Wing XV Report # 0 (2000-11-14)

This report was submitted by LC Ender mBind

<salute>

Well... *cough* late... I bring you the Wing XV report, sorry bout that.:\

1.
The Vanguard Interactive Battle is postponed because the mission hasn't been made yet, which is also why this report is late I'm afraid (had everything ready to go and hoped the mission would get finished by today... but no:\). One of our mission designers, CPT CTXclr, has been transferred to the reserves... he did get me a half made mission I'll send on to the other mission creators and I'll get on that xwa mission creation course ASAP, so we might get it out by next sunday... but as you might comprehend out of this: We need XWA mission designers bad! If you have any skills in this field please contact me.

For everybody I'd like to suggest you to go to http://vib.ehnet.org to check it out. I suggest you read the rules through now so if you have any suggestions, comments or questions, they can still be solved before the "competition" starts. The site includes "The Vanguard", our fictional ship newspaper. I need people to get out a single Vanguard a week in newspaper style (black/white) with there in "fictionalized" newspaper articles on at least what happens in the ViB and onboard the ship and fleet (promo's etc.). The idea is to get the Vanguard into the EH Newsletter and to mail it weekly to the wing. If you think this will be fun, email me (cc VA Blade) that you're interested. (also if you want to do graphics or a flash intro or something like that, don't hesitate to contact us)

2.
In a surprise upset, the Goliaths snatched away victory from the ASFs in the very last battle. This battle was held on Saturday night, and had a decent turn-out. Extended over at least 3 hours, the battle lasted for 5 waves. Before the BAttle Goliath was way behind on points and craft.
The first wave of Goliath was crushed by superior forces of Missile Boats and TIE Defenders. The next wave of Goliath fighters mostly existed of Y/Wings and Assault Transports.... up against 36 TIE Defenders. By some miracle we swiped the T/Ds away, which turned the battle stakes considerably. In the next 3 waves Goliath Y/Wings and transports continued to strip the ASF of it's expensive top of the line SFS Space Superiority Fighters, surprising the Goliath pilots as much as the ASF ones I must say.
Ofcourse the Goliath took heavy fighter losses itself too, but in wave 5 suddenly the ISD II Goliath, escorted by a VSD and a CRL, found themselves opposed vs. the ISD Vanguard and ISD Greywolf, supported by two VSDs, a Dreadnought and a Interdictor.... with the difference that the ISD Goliath still had heavy bomber squadrons (Gunboats), transports and TIEs to launch. I must say it was a weird feeling to blast away the Vanguard with my HRs (funny enough the Grey Wolf gave some sort of enjoyment I must say), but after I  made us all homeless pilots... the battle was over.
The Goliaths, undoubtedly the underdogs, had pulled off an impressive win, and secured victory by completing all their goals, despite the fact that the ASF team had twice as many points as the Gols.. I'm still mightily impressed by the tactics used by VA Pel to secure this victory.
Many congratulations to VA Cyric, VA Pel, VA Blade, LC Chrusos Ichthys, COL Raith, LC Hizad & BGCOM Priyum on an operation well fought. Many thanks to all those who attended the numerous battles and helped to run the op. Those who didn't attend missed quite some fun:)

3.
Ok, I and several other Vanguard (and even non-Vanguard) pilots have already hung around #Vanguard... our proposed wing IRC channel. For the moment it's ofcourse unregistered, making us lose it everyday and also making it not a very likely place to meet anyone. For registering a channel you need about 10 ppl frequenting your channel for about a month - so i'd like request everyone here to idle or chat in #Vanguard if they are on IRC anyway. Before we get it registered, every Vanguard member will be allowed ops. After registration all CMDRs will get access with an honorary ops for each month's COM's Protector. A Vanguard bot would be nice ofcourse, preferably with bar and competition score keeping functions *dreams on...*

As a result, because I want to get our channel registered I hereby announce our first Wing meeting on #Vanguard, on the Undernet (IRC), on Saturday the 18th of November just after the EH meeting. This will be just a casual meeting so don't stress if you can't make it. The most important thing is just to get over 10 ppl there so we can get our registered channel:) (hey I'll bake cookies and host some MP mission flying on my t1 connection or something... it'll be fun:) )

4.
With us not losing the ASF:VC, we might as well get a new and better wing motto and title. Any good suggestions for either will be rewarded with an ISM, for both a PC... As an idea I'd like to add that a motto should be seen as a battlecry... I prefer  short and brutal over long and intelligent i'm afraid. No-one runs into battle screaming something like "Why fly like the Gray Wolf when you can sit around looking good?". A lead would be to check out the many meanings of Vanguard/Avant Guarde/...
With us participating in comps that might modify the title and motto I'd like to add that a good new title and motto will be used for every month we don't lose the ASF:VC in:) (so we won't change motto+title in another after we have to change it but will return to the old one)

