Wing III News Headlines
------------------------------------

- Congratulations to all of our newly-promoted! Even though we didn't get much accomplished this week from all the celebration that was going on (and all the alcohol that was consumed), it was still great to see some fine officers get the recognition they deserve and an increase of rank. My personal congratulations goes out to LCM's Cal Sinis, Treb Helfast, Lavos, Pete Mitchell, Herman, and Jan Schneider!

- I have stopped taking applications for the position of Hey Squadron CMDR. Several good officers have applied, and I will be making my decision very soon. You can expect to see Hey return to active duty within the next few days.

- Wing III multi-catagory competition upcoming!!! This will not just be another competition, it will be an event! Competition will take place in many catagories, such as TIE Flight, Graphics, Fiction, and Mission Creation. The current W3 competition ends on June 2nd, and you can expect the 'event' to begin shortly thereafter. I'm planning on running this for about a month, to give everyone plenty of time to compete in more than just one catagory. Which squadron will walk away with the most awards??? All pilots who wish to participate should be aware that awards WILL be given out!!!

- The Naval Corps continues to expand and prepare to open. After the shocking resignation of IQ Pierce, who spear-headed the 'Project : Faithful' wargaming system, a new Naval Corps Commander (NAVCOM) was announced this week ... congratulations to VA Freelancer!!!

- This recently turned up in my inbox, from VA Marc, COM of the ISD Immortal :

We challenge you, Wing III to a duel! All out shoot-out, you can pick the battle, start June 1st, end when you wish. Top total score wins the competition, other individual awards to be given out as per usual (top pilot etc... details to be worked out if you accept). What do you say Sasquatch?

So, what DO we say? Huh? I can't HEAR YOU, Wing 3!!! Shall we kick some Immortal butt this June? If we decide to take them up on the offer, the Wing III "Event" will probably have to be postponed ...

- Exercise : Imperial Storm finally came to an end this week, with Red Team winning because they had possession of the most planets. All of you armchair-generals out there should feel free to visit the ImpStorm website to read about the massive tactical blunders of Blue Team, and the brilliant strategies employed by Red team (*grumble grumble*). You'll also find some hints about the organization of ImpStorm II ...
http://www.xtc56.dial.pipex.com/ImpStorm.htm

- This just in from Senior Medical Supervisor (SMS) "Doc" Inkwolf :

After long and careful consideration, LT Jakar Streng has been chosen as the new SNS (That's short for 'Senior Nursing Supervisor -- Sas). Congratulations to him! He gets to do my boring ol' paperwork. :P And fill in when I'm playing hooky by writing long, dull letters to the Docs! :P Hope ya enjoy it, LT Streng....

- New banner created for Beth Flight Three by LCM Var Zoraan! It looks great, and you can find it attached to this report.

- Gimel Squadron website recently updated and overhauled by LCM Lavos! Den, don't forget to list Gimel's webpage URL on the TIE Corps rosters.

- Beth Squadron graphics competition currently running ... assignment is to create a Beth patch for uniforms and flight suits! One great looking submission has already been turned in by CPT Sequoh Marden, and you will find it attached for your viewing pleasure. When the competition is over Beth Squad, don't forget to submit your patch to the Operations Office! Not only will it become 'official', but it will also be posted in the EH Uniform Archive on the Ops Office website.

- New Gimel Squadron officers appointed! LCM Treb Helfast is XO; LCM Pete Mitchell is recruitment officer; and LCM Lavos has been named communications officer (responsible for maintaining the Gimel webpage).

- Daleth Squadron webpage updated by LCM Herman : http://www.daleth.co.uk

- In a surprise that shocked many pilots, WC/GN Gallows of Wing II has decided to step down from the position of WC. I had the honor of serving with this fine officer for many months, and I can honestly say that it is quite a loss for Wing II. Sadly, Gallows is now the third Wing II command officer to leave that wing in as many weeks ... the other two are VA Freelancer (now the NAVCOM) and myself.

- Combat Run #2 of the XWA League is over, and here are the results :

Excellent work by Beth Squadron, the current leaders of the competion!!! Keep up the great flying!!!

- Are your eyes bleeding yet? This report has turned out to be quite long, and I haven't even gotten to the orders yet ...

- A word about Ops in IRC ... all pilots, please remember that there are only a specific group of people who should recieve ops during the Wing III IRC meetings. Those pilots are Wing III CMDRs, the WC, and the Wing III Top Gun (see orders section for more info on that one). Please do not abuse the ops privilege by giving ops to those who shouldn't have it, or by unnecessarily kicking someone.

- A word about Sub-Lieutenants ... I have been looking through the rosters lately, and several SL's have caught my eye. Quite frankly, no squad in Wing III should have any Sub-Lieutenants unless they have JUST arrived here from the training platform. The Flight Office keeps a close watch on squads that fill up with SL's. Also, it is ridiculously easy to get promoted to Lieutenant ... all you have to do is complete a battle, or submit an INPR! CMDRs, if you have SL's in your squad who never communicate and never participate, then take whatever means you deem necessary to motivate them. Let them know that a simple show of activity will earn them a promotion. The promo to LT is the EASIEST promo there is to achieve!!! If your SL's continue to ignore you and refuse to particpate for a lenghty period of time, then don't be afraid to AWOL them to make room for the new recruits coming from the platform.

