STRYKER'S STORY

Lieutenant Colonel Jer Stryker and Commander Carcharoth were hanging out, as usual, in the main hangar of the ISD Vanguard, sipping some caf and watching the traffic coming into and out of the hangar.
    "Ought to be here any minute," said Jer.
    This was getting ridiculous, thought Carcharoth.  Jer's and the SFS delivery guy's wives were now even on a first-name basis.  Sure enough, right on schedule, the cargo ferry flew into the hangar and was tractored into its landing spot.
    "Ah," said Jer, as the container was opened, "just what I ordered."
    "It's..." said Carcharoth, then he became puzzled.  "It's empty."
    "Not quite," replied Jer, as he hit a small button on a keyfob remote.  The empty space inside the container appeared to distort and shimmer, and then was replaced completely by a tri-finned fighter.  "It's my new Tie Phantom, Black Magic."
    "Oo," said Carcharoth.  "Those are quite rare.  Wanna take it for a mock combat exercise?"
    "Sounds like fun," said Jer.  "Let's go."
    "Wait!" came a familiar voice from behind them.  "Can I go with you guys?"
    Jer and Carcharoth turned around, surprised to see who it was.
    "It's me!  Optimus!" said Optimus.  "You might remember me from such WSRs as "Commander for a brief period in summer 2002", "The New Hornet Logo", and "The new, Blue Hornet Logo."
    "Opti!" exclaimed Jer.  "Where ya been?"
    "I'm not sure," said Opti, "but the food was great."
    "Sure you can come," said Jer.  "Your ship is buried under a bunch of Airyu's old lobster droppings though.  It'll take a bit to dig it out.  You can take Draiff's or noWedge's Tie Interceptors though.  They aren't using them."

    Jer was getting pummeled by Carcharoth's mock concussion missiles.  "You've been practicing, Carch," he said.  "Or I'm getting rusty in my old age."
    "Probably a little of both," said Carcharoth.
    Jer was embarrassed to say the least.  The Phantom was ok as a collectible, but it just couldn't come close to his Defender.  Of course, that was to be expected.  He briefly considered trading the Phantom in for a Tie Raptor, but then began laughing uncontrollably at the thought.
    "You okay boss?" asked Optimus.
    "BWAHAHAAAAAHAHAHA---  Oh....uh yeah.  I was just thinking of the time Sickman got really drunk and thought Draiff's toothbrush was a--"
    Jer's anecdote was cut short as a priority signal came over the radio.  "Attention any Imperial forces in this system.  This is the Imperial transport Rodimus Prime.  We have tracked a freighter registered to Xizor Transport Systems, carrying illicit spice, entering the sector.  Please acknowledge."
    "We read you Prime, and are moving to intercept." replied Jer.
    The three Ties punched their engines up to full power and pursued the XTS freighter.  Unfortunately they arrived too late to do any good.
    "Well, that was certainly a waste of a plot development," said Carcharoth.
    "Definitely," said Optimus.  "What do we do now?"
    "Let's go get our freighters and smuggle some spice!" said Jer.
    "Sounds good to me," said Carcharoth.
   
   
COMMANDER'S BRIEFING

• We're in the final days of SCVII, and overall I'm very satisfied with the level of participation.  You guys really pulled through and even though it looks like we are destined to be on the losing ship yet again, Hornet has a commanding lead on the Vanguard and has been in the top 10 squadrons in the ASF for the past two weeks.  The only two people who have 0 points are Drazhar and noWedge.  I know Drazhar is waiting for some IWATS tests to be graded.  As for noWedge...

• The Return of Hornet competitions have ended.  To recap, noWedge won phase 1, Carcharoth won phases 2 and 4, and I won phases 3 and 5.  We had pretty good participation.

• Nothing much else going on till SC ends.  Once again, here's the official site with the rules, scores, etc.

• Our new message board is finally picking up steam.  Just one or two elusive pilots have not posted yet...

• I'll be on leave for the weekend, so the squadron XO, Grimlock, is in charge until Sunday.
