Wing III Report # 0 (2000-11-26)

This report was submitted by GN Sasquatch

Frank looked entirely too pleased.
The furry little psychopathic ewok had become very familar with his new role as "WC Assistant" over the past week, and now he seemed to have a new trophy. He walked into General Sasquatch's office with a confident stride, and casually tossed a long piece of metal on the desk.
Intrigued, Sas examined the lump of metal, and looked up to see that one of his numerous Assault Hamsters (TM) had climbed onto his desk as well. This particular fellow had a small camera strapped on his back. The hamster saluted in that odd way that only a hamster can, and then it attached the camera to the desk viewer and began to show the recently recorded footage of Frank's activites.
It was pretty standard fare, at first ... mostly footage of Frank terrorizing the pilots of Wing III. One particularly interesting scene showed Frank dodging as someone fired proton torpedoes at him. Then the view changed to an empty hallway ... eventually, a probe droid floated into view, whistling and beeping quietly. Upon closer inspection, Sas noticed that it was Snippy, the personal probe droid of MAJ Proton, Wing V's wing commander.
"Well well well ... it seems that someone has taken an interest in you guys," Sas said to Frank and his smaller partner.
Suddenly, the scene on the desk viewer changed into chaos. Frank appeared out of no where, and jumped on the back of Snippy the probe droid. A brief struggle ensued ... Snippy managed to break free and escape, but not before Frank had snapped off one of his metal legs. Sas noticed that the lump of metal that Frank had tossed on his desk was, in fact, Snippy's missing leg.
"Well done Frank ... well done, Hamster #2645," said Sas. He picked up the metal leg, and handed it to the small hamster ... at once, four more hamsters appeared on the desk to help carry the leg.
"Make sure that this leg finds its' way back to MAJ Proton. And be sure that you are not seen while delivering it. Somehow, I doubt that anyone in Wing V will be happy to see you."

Wing III News Headlines
------------------------------------

- The big news this week is the resignation of AD Sarriss from the position of Flight Officer. The good Admiral listed minor RL health problems as one of her reasons for departure. I think we can all agree that Sarriss did an outstanding job during her time as TCCOM! Sarriss' CA, AD Theodore, has been appointed to step in and become the new Flight Officer. Congrats, AD Theodore, we are sure that you will do an excellent job.

- CMDRs, take note : It's that time again! The end of the month draws close, and that can only mean one thing ... MSEs!!! Remember, your squad's MSE is due on the last day of the month, which would be Thursday.

- Tired of standing in line at the mall? Don't know what to get your relatives for Christmas? Looking for a gift for that special someone? Well, the EH Imperial Store is there for YOU! Be sure to stop by EH.ORG and click on the link entitled, "Imperial Store". Inside, you will find tee shirts, coffee mugs, mouse pads, etc., all with the stylish and distinguished EH logo! Makes a great gift, and a terriffic conversation piece. Remember, proceeds go to the EH, and who among you doesn't want to own an EH tee shirt???

- Aleth Squadron has a Combat Readiness Test scheduled to begin tomorrow, which will last until Dec. 3rd. Aleth CMDR Jaster Sadista has apparently finished his system for challenging a TIE squadron (although he isn't giving away any details), and plans to challenge a Wing II squad as soon as the CRT is over ... assuming that an acceptable CRR is achieved ...

- Frank the psychopathic kung-fu ewok was recently spotted terrorizing the Wing III IRC meeting on Saturday! Assault Hamsters are still investigating the evidence that this "Frank sighting" was actually a hoax by Werdna Elbee ...

- Attention, participants in the "Place your Bets" competition! Here's the latest from GN Wolly :

Mem Squadron - 115.805 (2/4 entries)
Theta Squadron - 99.451 (1/6 entries)

Thanks a bunch for your participation and time!

The Quarter Finals will start at November 26th! 16 squadrons, top eight will
continue, lowest eight will be out! Laserless scoring will be in effect,
"Florida ruling" not. Details will be announced on Sunday, November 26th.

So, four squadrons have now been eliminated ... tough luck for anyone who bet on Psi, Kaph, Mem, or Theta. Stay tuned for more details as they become available!
(WC's note : Psi ... what happened?!)

- After transferring back to Aleth Squadron, LCM Yun's activity has been quite high! In fact, Yun started a run-on e-mail story that is still going strong, having been added to by several Aleth pilots already. Nice work, guys ... keep up the good work!

- Hey Squadron is scheduled to challenge Ranger Squadron in an all out grudge match which will last from Nov. 29th to Dec. 6th! FREE-XWA #22 will be flown, and the top four scores from each squad will be added together to compute the final score for each squadron. Good luck Hey, and be sure to do your best to uphold the honor of Wing III and the Sov!

- Over the last few months, I have noticed that general activity in the wing has increased nicely. As a result, I would very much like to engage in another wing vs. wing competition sometime in the future. In order to do this, I want each squad to have AT LEAST CRR Level 3 or better, to qualify for wing vs. wing activites. Perhaps we can challenge the Immortal again, and actually give them some competition this time >:)

- Unofficial results for the Hey Squadron FCHG Competition :

1. LT Josh Popelka - 29
2. LT Tvan'Oris - 18
3. LT Renee D'Anclaude - 5
4. LT Dan Jenkins - 1

Congratulations to LT Josh Popelka, who will recieve the Golden TIE for his efforts.