- Upon examining the rosters even further, I noticed that the Wing III website is in SERIOUS need of an overhaul ... it was last updated by WC Havoc! Anyone who has HTML experience and fresh ideas should contact me. I'm not opposed to creating a new Wing III website myself, but be warned that my HTML skills leave a little to be desired ...

- Wing III competition using the Project : Faithful wargaming system is upcoming!!! The competition is still in the planning stages, but you can look for this to happen sometime in the near future. Many good suggestions have been made concerning how to ensure fairness and how to divide the Wing into proper 'battlegroups' ... the release of the Faithful off-line rules will most likely have a big impact on how the competition is planned. Stay tuned ;-)

Wing III Combat Orders
----------------------------------

- CMDRs, great work of informing me of all the pilots who were eligable to recieve the Commendation of Bravery! As you saw in the Awards section, many pilots have recieved it ;-)

- The Wing III competition will end on June 2nd!! All pilots, be sure to fly FREE-XWA "Abaddon", created by LCM Herman. Top scorer will recieve a PC, and second place will get an ISM.

- Combat Run #3 of the XWA League has yet to be announced (at least, it hasn't been announced at the website yet). Get pumped! Let's get all of the Wing III squads in the top five!

- Wing III IRC trivia was conducted at the meeting yesterday, even though LCM EggFoo was absent. Winners for this month will (presumably) be announced soon by EggFoo, and an ISM will be awarded to the top trivia winner for May!

- Sovereign Squadron League, CR#9, is still active. Mission to fly is FREE-TIE 106, "The Courtship of Callista". Deadline is May 30th, this Tuesday!!! CMDRs, be sure to have a report for me of any pilots in your squad who participate. I'll need those results to turn in by June 1st at the latest.

- Monthly Squadron Evaluations! CMDRs, have these in to me ASAP after June 1st. Note that MSEs will help me judge which squad is Wing Commander's Own for May ... ;-)

- Wing III Top Gun Award : Announcing the new Wing III 'Top Gun' contest!!! Every month, a competion will be run here in Wing III to determine who is truly the Top Gun. A new, original XWA Free mission will be flown by the entire wing. Top scorer is the Wing III Top Gun (W3TG)!!! There are many advantages to winning this title :
1) You will recieve an ISM
2) You will be given ops in W3 IRC meetings
3) You will be given public recognition on the W3 website
4) You will be mentioned prominently in the W3 report, which means WC's from all over the Sov will be hearing about you ... this could come in handy if you have been trying to get a CMDR position or another similar job ...
5) You will recieve use of the title, which means you can add it (unofficially) to the end of your ID line : [W3TG]. Also, you will recieve all the bragging rights that come with the position ;-)

Now, the rules ...

1) The Wing III 'Top Gun' contest will be run on a monthly basis. Awards and results will be announced in the Wing III Report.
2) A new, original XWA Free mission will be used. In the event that a new mission is not created, then an existing one will be chosen.
3) The title will be given to the pilot with the highest score!!! Pilots are encouraged to fly and re-fly, and brag about high scores to their fellow pilots ...
4) The winner of the Top Gun for a certain month is automatically disqualified from competition for the next month. This will prevent any one pilot from continuously winning the award, and will promote healthy competition.

That should be all of it. If any new rules or changes are made, you'll read about it here in the Wing III reports! The very first running of the W3 Top Gun competition will begin shortly after the current Wing III competion ends on June 2nd. More details in the next report!

- Wing III re-orientation Project : Last week's segment of the 'project' was a complete and utter failure, because I didn't recieve even ONE suggestion for a new Wing III nickname or motto. So, I am going to assume that everyone is happy with our current nick and motto!
Next phase : Wing III uniform decoration for flightsuits. Standard uniforms already have collar decorations that show which wing you serve in, but the new flightsuits are more flexible. Normal arm patches are generally used by squadrons, so I'm going to let you be creative! All you have to do is create SOME kind of new decoration for our flight suits to show that a pilot is a member of Wing III. Be creative, and use your imagination (and the Force). Remember that since this will be on a flightsuit, it must be functional and not in-the-way. Also note that I have not said that you CAN'T make a patch (just in case you can't think of anything else). The pilot that comes up with the best decoration and submits a good, usable graphic that I can submit to the Operations Office will recieve a Palpatine's Crescent!!! Deadline is June 17th. Good luck to all! Let's get some better participation for this segment ...

Wing III Quote of the Week
----------------------------------------
"Holy crap!" -- CM Den Darkhill, after looking at the latest round of Psi Squadron trivia

Other notable quotes this week :
"... be warned that promotions over LCM require more than just flying." -- Words of wisdom from COM/FA Kramer

"I have finals next week and I've been doing a lot of studying this week, so if you haven't heard from me much this week, and you've been wondering 'Where the hell is Lavos?' Now ya know why!" -- LCM Lavos, explaining his recent drop in activity

"Our WC is really nice, isn't he? Now you can drink something else than Fizzy Glug... don't ask me what this is, but it is named as an antialoholic drink in the StarWars RPG :P Cheers!" -- LCM Var Zoraan discovers a new beverage that even I haven't tried ;-)

"Ahhhhh!! I can't believe it!! It's finally happened!! *Slams the keg on the ground* Here's the beer! It's on me! Congratulations to LCM Pete and LCM Treb also!! We've all done it!! CM Darkhill, COL Sasquatch, you guys are the best ;)" -- LCM Lavos, shortly after recieving his well-deserved promotion

Misc.
