STRYKER'S STORY
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....  

    Lieutenant Colonel Jer Stryker sat in his office, shaking his head as he sifted through the scores of the Supremacy Competition.  Even though Hornet was making a decent showing compared to the rest of the squads on the Vanguard, that was nothing compared to how well other squadrons in the battlegroup were making out.  He was just about to go chew out his squadron out when the intercom in his office beeped at him.
    "Lieutenant Colonel Stryker," said the communications officer, "I have an incoming transmission for you from Sienar Fleet Systems.  Patching it through now."
    "Greetings and congratulations, Mr. Stryker!" said the recorded voice.  "For spending over ten thousand credits on your SFS Gold Card this year, you were automatically entered into our grand prize drawing, and you have won!  Your prize will be delivered to you tomorrow."
   
The next day:
    The cargo ferry landed in the ISD Vanguard's main hangar, and then Jer and Jori Carcharoth watched as the SFS guys opened the container.  Jer gasped, and then started hyperventalating.
    "It's...it's...it's..." Jer couldn't even finish the sentence.
    "It's a Tie Defender, you lucky bastard," said Jori dryly.
    Jer composed himself, but could do nothing to stop the saliva pouring down his uniform.  As he worked with his teeth to get the shrink wrap off of his new toy, he went on,  "Not just a Tie Defender, a Tie Defender Mark II.  It's even more maneuverable than the original, and has all the latest technology on board."
    "Don't let noWedge see it," said Jori.  "He hates new technology."
    "Meh," said Jer.  "I haven't seen noWedge in weeks anyway.  That clunky old Interceptor of his probably broke down in the middle of the Kuat system again."
    Jer finally got all the shrinkwrap off and climbed into the cockpit.  "Let's see what this baby can do."

   
COMMANDER'S BRIEFING

• Ok, time to be a mean, order-barking squadron commander.  I must say I'm very disappointed in this squadron's SC activity so far.  I even have No Contact from several of you this week, and that hasn't happened in a while.  It takes no time at all to do most of this stuff.  I'm submitting my Stryker's Stories for fiction.  They don't have to be long or anything.  We are a team, and while this is a game, it's a competition too.  To those of you who play sports:  You don't abandon your team mates during an important game because it's "just a game" do you?  This should be no different, just because you don't actually know the people you're letting down in person.  SC is one rare time of year where the stuff you do in the Tie Corps really counts for a lot and you're measured up against all the other squads in the battlegroup.  There are two more weeks left of SCVII.  I expect a dramatic turnaround.

• In other news, Justin has left his spot as the Vanguard Commodore.  No, I don't want the job.  :P

• Speaking of jobs, Captain Grimlock has just stepped up and become Hornet's Executive Officer.  Expect to hear more from our new XO in the coming weeks.  Congratulations!

• In Free Worlds this week, I was lucky enough to become one of the few privileged enough to fly a Tie Defender Mk II.  Unfortunately it got away from me in the Territorial Engagement yesterday (which we won) and I crashed into the planet Bastion before I even got to kill anyone with my new toy.

• There is one day left for Phases 3 and 4 of the Return to Hornet competition.  So far I'm the only one who's participated in these two, but they only take a couple minutes, so there's still a chance for those medals.  If you happen to take the IWATS tomorrow, send me an email so I'll know to wait till the grades come in.

• I've extended Phase 5 (the CR race) to next Friday February 4, due to the SCVII multiplayer ladders and the XWA Week of War going on this week.  Currently I lead Draiff 23-22 in this race.  However, with all the MP stuff happening this week, it's still anybody's game.
