Wing III News Headlines
------------------------------------

- Of course, the big news in the wing right now is the surprise resignation of CM Den Darkhill, former CMDR of Gimel. Due to increasing RL pressures, a personal feeling of lack of respect, and some mis-reported scores for the last Wing III competition, Darkhill sent in his letter of resignation and was assigned to the TC Reserves within a matter of hours, leaving Gimel without a leader. Right now, appointing a new CMDR for Gimel takes priority on my list of things-to-do. I've already recieved A LOT of applications from pilots who want the job (including one guy in another wing who doesn't even own XWA), and I also have Darkhill's recommendation for his successor. Stay tuned, I want to have a new Gimel CMDR in place by Wedneday AT THE LATEST.

- Corrected results and medals for the Wing III competition will be announced shortly. Former CMDR Den Darkhill still has all the info.

- Daleth has recently suffered some heavy losses of personnel. No less than FOUR pilots were declared absent without leave and were removed from active duty. This will help Daleth, because it has gotten rid of some pilots who were just taking up space, making room for new recruits ...

- However, it has also hurt us. Not only has it dropped our Wing total to 35 pilots, but we no longer have each squadron 75% manned, which means that Hey Squad currently cannot be re-opened. My apologies to LCM Lavos, who will (eventually) be stepping up to take command of Hey. He has already been working and recruiting for his new squad, and I believe he has even created the Hey webpage! But Daleth must be re-populated before Hey can be opened. Have patience Lavos ... all in good time.

- XWA League CR#3 has concluded, and results are forthcoming! We had strong showings from Beth and Daleth Squadrons ... excellent work, gentlemen! Official results for CR#3 will be passed out just as soon as I'm made aware of them.

- The upcoming Wing III competition using 'off-line' Project : Faithful rules is forthcoming! With each passing day, the comp becomes more and more of a reality. I have recently been in contact with MAJ Badlands, who will be working with us to adapt his 'Unfaithful' rule set for Wing III. Stay tuned!

- Also on the P:F front, Beth Squadron has started up a new squadron competition using their OWN off-line rules! The rules they have come up with are heavily mathmatic, very thorough, and pretty darn impressive, in my opinion. Great work by CPT Sequoh Marden for spear-heading this project! Here is a brief sample of the rule set that Sequoh came up with ... if you want more info, I'm sure he will be happy to help you :

=======================

General setup:
Every person in Beth (except for me - I'm gamemastering) will be placed on a random starting position within a square universe consisting of 8x8 planets. So there will be 10 players. Every player will start on a rich planet (generating two times the resources a normal planet does) with a shipyard and a battle team of his choice (2200 points). Of course not all points have to be used - you could also keep them.

General procedure:
One turn is 3 RL days - that should give everyone enough time to talk, fight and handle in orders. If you think it should be shorter/longer, mail me. Every third day at about 6pm GMT, the gamemaster (me, Seth - not you! ;) will evaluate all orders he has recieved and inform everyone of new events and stuff.

Orders:
Usual orders should be move, attack and build, but everything is possible here - just explain what your fleet and your planets are going to do. That could be transfering some RUs to your allied partner's account or even transfering control of your star destroyers to him - the rules should just be guidelines.

Attack:
When fleets of players who haven't met before are together in one area they (usually) won't start to fight at once. The normal way would be to begin negotiations via Hypercom (email). Perhaps an alliance or some sort of treaty can be created? But negotiations can fail, of course and then a fight is unavoidable....

Combat engagements:
Combat is handled quite easy. ;) The basic rule is that the one with the higher fighting value wins the engagement and the other player looses his complete fleet, but to make it more realistic the winner's fleet looses the fighting value the enemy fleet had before the battle. Which ships are damaged or even lost is completely the gamemasters choice, but also has to do with the tactics the two playes were using (specified in their orders)
Example: Cray's fleet (1 ISD, 6 GUNs with 6 Adv. Torpedoes each - Fighting value: 3500 + 240 + 2160 = 5900) attacks Seth's fleet (1 VSD, 1 INT, 12 T/Ds - Fighting value: 1800 + 1200 + 1800 = 4800) So, Cray will win the battle and Seth's complete fleet will be lost (if he didn't order it to retreat at a certain point). Cray's fleet's total fighting value after the battle is 1100 (5900 - 4800). The gamemaster sais that all his GUNs (with their costy adv. torps.) have been eleminated by Seth's T/Ds before they were killed by the ISD, which has still been damaged badly and is now at 1100 points.

======================

- Excellent work this week by LCM Cray Mikalen, who I now deem as the 'Beth Squadron Tailor'! Cray recently created dress uniforms and flight suits for EVERY member of his squad, and was awarded a much-deserved PC for his trouble. Great work, Cray!

- New e-mail address for Beth Squadron's LT Emperor's Shield : mambridge56@hotmail.com

- Both Wing III MedCorps positions are open!! This just in from SMS 'Doc' Inkwolf :

The position of Ship's Doctor for Wing III is now open for whoever would like to apply to fill it.

The duties include:
- Improving morale in the wing.
- Writing to welcome new members to the wing.
- Acting as a confidant, assistant, moral support and advisor to any wing member who asks your help.

The Wing Doctor should keep a current, updated mailing list of everybody in the wing, and (optionally), arrange for a Wing III MedLab website.

The ideal candidate should be quick to answer E-Mail and frequently available, get along with people easily, have a sense of humor, have time to attend to the necessary tasks, and have a genuine interest in helping people. Dedication, respect for your fellow pilots, and responsibility are musts.

All interested pilots should contact SMS Inkwolf at : inkwolf@earthlink.net

Keep in mind that the Nurse position is open as well!