Fleet News:

General TC News:
- With Colonel Raith recently stepping down as Commander of Wing XIV, applications are now being accepted for a new WC. Check for the requirements on the TC news page. Applications must be sent to Admiral Priyum and Vice Admiral Pel by this Saturday (18th November) and a decision will be made the following Monday. If you wish, you may include up to TWO references in your application. Please put WC application as the subject of the email.
- If you are interested in the position of COOA please send AD Zsinj an application to slookabill@home.com. Look for the requirements on the tc page. This new COOA will deal with awarding the LoC's for WoW and possibily the DFC's.
- SSS Results for the quality portion of the graphics phase are in. Here are the current top 3 squads: Inferno - 13.0 Thunder - 13.0 - Ranger - 12.0. No Wing XV applications I'm afraid.
- Applications are now being accepted for the position of Command Attache to the Training Officer. The person who gets this position will most likely be the next TO, so there's no real need to go over what the requirements are. Applications should be mailed to the Training Officer with the subject "CA:TO Application". Outline why you think you should get the job. Applications which include recommendations or references will be deleted. There is no set closing date for applications.

- OPERATION: DARK HAMMER HAS A VICTOR! In a surprise upset, the Goliaths snatched away victory from the ASFs in the very last battle. This battle was held on Saturday night, and had a decent turn-out. Extended over at least 3 hours, the battle lasted for 5 waves.

Competitions:

Operation Dark Hammer.
Starts: Mon September 18th
Ended: Sat November 11th
URL: http://www.redrival.com/demios/op.html and http://asf.ehnet.org/op_forces.html (new!)
Participants: the whole ASF
Description: “War game between the ASF and the Goliath Fleet in which the ASF is represented by Wing XIII and Vanguard Squadrons Mantis, Hornet & Python and the Goliath Fleet by Wing XIV and Vanguard Squadrons Scorpion, Echo & Raptor. As you can see: for Dark Hammer the Vanguard is split up over the two teams - May  the best team (Goliath ;)) win. ”
CURRENT STATUS: This Operation has been won by Goliath.
- Battle of Daltar:  The ASF team went into the battle with the Starfighter and points advantage... and crushed the Goliath first wave... but took considerable losses themselves. Things then started going from bad to worse, as the ASF lost the next wave, then the and the next. Things finally came to a head in the fifth and final wave, where things would be decided. Both teams had their last remaining ships placed in this wave, including both flagships, the ISDs Grey Wolf and Goliath. The mighty ASF Flagship eventually fell to Goliath guns.... and the battle was over. The Goliaths, undoubtedly the underdogs, had pulled off an impressive win, and secured victory by completing all their goals, despite the fact that the ASF team had twice as many points as the Gols.
- to finish up: In relation to this, BGCOM will be awarding some medals to those people whom without, the Operation could never have been carried out. Also, I have created a Dark Hammer specific battle ribbon for people who took part to place on their uniforms. Once this has been approved by the Operations Office, it will be released.

ASF Vengeance Competition November
Starts: 02:00 PM, Fri November 17
Ends: 02:00 PM, Fri December 01
URL for XWA scores: http://www.battlestats.com/games/xwa/war/info/?wow100
URL for XvT scores: http://www.battlestats.com/games/xvt/war/info/?wow099
Participants: The whole Aggressor Strike Fleet
Description: “All three wings will encourage as many of their pilots as they can to participate in the November XWA and XvT WoWs.
At the conclusion of the WoW, the wing that has the highest overall pilot score would be the winner. And will gain the right to modify the title and motto of the losing wing. At the end of the XvT WoW the wing ranking in points within the EH will be determined. For first place a wing gets 1 point, 2 for second, 3 for third place. The same is then done after the XWA wow. Both scores are added to each other and the ship with the lowest amount of points is the overall winner.
For the top 3 _rated_ scoring pilots on any of the three wing in both games there will be medals to be gained. (10 games min to get a rating)” I'll make the top scoring squadron Wing's Own for December and VA Blade made last  two top scoring pilots COM's Protector - he might do that again."
CURRENT STATUS: under negotiation.... but we must be quick i see... pff a month passes in a blink