- Remember, Wing III IRC meetings are at 1:00pm EST in room #wing_iii on UnderNet! I understand there was quite a turnout for the meeting yesterday, although the deadbeat WC failed to show up >:\

- New Hey Squadron message board : http://relentless.stardestroyer.org/cgi-bin/board/forums.cgi?forum=9

- The Beth MineRacing competition has seen a disappointing turn-out, consisting of only Seq and myself ... and my time doesn't even officially count! ALL Beth pilots (yes, even you, Werdna) are encouraged to fly the mission before tomorrow (if possible) and try to earn that ISM!

- Beth CMDR Sequoh Marden reports that a new Combat Readiness Test is probably in Beth's immediate future. All Beth pilots, prepare for a drill!

- Daleth CMDR Daniel Kamprath has promised a new Daleth competition to take place in December! Details forthcoming.

- The Beth vs. Hey competition will end tomorrow, and here are the current standings :

Beth Squadron:
7047 - LT Joran Dax

Wing III Orders
----------------------

- The "Place your Bets" competition continues, and it will not end until the Sov SL does (obviously). Stay tuned!

- Wing III Christmas Bash is right on schedule and will begin on December 1st. You may expect an e-mail on that day which will outline all aspects of the competition. The tentative deadline (subject to change) is December 21st, shortly before Christmas itself. Get pumped!

Wing III Quote of the Week
----------------------------------------
"He's gonna go nuts ... Couldn't Sas have you executed or something for eating his assistant?" -- LT Josh Popelka warns everyone against the unwise decision of trying to eat Frank

Other notable quotes this week :

"(Osan'gar ... hits Frank with a bottle of beer) Oh no, what have I done, I've wasted some beer!" -- CM Osan'gar, at the W3 IRC meeting

"Due to the upcoming holiday, I will be on a leave to visit with family starting immediately and lasting until tomorrow night. And Sasquatch, if I hear one more "The Turkey's going on leave" joke, you'll be Pit Diving with Joe." -- FA Kramer takes a short leave, but not before issuing a warning. How did he know???

"Looks like we've a new pet to play with straight from End...*without any warning Frank, the Psychopathic Kung-Fu Ewok, jumps on Sequoh's head, hits him a few times and jumps away again* The next night you hear crys of pain coming out of the CMDR's quarter, but then everything is quiet again and you decide to participate in the next comp. that your poor CMDR doesn't have to cry all night..." -- It's difficult being a CMDR, as LC Sequoh Marden shows us here ...

"Sasquatch is deluded, as usual." -- WC/MAJ Proton, during the latest Wing V report. How did he know???

" 'Tis all for this week. Keep up the activity, or Frank will come visit you late at night!" -- CM Jaster Sadista ends the latest Aleth report on a spooky note

"I won't lie to you...I'm not sure if I'm going to play! Basically, I really, really, really, really HATE mine missions so I'm not too interested." -- CPT Werdna Elbee is brutally honest about the Beth MineRacing competition

Misc.
--------

- WC's Editorial : The opinions expressed within are not neccessarily shared by the pilots of Wing III or by anyone else on the Sov ... but they COULD be!

As I'm sure everyone knows by now, LucasArts has decided to cancel "Dark Forces III : Obi-Wan" for the PC. Instead, we can now only hope that the game will be released for a 'next generation console', most likely PlayStation 2 or the Nintendo GameCube (yes, that's actually its' name ... "GameCube"). Let's just add this to the list of dumb ideas that have come out of LucasArts lately.
I'll admit that I was unsure if "Obi-wan" would be a good game anyway, simply because LucasArts has failed to make a decent Episode One game so far. With the exceptions of "X-Wing : Alliance" and "Escape from Monkey Island", when was the last time LucasArts even released a good game, anyway? Surely, I was not the only person who groaned in agony when LEC announced their games currently in production, and the list included such sure-fire stinkers as "Star Wars : Demolition" and "Super Bombad Racing".
But "Dark Forces II" was very good, and so we all held our breath and hoped that "Obi-wan" would live up to its' potential. But now, LucasArts has announced that they won't even release the game for the PC! Why??? Let's face it ... LucasArts has NOT had any great success at their attempts to create console-only games. Anyone remember the incredibly horrible "Masters of Teras Kasi" for the PSX? LucasArts needs to forget about consoles and return to where they used to do the best : PC gaming.
LucasArts was a shining jewel in the crown of computer gaming for so long, that it is actually painful for us, the fans and game players, to sit back and watch the company fall off into obscurity and ruin. But that's exactly what has happened to such one-time-giants as Sierra, and it looks like LucasArts is trying to follow the same path. The decision to cancel "Obi-wan" for the PC is just one of many signs lately, and they all point to the same thing. All good things must come to an end, and the reign of LucasArts has, unfortunately, ended.

Okay, I'm finished. Agree? Disagree? Be sure to e-mail me, and hey, remember to CC your squad mates. Discussion is good for the soul ;-)

- This week's discussion topic : Wookies -- What good ARE they, anyway?

Okay, that wraps it up for this week! As always, be sure to fly high and watch your six!
