Sov class SSD as the EH's new flag ship. Maybe you can remember when the Avenger was still the flagship. Basically, anything you want to send in WILL be used, if it passes verification by the higher-ups.
Second ... here's the step that can be done by everyone. Be sure to pass on this call for info! You never know who might have a piece of the puzzle floating around in their brain or on their hard drive, so try to distribute this e-mail among other pilots as widely as possible.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated, and all who contribute data or assistance WILL be credited.

So ... that's the idea, and hopefully, this is what I will be working on for the next several weeks. Is this a great idea or a fool's errand? Remember, I'd love to have your feedback.

I've already got some great facts from confirmed sources such as the EH Fleet Manual, the online Star Wars technical commentaries at TheForce.Net, the EH "Imperium" page, a few of the old newsletters, not to mention several 'sourcebooks'. It's hardly surprising that the Sov has had a very interesting life, and I'm very much looking forward to setting it all down on (virtual) paper. I'll keep you all posted.

Wing III Orders
-----------------------

- First off : Go vote for the SSSD Sovereign as the best ship in the EH!!! Use this URL to go enter the voting booth, and remember to beware of punch cards and pregnant / hanging chads : http://www.ehnet.org

- The 'Place your Bets' competition continues, with more news on the way as soon as the quarter final results are announced : http://www.imperialacademy.org/compdetails.asp?ID=244

- THE WING III CHRISTMAS BASH!!!

Ah, it's that time of year again! Christmas carols play over the Sov's PA system, the Rebels are easier to shoot down because they're even more intoxicated on EggNog than usual, and Frank's handing out candy canes BEFORE he beats people senseless. It must be the holidays! And we're gonna celebrate with a Wing-wide comp that lasts all month! You should have PLENTY of time to participate in at LEAST one division (hint, hint).
The Christmas Bash will pit each W3 squad against the others. Certain activites will gain your squad a certain amount of points, and the squad with the most points at the end of the competition wins. Simple, right? Here are the catagories :

FLIGHT
------------
This one is very simple. Starting right now, each FCHG point earned is worth one point for your squad in the Christmas Bash. Flying 5 free missions will gain 5 points for your squad, etc etc.

FICTION
-------------
Creating a good piece of fiction is considerably harder than flying missions, and is worth more points. Each fiction submission must be at LEAST 300+ words, and MUST contain a plot that involves 1) The Emperor's Hammer (Preferrably Wing III), and 2) Christmas. Remember, you are not limited to the traditional story form of fiction. Feel free to write a haiku, poem, parody, etc etc. Each piece of fiction that meets these requirements will get your squad 30 points, which means you can get as much points as you would by flying 30 different missions.

INTERNET SCAVANGER HUNT
-----------------------------------------------
This is a new catagory that I think you guys will have fun with. Below you will find a list ... you must search for these items on the internet, then send me an e-mail in which you give a URL where the items can be found. Submissions will be judged according to SPEED and QUALITY ... you may get it in first, but if you send in URLs for a bunch of thumbnail picks, you probably won't win. Without further delay, here are the items to be searching for :

Picture of Santa Claus / Father Christmas (1-5 pts.)
Tech readout on an Eclipse class Super Star Destroyer (1-5 pts.)
Lyrics for a Christmas Carol (1-5 pts.)
A screen shot from the Star Wars Christmas Special (1-10 pts.)
A track listing of "Christmas in the Stars : The Star Wars Christmas Album" (1-10 pts.)
Lyrics for a Christmas Carol parody that somehow involves Star Wars (1-20 pts.)

Bonus Item :
Picture of eight tiny reindeer pulling an ISD
or
Picture of Santa Claus punching C-3P0 in the face (1-30 pts.) -- Hint : Be creative ...

Find as many of the above as you can! You do not need to find them all for a submission ... however, the more you find, the more points you score. Remember to DOUBLE CHECK each of your URLs before you send them in. I should be able to click on them and be brought right to the item you were searching for. Good luck!

MISSION CREATION
-------------------------------
The last and toughest catagory is also the one where you can earn the most points for your squadron. Your objective is simple : create a Free Mission that involves both 1)The Emperor's Hammer (preferrably Wing III), and 2) Christmas. Be creative with the storyline! Perhaps Santa's transport has been disabled by Rebel scum before he could deliver all of this years holiday booze to the Sovereign ... remember, seriousness is not required. Making a holiday free mission will get 60 points for your squadron, which is the equivilent of flying 60 missions or writing two pieces of fiction.

AWARDS
---------------
It's the holidays, and I'm feeling generous. But don't get too comfortable, you'll still have to participate and win to get any medals. Here is how the awards will work :
The squadron with the most points at the end of the competition is the overall winning squad. Each member of the squad WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE COMPETITION will recieve an Imperial Security Medal.
The pilot who earns the most FCHG points in December is the winner of the Flight catagory, and will be awarded a Palpatine's Crescent.
The fiction will be judged by a panel of Sov personnel. The winner will recieve a PC.
The pilot with the most points in the Scavanger Hunt will be awarded a PC.
Any missions created will be flown by me, and (possibly) a smaller panel of Sov personnel (I'd like to get the winner announced before 2001). The mission that is judged to be the most original and fun will earn a PC for it's creator.

Send all of your submissions to me, and DO NOT FORGET to CC your CMDR as well. CMDRs, BSF pilot files as you normally would, I will keep track of FCHG points via Tactical Office confirmation e-mails.
The deadline is December 28th, which should give everyone PLENTY of time to participate in at least one area of the competition. But I highly encourage you to be active in several areas!!!
So, that's just about everything you need to know! Remember, it's every squad for themself! And keep in mind that, even if your squad wins the over-all competition, you will NOT get a medal unless you participated in some way ...

(*Sas looks at the clock*)
It's official ... I've been typing this thing forever!

Wing III Quote of the Week
--------------------------------
"Oh, and don't mind that "Now your soul is mine" sign on the door, a drunk man put it there." -- CM Jaster Sadista explains the strange new addition to the Aleth briefing room

Other notable quotes ... will be listed in the next report.

Misc.
---------

- Yikes. If you've managed to read this far, I salute you.

- This week's discussion topic : So, what DO you get a wookie for Christmas if he already has a comb?

- Participate in the Christmas Bash and help your squad be crowned the "Wing III Christmas Kings (and Queens)!"

That's it, I'm done for now. I don't think my keyboard can take much more anyway (the smoke rising from between the buttons can't be good sign). Fly high and watch your six!!!