- In my last wing report, I said that Gimel Squadron's LT Gamma RED had transferred out of the wing, which is NOT true, because he is still here! ;-)
Sorry about that Gamma, I must have gotten some wires crossed somewhere.

- All Gimel pilots, remember that all pilot files you have should be submitted directly to me until you have a new CMDR.

- The recent Beth Squad graphics competition has ended! Congratulations to LT Loor, who won an ISM for his excellent work designing a uniform patch for Beth! You will find Loor's winning patch attached.

- All the members of Wing III that participate in the Sovereign TIE League (all three of you ;-) might be interested to know that the next combat run will not be announced until July 1st.

- I am putting out a call for original XWA missions and battles!!! If you have recently created a new mission for XWA, send it to me! The Wing III Top Gun award was established with the understanding that coming up with new missions to fly would not be a problem. Realistically, there are not currently enough XWA Free missions out there right now to continue the competition unless I recieve some new missions from YOU, the pilots of W3.

- Beth Squad ICQ numbers announced :

CPT Sequoh Marden - #43927552
LT Loor - #6679684
LT Yodabot - TBA
LCM Cray Mikalen - #59511060
CM Werdna Elbee - #60188917
LT Mandeep - #65507866
LCM Cal Sinis - #63376474
LT Merrik Stele - TBA
LCM Var Zoraan - #53015807
LT Seth Rommel - #25428764
LT Emperors Shield - TBA

Wing III Orders
----------------------

- PRIMARY ORDERS : Fly FREE-XWA #12, 'ESC Plunderer', for the competition we are in against the ISD Immortal!!! The deadline is June 17th, this Saturday, so we don't have much time left!!! If you have flown this mission before, then I encourage you to fly it again and try for a higher score ... but at the very least, re-submit your old pilot file. Gimel pilots, make your submissions directly to me. Right now I only have pilot files for LCM Pete Mitchell and LCM Lavos. Let's get flying!!!

- XWA League CR#4 ... stay tuned. As far as I know, it has not been announced yet.

- Wing III Re-orientation Project : Remember that the current 'phase' ends on June 17th, and the assignment is to create some kind of Wing III decoration for our flightsuits. So far, I have no submissions, even with the promise of a PC to the winner ...

- RECRUIT!!! Now more than ever!!! E-mail cadets, bug your RL friends, hang up flyers at the gym, hire an airplane to sky-write "JOIN WING 3" accoss the sky, etc etc etc ... use your imagination, and get the word out! More pilots will not only help to make the wing a more fun place to be, but they will also give us a MUCH better chance in competitions.

Wing III Quote of the Week
----------------------------------------
"This has been a VERY interesting week for all of us, hasn't it?" -- LCM Lavos, stating the obvious ;-)

Other notable quotes this week :

"So before I do any more damage to Gimel I've decided to resign my commission as an Imperial officer." -- Former Gimel CMDR Den Darkhill, moments before retirement

"... None of us were expecting this to happen now. We don't have time to explore his motives. For right now let's just do what we have to do." -- LCM Treb Helfest as he consoles and motivates Gimel

"Timbal, you're nuts!" -- Line from fiction by Wing VI's LC 'Darth' Joe ... these words are often spoken by COM/FA Kramer as HE states the obvious

"Needed a super computer for that one, didn't you?" -- LT Seth Rommel, guessing at the equipment that would be needed to calculate the size of LCM Herman's ego

"I can't be expected to know everything (well, yes I can)!" -- LCM Herman provides evidence for the last quote

"I don't think Lavos would fit in a toaster ..." -- LT Seth, during a 'toast'

"... But that doesn't stop me [from] HAVING FUN, which this is all about!" -- LCM Herman with some words of wisdom to remember

Misc.
---------

Alright, time for an experiment! As anyone should know, being in the TC is about 1) Having fun and 2) Meeting people. And if you're not communicating with your fellow pilots, you are denying yourself some of the fun you SHOULD be having! We have lots of fun during the IRC meetings, but not everyone can attend, and those who don't are left out, with very little communication from other squads in the wing. SO, in a attempt to jump-start intra-wing communications, and to help us all get to know each other better, I am starting a Wing III e-mail chain, which will go something like this :

1) The chain will start in the inbox of CM Jahan Kalar, because he is at the top of the Wing III rosters. I will send it to him. He will add his name, rank, position, and one quick fact about himself.

2) After this is accomplished, he will forward the chain (as a forward, NOT as an attachment) to the person just below him on the Wing III roster, which would be SL Mynock. Mynock will answer the questions, then pass it on the next pilot (LT Scoser), etc etc etc, until the chain is sent to LCM Van in Daleth Squad (currently the last pilot on our rosters).

3) The last pilot who fills out the info will send the chain back to me, and results will be published and printed on the Wing III homepage.

4) The fact you list about yourself can be anything! A medal you have, a competition you have won, your favorite food, anything at all that will help everybody else to get to know you better!

5) This will take about 5 minutes of your time, max. If the chain dies, I WILL track down who had it last, and I WILL stare at you and force you to explain why you killed the chain and ruined it for all the guys below you who never got a chance to pass it on.

6) Like I said, this is an EASY assignment that will only take about 5 minutes of your time, and it's designed to be FUN to do, while helping us all get to know each other better. I'm still new here, there are still pilots that I don't know anything about, and I want to change that. I want this assignment to be completed within the week, so results will be published in the next Wing III report.

7) Don't know who to send the chain to next? Go to the Wing III rosters, find yourself, and send it to the pilot JUST BELOW you.

Wing III Rosters : http://www.tiecorps.org/rosters/view.asp?wing=3

8) Remember ... seriousness in the fact about yourself is not necessarily required ;-)

So watch your inbox, and let's all do our part to make this a success!!!

Okay, that just about does it for this week. Until next time, fly high and watch your six!
