Athena Report # 9 (2005-04-10)

This report was submitted by COL Josh Popelka

Hey Hey! Time for another Athena Squadron Report. Got a little news to cover, so let's do it!

SQUADRON NEWS

I've just submitted a comp for review. Here are the details as I seem 'em:

Athena Squadron Tactics
Competition start date: 04/11/05
Competition end date: 04/25/05
Since Athena Squadron is assigned three different types of craft (TIE Phantoms, Spectre Advanced Missile Boats and TIE Dragons) and assigned the mission role of Pacification, tactics need to be developed for carrying out this mission. Given a list of craft encountered in a target system, the following questions should be answered:
What should the possible loadouts be for the TIE Phantoms and Spectres? What enemy craft/facilities should be attacked first and by which fighters?
For example: Enemy craft encountered in-system:
3 FAC/1s
4 CRVs
36 X-Ws
8 Sats
8 CommSats
Then outline a battle plan, listing which types of warheads the Phantoms and Spectres should be loaded with and which targets the different flights should be attacking and in which order. The winner of this comp will be given an IS-BR. I'll release a craft list sometime tomorrow, I've been a little busy today.

There were roster changes since the last report. MAJ Jonathan transferred to the Reserves and two other pilots were declared AWOL.

Hmm, that's about all the news I have right now...

WING NEWS

None that I know of right now, read Turry's next report. :)

Imperial Storm V is just around the corner. The rules are 99% done and thanks to SovCOM/VA Stele, we also have a map now. Please check out the War Office site for full details.

I am now looking for people to assist me during the war-game itself - specifically people who can make the XWA Skirmish files and TIE & XvT single player missions for the battles. The SP missions only need to be simple - no briefings or messages. If you're interested in helping out with this, please email me at spellfire@btinternet.com. Shiny things for people who help!

SQUADRON ORDERS

FLY! Fly anything! We're pilots, after all.

Participate in the Athena Squadron Tactics competition, once it is approved and I send a list of enemy craft out. I'm looking forward to participating in this one myself. Stretch my mind some.

Communicate! It's the best part of being in this club.

Take IWATS Courses! They look good on your ID Line and you learn stuff.

Have fun!

MISCELLANEOUS

This might sound odd, but sometimes I really really hate computer games. I just bought Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory a couple days ago. I'm enjoying the game, aside from a few graphical touches that I don't like (the way the camera is handled for the most part). I shelled out close to $60 for the Collector's Edition (got a nice box, tin and kinda shiny) because it included the three levels of the original Splinter Cell that were released via X-Box Live for the PC version. I installed SC on my computer this afternoon, looking forward to tying up a few loose ends in the added missions, only to find out that the installer for the new missions is broken. Won't install 'em. Hmph. Way to test your products before you ship 'em out Ubisoft!

Chaos Theory is also seriously making me consider an upgrade for my PC too. Great, I just get the thing working well and now I have to risk getting another processor that will die shortly after I install it... sigh

Well, I think that about covers everything for this week.

Thanks,

Colonel Josh Popelka