Vanguard Interactive Battle (postponed)
Starts: Sun November 19th 2000 (week onwards)
Ends: hopefully never, but every 3 weeks (=turn) medals and other scores will be awarded
URL: http://vib.ehnet.org (new!)
Participants: All pilots onboard the Vanguard
Description: “The Wing XV Commander will add a piece of a story to his wing reports, together with a XWA Mission based on that part of the story. Participating Pilots in the wing send in their pilot files of that mission to their CMDRs - including a short written fictional account of their experiences in the mission. The CMDRs check the pilot files, forward the scores, the reports and their own files to the Commodore and Wing Commander and include the best fiction of their squadron in their weekly reports. The best fiction in the wing will be taken up in the wing report, arranged into "propaganda"-type news coverage. Medals are awarded to the best flying and to the best writing but also to outstanding activity like helping to run this competition.
Flying and fiction both influence the story, and so the missions: the Pilots' performance in one mission has consequences on the next mission they'll fly. Making this a true Interactive Battle with a flexible story line, centered around the ISD Vanguard and it's Squadrons.”
CURRENT STATUS:  Delayed. Mission creation has proved to be a problem... Anyone who has any experience in mission creation pleeease get in touch. The web site and Rules are up though. Go to the URL above to check them out. I suggest you read the rules through now so if you have any suggestions, comments or questions, they can still be solved before the "competition" starts:
- (!) I need (a team of) editors for "The Vanguard", our fictional ship newspaper. You'll need to get out a single Vanguard a week in newspaper-style (black/white) with there in "fictionalized" newspaper articles on at least what happens in the ViB and onboard the ship and fleet (promo's etc.). but it would be cool to add all types of other stuff for just amusement as well. We don't expect a huge newspaper of lots of pages, just a short excerpt... a bit like the sample on http://vib.ehnet.org/news/ but just a bit bigger. The idea is to get the Vanguard into the EH Newsletter and to mail it weekly to the wing, so we'll be requesting a bit of quality - it might be going out to the whole fleet -, but you'll have a lot of freedom intact (mesa believe in freedom of press;) ). If you think this will be fun, email me (cc VA Blade) that you're interested.
- as for the Vanguard, as for the stories: we still need graphics artists to liven up the atmosphere, if you think your stuff is good enough (we be easy on this one) email me (cc VA Blade) that you're interested and what you could do.
- I would be cool to have Flash intro's for the ViB (and PO) site(s), if anyone can create these at any reasonable quality, they'll be heavily rewarded (neither VA Blade or me could do any better anyway so...;) )

ASF:SCII (new!)
Starts: 28th Nov 2000
Ends:  23rd Dec 2000 (might be subject to change)
URL: http://asf.ehnet.org (new!)
Participants: All pilots and Squadrons and Ships in the ASF.
Description: “The long awaited Second ASF:Supremacy Competition is here! The first Supremacy competition began on 17th April, and ran for six weeks, ending on 28th May. Up for grabs were the titles of ASF Flagship and ASF Escort Squadron. The six weeks saw an amazing amount of activity for all pilots. Thousands of missions were flown and scores of graphics, fiction and INPRs were submitted. At the end of the competition, well over a hundred merit medals had been awarded to the various participants. The competition had proven to be a success, and shown that the ASF was capable of amazing achievements. This Competition runs just the same way, with a slight change in the awarding of points.”
Additional: Go to the site and check it out, besides that it looks good it also has a lot of info on how to get all the rewards on offer here. With the ViB running at the  same time, I hope we'll be seeing a lot of graphics and fiction from you guys anyway, plus extra missions made by the mission designers. Also: if you fly any missions now, you might want to wait with reporting them, so we can get more citation and FCHG points in the comp... but I didn't say that ofcourse;)

Many of you know Tuomo from the GE and I have no doubts that Hornet will benefit from him being here. This week MAJ Ace would like everyone to try and be in an online comp, if you can't do this then just do a mission. But make sure it's a TC battle not a FREE battle, so Hornet can get citation credit.

PYTHON SQUADRON: Interdiction.

Wing Squadron Fiction:

PYTHON SQUADRON: a Story.
written by: CM Rothmans (akke42@aol.com)

"Fix the Communications hub now!!!!!!!" Blade said.

In space, things were looking good for the Wing.

I was circling around the battlefield, instructing my squadron on what to do. All of the NR fighters had been destroyed, and we were just going around protecting the Vanguard.
"This is CMDR Rothmans of Python Squadron." I said "Any EH ships in the sector plesae assist."

"CMDR Rothmans, this is Captain Rand al' Thor of the Modified Frigate Rage.
We are coming to assist"

"Roger Thor, get here soon. The Vanguard is crippled"

Repair crew and tugs had launched from the Vanguard's hangar. They had sealed the front end of the Deuce.

Just then, the M/FRG came out of hyperspace behind the Vanguard. It started launching large construciton ships, and once they got to the front end of the Vanguard, they started launching crew members. They were building a repair platform with the help of the Vanguard repair crew.

In a few hours, the front end of the Vanguard was in good enough shape that they could go to hyperspace and get to te nearest EH repair platform.

"This is CMDR Rothmans, all Wing XV ships, return to the Vanguard. Let's go home." said Rothmans with a smile on his face.
